Names of lambs for registration should be your flock prefix name followed by a name beginning with the relevant year letter. Year Letter for Lambs born in: 2008: K 2009: L 2010: N 2011: P Ram names should be limited to a maximum of 18 characters - incorrect or overlong names will be rejected. 1) All entries must be submitted on the printed forms of the Society issued annually from the Office. All particulars required on the form must be given in full and duly certified by the breeder. The registrant must be the breeder of the sheep and a paid up member of the Society. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the correct registration fee. 2) Registrations of sheep can only be accepted on the understanding that the applicant agrees to the inspection of their flock if it is considered necessary by the Council, and that they agree to abide by the decision of the Council as to the eligibility of their animals for registration. Expenses for such inspections shall be paid by the applicant. 3) No animal shall be eligible for registration unless it be: i) the offspring of a Sire and a Dam registered in the Flock Book. ii) the offspring of a ram registered in the Flock Book of Australia or New Zealand with a three generation pedigree lodged at the Society Office. The Dam must also be registered in the Society Flock Book. 4) No animal is eligible for registration unless its Sire is: i) home bred ii) purchased at a Society approved Sale iii)purchased privately from a member of the Society iv) borrowed or hired from a member of the Society v) the donor of semen imported from Australia or New Zealand and is compliant with 3ii) above. No sheep is eligible for sale as a Registered Ryeland Sheep unless it conforms fully with the requirements of Section 3) above and is accompanied by a completed Pedigree Certificate signed by the breeder. All sheep registered from January 2006 will have Pedigree Certificates issued and endorsed the the Society. 5) Registration of all lambs to be in the hands of the Secretary before 31st August of the year following birth. Registrations received after August 31st will not appear in the next flock book. Registration is open to all qualifying sheep up to August 31st of the year following their birth and they will be included in the next available flock book. Cont’d over 5 6) All registered animals shall be tagged or tattooed by the owner in accordance with the Society’s requirements. These tags must follow the format of Flock Number, together with the Year Letter and individual number eg: 917/G4. Ewe and ram lambs must not be tagged with the same individual number. 7) No ram or ewe shall be offered at any sale held under the auspices of the Society or be eligible for entry into the Flock Book unless conforming to the above requirements. 8) The Council reserves the right to decline any registration. Rules for Sheep entered in Ryeland and Coloured Ryeland Classes at Shows 1) All sheep, including lambs, must be registered with the Ryeland Flock Book Society 2) The Show Rules as laid down by various Show Societies must be adhered to. 3) Lambs must be born after January 1st. 6 Ryeland Sheep - Breed Characteristics All pedigree animals must be white throughout. Head. Medium length, masculine in rams, head with no trace of horn and face showing char- acter, strength and constitution. Face. Medium length, dull white in colour, relatively free of wool, dark skin around the nose, nostrils not contracted. White hair on dark skin around eye; eye bright and clear of wool. Ears. Medium size, carried slightly back (not heavy or hanging down), dark colour - either brown shade with white hair (sometimes spotted with black) or covered with short white wool. Neck. Strong, broad and set on so as to give the head a bridled appearance. Shoulders. Smoothly and well set, no depression behind. Chest. Broad and fairly deep. Back. Straight, level from the base of the neck to setting of tail, which should be broad. Ribs. Well sprung, body well down forming good bottom line. Legs of Mutton. Full, well let down. Good length of hind quarter from hip to dock. Legs and Feet. Dull white colour, single black spot not objected to as it is invariably a birthmark and not hereditary. Legs below knee and hock straight. Compact feet firmly set. Skin. Healthy pink colour except where otherwise stated. Flesh. Even and firm handling all over. Carriage. Smart appearance when walking or standing. Head held high. Fleece. To be good in quality, stronger in rams than in ewes, deep in staple, thickly set on skin, handling firmly, close level appearance, every part including belly and purse well cov- ered, except where otherwise stated.
