Press Release June 30, 2017 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps Team75 Bernhard and Herberth Motorsport field three Porsche 911 GT3 R Stuttgart. The KÜS Team75 Bernhard will tackle the pro-category of the 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, with a Porsche 911 GT3 R. Herberth Motor- sport fields two Porsche 911 GT3 R at the event from July 27 to 30 driven by profes- sional and amateur drivers. Inaugurated in 1924, the 24 Hours of Spa has a long tra- dition. The squad of the two-time Le Mans winner and team owner Timo Bernhard can rely on the Porsche works drivers Michael Christensen (Denmark), Kévin Estre (France) and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium). Vanthoor has a wealth of racing experience at his home circuit and won the endurance classic in 2014. One of Herbert Motorsport’s contenders will be manned by Porsche works driver Sven Müller (Germany), Porsche Young Professional Mathieu Jaminet (France) and the amateur pilots Daniel Alle- mann (Switzerland) and Ralf Bohn (Germany). An all-German driver lineup of Alfred and Robert Renauer, Jürgen Häring and Marc Lieb share driving duties in the sister car. Lieb is the reigning champion of the World Endurance Championship for Drivers, outright winner of the 2016 Le Mans 24-hour race and he climbed to the top of the podium at Spa in 2003. The 7.004-kilometre circuit of Spa-Francorchamps is known for its high centrifugal forces and legendary passages such as Eau Rouge and Blanchimont. Nestled in the hilly, forested Ardennes region of Belgium, the racetrack often experiences unusual weather conditions with frequent rain. -

Press Release 1 August 2021 Interim report 2, 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) Porsche customer team KCMG still on course for a top result Stuttgart. After an eventful night, Porsche is within striking distance of the leading pack with the 911 GT3 R fielded by the customer team KCMG at the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. The No. 47 car driven by Maxime Martin, his Belgian compatriot Laurens Vanthoor and Britain’s Nick Tandy is currently running in fifth place after 18 hours. After 370 laps on the 7.004-kilometre Grand Prix circuit, the vehicle is just one lap behind the leader. The second best nine-eleven with KCMG drivers Josh Burdon (Australia), Alexandere Imperatori (Switzerland) and Edoardo Liberati (Italy) ranks eleventh. An unfortunate caution phase around midnight cost the armada of 911 GT3 R the direct contact to the leading vehicles. This was followed by a streak of bad luck, which knocked many of the 500+PS sports cars from Weissach out of contention. At around 3am, the No. 22 entry from GPX Racing had to pit for repairs due to a steering problem. At about 5.30am, the car shared by Earl Bamber (New Zealand) and the works driver Matt Campbell (Australia) and Mathieu Jaminet (France) pulled out. Over long stretches during the night, Schnabl Engineering’s 911 GT3 R took over the role as the leading Porsche and maintained a steady pace among the top ten. Shortly before 4am, however, the car came into contact with another vehicle at the entrance to Eau Rouge, heralding an early end for Michael Christensen (Denmark), Dennis Olsen (Norway) and the French works driver Frédéric Makowiecki. -

newsroom Motorsports Oct 13, 2019 IMSA: Porsche wins all titles at the Petit Le Mans season finale The Porsche GT Team concluded the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season by winning the manufacturer, driver and team titles. At the final round of the season at Road Atlanta (USA), the two Porsche 911 RSR flying the Coca-Cola colours finished on positions five and six. Race This race marked the 50th and final factory outing for the successful GT vehicle from Stuttgart, which won six of the eleven rounds on the 2019 IMSA calendar. The Porsche works drivers Earl Bamber (New Zealand) and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) have been crowned the drivers’ champions, with the team title going to the squad campaigning the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR. In the GTD class, the Pfaff Motorsports customer team achieved a podium result with the No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 R. The ten-hour Petit Le Mans race in the US state of Georgia was distinguished by the constant lapping manoeuvres. With 34 vehicles competing on the 3.6-kilometre circuit, the order was quickly established. When the safety car was deployed for a final time shortly before the finish, the gaps shrunk. In the ensuing 25-minute sprint, Bamber battled valiantly to clinch a podium spot, but was unable to do better than fifth place in the fierce competition of the GTLM class. For the final round of the season, the New Zealander and his Belgian teammate Vanthoor shared driving duties with the Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet in the ca. 510 hp 911 RSR, which is based on the high-performance Porsche 911 GT3 RS* road-going sports car. -

Today, those Michelin tires performed well beyond that window as Porsche and BMW combined to sweep the podium at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the second stop in the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. “Our philosophy is to design our tires with a wide bandwidth of performance. The IMSA competition is extremely close, so our team partners pushed those limits on a very fast, hot and bumpy track.” said Chris Baker, Motorsports Director, Michelin North America. “We expected the track temperature to increase 10 degrees C from the race start at 10:40 a.m. to a peak between 45 and 50 degrees at mid-race and then drop 8 degrees by the finish, and the track was 28 degrees at the start, peaked at 48 degrees and then dropped back down,” said Chris Baker, director of motorsport, Michelin North America. Porsche prevails Porsche and BMW extended the use of their Michelin “cool” range tires for much of the 12 Hour race on the fast, bumpy 3.74 mile circuit to score the first “major” win for the latest generation Porsche 911 RSR. “We did all of our setup work in the night sessions and during the morning sessions based on track temps,” said Nick Tandy. -

Starting next year, Phoenix Racing and KC Motorgroup (KCMG) will be offering their services, while Absolute Racing as the series’ partner from day one continues to be on board. The two new service partners bring a wealth of racing experience to the series. Ernst Moser’s Team Phoenix Racing has won the DTM twice and the Nürburgring 24 Hours four times. The former Cup winner Marchy Lee will be integrated into the organization of Phoenix Racing Asia. Paul Ip’s KCMG company based in Hong Kong decided the LMP2 class in the Le Mans 24 Hours in its favor this year, as well as the Formula Masters China Series. Ingo Matter is the team boss of Absolute Racing – the squad that has been fielding Audi’s GT3 race cars for the cup entrants since 2012.
