Seth Rollins OUT, Survivor Series Plans Changed Seth Rollins OUT, Survivor Series plans changed. Author : Robert D. Cobb Written by The Dark Knight of Sports LaShawn Encarnacion At a recent live event, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins took a bad landing and tore his ACL. Rollins is expected to be out 6-to-9 months in recovery after surgery. So on the 25th anniversary of the day that The Undertaker made his debut to the WWE, formerly known as the World Wrestling Federation, a tournament format is set to be held at the Survivor Series to crown a NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The WWE is no stranger to tournament-style format of competition. There is the traditional tournament to crown their yearly King of the Ring. When it comes to an actual tournament for the coveted WWE World Heavyweight Championship, only ONE comes to mind ... Wrestlemania IV where the late "Macho Man" Randy Savage competed in four matches in one night to be crowned the NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion. While the format is just a rumor, it is a best guess as it already has precedence. But the competitors and favorites can be discussed, which will be done as a pre/preview. The obvious favorites are performers such as Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro, King Barrett, and the 2015 Money in the Bank winner Sheamus. United States Champion Alberto Del Rio and Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens are also in the mix of consideration as competitors, even though Owens already is planned to defend his championship against Ryback. Then again, Ryback could also be named in the tournament as well. Dolph Ziggler and the members of The Wyatt Family finish what are the obvious names to be considered for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. The "not so obvious" names that may be considered are some from the NxT roster and some who could be making returns from long absences. Names like Finn Balor (current NxT Champion), Samoa Joe, Barron Corbin, James Storm, Tyler Breeze (main roster & NxT). A few long shots but have been rumored in recent reports as possible returns include fan-favorite Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio and even rumblings of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and even Goldberg. In the end, one thing is clear. This Survivor Series is looking to be one of the most anticipated, eye-popping and without a doubt, surprising events in recent years for the WWE. Stay tuned to WWE programming and this outlet as new information will be unveiled as it comes. Honey, Master of Science Utah State University, 2020 Major Professor: Dr. Eric César Morales Program: American Studies This paper examines the shifting portrayals of Pacific Islanders in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) across three generations. As both a popular and historically racially problematic venue, WWE’s politically incorrect programming has played an underappreciated and under examined role in representing the USA. Although 4 many different groups have been portrayed by gross stereotypes in WWE, this paper uses the family of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson—the Samoan Dynasty—as a case study. The WWE originally presented Pacific Islanders using the most offensive stereotypes, and the first two generations of the Samoan Dynasty had to “play Indian” or cosign onto gross representations of their people to be recognized by American audiences unfamiliar with representations of Pacific Islanders.

  • OAESV Survivor Series Empowerment, Hope & Healing
OAESV Survivor Series Empowerment, Hope & Healing UNDERSTANDING THE TRAUMA OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE Sexual Violence is a Form of Trauma As a survivor of sexual violence, you have endured a trauma, a significant event or series of events that fall outside the range of normal, everyday human experience. All forms of sexual violence are traumatic, including rape, attempted rape, sexual abuse, molestation, voyeurism, and many others. Other familiar types of traumatic events include combat conditions, natural disasters, vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies, or witnessing one or more of these events happening to someone else. What makes a particular experience traumatic is that the survivor’s ability to control what is happening to him or her is stripped away, often violently. The survivor feels that his or her health, safety and even life are directly threatened and he/she is rendered powerless to address that threat in the moment. Such an event overwhelms the brain’s capacity to effectively respond and cope the way you would be able to in other types of situations. The extent to which a particular event is experienced as being traumatic by the survivor depends on many factors, which are unique to each person and each situation. Although you may feel out of sorts, or even that you’re “going crazy,” your reactions are normal responses to an abnormal event. Sexual Violence is Unique While the “brain impact” of sexual violence is similar to that of other types of trauma, sexual violence is unique. Unlike other types of trauma, sexual violence is a deliberate violation of your most personal space by one or more individuals that you likely knew and may have even trusted or loved.

  • Reflections on the Montréal Screwjob Wrestling
Paul Ferstl Wrestling with Narratives: Reflections on the Montréal Screwjob The so-called Montréal Screwjob (November 9, 1997) is attributed with an unparalleled effect on the development of professional wrestling. The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze this effect in the context of structuralist narratology, interpreting the Screwjob as a metalepsis in order to explain its impact on the subsequent construction and recep- tion of wrestling events. The arguably most notorious moment in professional wrestling, at least of the 1990s, is the so-called Montréal Screwjob. It took place on November 9, 1997 at the Molson Centre in Montréal, in the context of a major event of the then World Wrestling Federation: the Survivor Series. 20,000 people attended the live show, along with an international TV audience. The Screwjob is attributed with an unparalleled effect on the development of wrestling. The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the process in order to answer the following questions: Why did this incident become so famous? In which ways did it differ from traditional forms of storytelling in wrestling, and what was its impact on the subsequent construction and re- ception of wrestling events? To this end, it will first be required to give a brief introduction to the history and workings of professional wrestling and the relevant cultural and economic factors that defined wrestling in the 90s. Wrestling Wrestling has a bad reputation which according to Dalbir S. Sehmby is mainly based on five factors: “its status as low art, its historical develop- ment, its liminal existence, its spectacle of excess, and its form of hybrid media.”1 The origins of wrestling are found in popular entertainment, >...@ stemming from traveling carnivals and vaudeville-type shows.

Abstract This study used an in-depth textual analysis of the television show Survivor: Samoa to demonstrate that the unscripted characters of the program and shows like it have agency within the narrative. In addition to the 19th season of the Survivor series, the sample also included Jeff Probst’s (host and executive producer of the series) weekly blog for EntertainmentWeekly.com. Unlike most popular television narratives, the unscripted characters of Survivor: Samoa have the opportunity to tell their own story. This doctoral project was an in-depth analysis at how that authorial power was shared between the Producers of the show and the individual characters. The results of indicate there are three types of narrative agents that contributed to the storytelling process: the producers, the characters, and then a unique mix of the two.

  • Shawn Michaels
Shawn Michaels Michael Shawn Hickenbottom (born July 22, 1965), better known by his ring name Shawn Michaels, is an American professional wrestling personality, television presenter and retired professional wrestler. Currently signed to WWE, as an ambassador and trainer, since December 2010. Michaels wrestled consistently for WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), from 1988 until his first retirement in 1998. He held non- wrestling roles from 1998 to 2000 and resumed wrestling in 2002 until retiring ceremoniously in 2010. In the WWF/E, Michaels headlined major pay-per-view events between 1989 and 2010, closing the company's flagship annual event, WrestleMania, five times. He was the co-founder and original leader of the successful stable, D-Generation X. He also wrestled in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), where he founded The Midnight Rockers with Marty Jannetty in 1985. After winning the AWA Tag Team Championship twice, the team continued to the WWF as The Rockers, and had a high-profile breakup in January 1992. Within the year, Michaels would twice challenge for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship and win his first WWF Intercontinental Championship, heralding his arrival as one of the industry's premier singles stars. He won the Pro Wrestling Illustrated "Match of the Year" reader vote a record eleven times. Widely considered as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, Michaels is a four-time world champion, having held the WWF World Heavyweight Championship three times and WWE's World Heavyweight Championship once. He is also a two-time Royal Rumble winner, the first WWF Grand Slam Champion and the fourth WWF Triple Crown Champion, as well as a 2011 WWE Hall of Fame inductee.
