Further distribution or reproduction in any format is prohibited without the permission of the copyright holder. ABSTRACT Trilobites from the Ludlow and Přídolí of England and Wales are described. A total of 15 families; 36 genera and 53 species are documented herein, including a new genus and seventeen new species; fourteen of which remain under open nomenclature. Most of the trilobites in the British late Silurian are restricted to the shelf, and predominantly occur in the Elton, Bringewood, Leintwardine, and Whitcliffe groups of Wales and the Welsh Borderland. The Elton to Whitcliffe groups represent a shallowing upwards sequence overall; each is characterised by a distinct lithofacies and fauna. The trilobites and brachiopods of the Coldwell Formation of the Lake District Basin are documented, and are comparable with faunas in the Swedish Colonus Shale and the Mottled Mudstones of North Wales. Ludlow trilobite associations, containing commonly co-occurring trilobite taxa, are defined for each palaeoenvironment.

    CoP Public Infrastructure and Social Services Example of Good Practice April 2020 Aberystwyth University Bryonny Goodwin‐Hawkins [email protected] Village halls as digital hubs Living Lab Mid Wales Key words: Digital infrastructure, broadband, communities, service hubs 1. Introduction A project in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire has equipped village halls with superfast broadband to tackle the rural‐urban digital divide, and connect community spaces with new possibilities. In the UK, the rural‐urban divide in digital connectivity has been described as ‘two speed Britain’ (Farrington et al. 2015). Alongside divides in broadband provision and access, rural ‘notspots’1 leave gaps in mobile coverage. As services from health to banking go digital, tackling the two speed‐ Llanfair Kilgeddin village hall, Monmouthshire. Photo © Jaggery (cc‐by‐sa/2.0) challenge is critical. But, expanding broadband and mobile coverage would take considerable investment in 1 ‘Notspots’, describing a lack of service, is used as a term in UK rural development literature to contrast with ‘hotspots’, where services are readily available (E.g. Skerratt 2010). ROBUST receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 727988.* 1 infrastructure, which is uneconomic for private providers and far beyond local government budgets. Rural internet hubs, where local people can access high speed connections, offer smaller scale solutions (e.g. Ashmore et al. 2019, ENRD 2017). Monmouthshire’s project realised the hub idea using a community resource many rural places already have – a village hall. The project demonstrates how targeted investment in digital infrastructure can help connect communities, re‐purpose rural spaces, and create new ways to bring people together.

Image: Elsa Wood Monmouthshire Rare Plant Register 2019 MONMOUTHSHIRE VICE-COUNTY 35 RARE PLANT REGISTER This edition updates the first Rare Plant Register produced by Trevor Evans (Evans 2007). Some additional species have been included whereas others have been removed. The reasons for these changes are given below. Rare and Scarce species In the RPR by Evans (2007) there are several species which have since been found to be more widespread in vc35 than previously thought. These, Ranunculus lingua Greater Spearwort ( widely planted), Iris foetidissima Stinking Iris, Echium vulgare Viper’s Bugloss, Chrysosplenium alternifolium Alternate-leaved Golden Saxifrage, Crepis biennis Rough Hawk’s-beard, Myriophyllum spicatum Spiked Water-milfoil , Samolus valerandi Brookweed, Frangula alnus Alder Buckthorn, Poa angustifolia Narrow-leaved Meadow-grass, Puccinellia distans Reflexed Saltmarsh Grass and Populus nigra ssp.betulifolia Black Poplar are no longer included in this revised RPR as occur at more than 10 sites. Moreover, Anacamptis pryamidalis Pyramidal Orchid occurs at almost 40 sites. The revised RPR recognises locally rare species, both Natives and Archaeophyes, as those that are found in up to three sites in VC35 and locally scarce species which occur in up to 10 sites. Several have been moved from locally rare to locally scarce e.g. Anthemis cotula. Species such as Littorella uniflora Shoreweed with 11 records are therefore not included. Some other species, whilst being recorded at more than 10 sites, are considered under threat in a GB or Welsh context and therefore these have been included in this Register.

Other fields elsewhere including ones at Itton Common . 9 Llanvair Cross, Bettws Newydd, Wernreolydd, Llanbadoc and Devauden had Membership Survey . 10 some existing interest and great potential and the owners are keen to make Ida’s Meadow . 11 them more flower-rich.
