  • Screening and Brief Intervention to Reduce Occupational
Introduction Mental health is an under-recognized area in occupational health in India, although principles of occupational health and safety includes enhancement of mental well-being of workers. Tobacco and alcohol have higher prevalence rates among different occupational groups as compared to general population in India. Both lead to significant occupational harm in terms of absenteeism, injuries, sickness and lost productivity. Population Coal industry in India is one of the largest with a turnover of INR 80,000 crore (US$ 13 billion) and worker strength of approximately 3,60,000. However, regular consumption of tobacco and alcohol among workers in mining higher among occupational groups (almost 40%) increasing to almost 70% among workers with occupational injuries. In absolute terms, at least 1,10,000 workers in Indian coal mines are prone to adverse consequences of harmful substance use. Study Site & Participants Coal mine workers engaged in mining activities (skilled/semi-skilled/unskilled) ≥ 18 years of age of either sex are recruited from the Raniganj – Asansol coal mining areas of Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (ECL). During the initial phase of the study workers from Nimcha coal mine area, Satgram area and Ningha coal mine area are screened. All study procedures are community or primary care based. Objectives ASSIST screening to identify patterns of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use among coal mine workers. Brief intervention as secondary prevention among “hazardous and harmful” users. Brief intervention along with referral

  • Coalmine Methane Under Indian Mining Scenario
Coalmine Methane Under Indian Mining Scenario CMM under Indian Mining Scenario • In India coal is a reliable energy resource due to limited availability of petroleum and natural gas. • Coal based non-conventional energy is poised to play a major role in India as : 9 It would bridge the gap between demand and availability of conventional energy source 9 International trading scenario in energy sector has been stormy 9 Environmental concerns has given impetus to clean coal technologies. • Under the scenario, Coalbed Methane (CBM) and its subsets like Coal Mine Methane (CMM) and Abandoned Mine Methane (AMM) may find important place in Indian Energy scenario in coming years. CMM under Indian Mining Scenario Development of CBM in India • Out of different sub-sets of Coalbed Methane (CBM), CBM from the deep lying coal deposits (VCBM) has been pursued. • So far 16 Coalbed Methane (VCBM) blocks have been allotted under CBM policy of GoI covering an area of 7807 sq. km and prognosticated CBM resource of 825 BCM. • 10 more blocks have been opened for global bidding. • Several core wells/pilot wells have been drilled in the allotted blocks and are giving encouraging results. • Few operators are planning commercial production from 2007- 08. • The total production potentiality in the allotted blocks is 23 MMSCMD, which is about 10% of the existing Natural Gas demand. CMM under Indian Mining Scenario Coal Mine Methane and Abandoned Mine Methane • Coal Mine Methane (CMM)/ Abandoned Mine Methane (AMM) also subset of CBM is related to mining activities and as per MOU between MoC and MoP&NG, coal producing companies have right of CBM exploitation in their working mines including pre and post mining operations.

  • Town Survey Report, Dhanbad, Part XB, Series-4, Bihar
CENSUS OF INDIA 1981 PARTXB SERIES 4 BIHAR TOWN SURVEY REPORT DHANBAD Drafted by Rajendra Prasad Asstt. Director Edited by S.C. Saxena Deputy Director Supervised by V.K. Bhargava Deputy Director Directorate of Census Operations BIHAR FOREWORD Apart from the decennial enumeration of population, the Indian Census is ~teeped in the tradition of undertaking a variety of studies of topical interest. In fact, the publications brought out in connection with the earlier censuses contained veritable mines of informatfon! On racial, cultural, linguistic and a number of other aspects of life of the people of this country. With the advent of freedom, however, the scope and dimension of these special studies had to be re structured in a manner that would provide the basic feedbacks on the processes of development taking place in different spheres of life of the people especially under planned development. Thus, in connection with the 1961, Census, a massive programme wa~s launched inter-alia to conduct socio-economic survey of about 500 villages selected from different parts of the country. The main objective of this study was to know the way of life of the people living in Indian villages which accounted for 82 per cent of the total population as per the 1961 Census. There was, however, an imperative need to extand the area of the study to urban centres as well, to -provide a complete coverage of the people living in diverse sodo economic conditions. It was with this objective in view ancillary studies on towns were launched as part of the social studies programme in connection with the 1971 Census.

  • The Role of Mining Hydrological Investigation with Emphasis on Geophysical Approach to Ascertain Coal Barrier Thickness in Part of Raniganj Coalfield - India
IMWA Proceedings 1998 | © International Mine Water Association 2012 | www.IMWA.info THE ROLE OF MINING HYDROLOGICAL INVESTIGATION WITH EMPHASIS ON GEOPHYSICAL APPROACH TO ASCERTAIN COAL BARRIER THICKNESS IN PART OF RANIGANJ COALFIELD - INDIA. P. K. GUPTA & T. N. SINGH CENTRAL MINING RESEARCH INSTITUTE BARWA ROAD, DHANBAD. 826001 ABSTRACT Underground Mines are the natural non renewable resource base, which sustain the prosperity of region and optimize local resource balance. The conservation and safety of underground mines from minewater inrush point of view, requires concentrated and coordinated efforts toward comprehensive knowledge of mining hydrology. The conceptual mine hydrological modeling is a successful venture and needs to be developed further for minewater flow characterization and minewater prediction rate on regional basis. The introduction of suitable legislation for coal barrier thickness is mandatory for successful underground coal mining operation in river valley. An attempt has been made to determine the critical coal barrier thickness at shallow depth, along partially approachable and largely unapproachable area using geophysical approach under the overall frame of mining hydrologicaly investigation. The study area belongs to the part of Raniganj coalfield, where the coal mining had been introduced in India since 1 ]th century. The study has delineated the critical coal barrier thickness with accuracy +I- 1m in conjunction with horizontal bore hole drilling with regulatory valve system at approachable area, as well as extended to 2unapproachable area. The study leads for provision of optimum minewater column to control over mine fire encroachment at one end, besides to prevent mine water inrush through old water logged portion at under side.
