More information on www.lachambredumarais.com AN ELEGANT DECORATION SIGNED BY PHILIPPE JÉGOU Architect and interior designer Philippe Jégou was a longtime collaborator of Jacques Garcia, before creating his own agency Naos Décoration in 2008. Project manager for exhibitions at the Château de Versailles, at the Manufacture des Gobelins or at the Louvre Museum (in the rooms dedicated to the 17th and 18th centuries decorative objects), he also works on private projects in France and abroad. After opening the Naos agency in 2008, he started interior design for private houses or luxury hotels such as la Réserve Gabriel Paris or the Château Cos d’Estournel (Saint-Estèphe). Since 2014, he started creating his own designs; and today signs the decoration of La Chambre du Marais mixing velvets, wainscoting, trimmings and warm colors. AN ARCHITECTURE CONCEIVED BY AURORE VACHETTE The restructuring of the building was conceived by Aurore Vachette de Lesquen (Paris 1980). After studying at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), she wrote a thesis about the restructuring of the Lausanne Opera House. She then moved to New York seeking an international experience and to open her mind to new ways of thinking, enabling her today to highly exible having obtained a wide range of experiences. When she returned to Paris in 2005, she joined the Renzo Piano Agency and collaborated on one of their main projects: the extension of the Art Institute in Chicago. She also became a leading persona in the conception of London’s Shard building, Europe’s highest tower (over 300 meters tall). In 2008, she leaves the agency to work in Australia. In 2009, she started her collaboration with the Vincent Bastie agency working for prestigious clients such as Marc Jacobs or the hotel La Belle Juliette. This was her rst experience working for boutique hotels. In 2012, Aurore Vachette de Lesquen opened her own agency, specializing in building rehabilitations and constructions for hotels or cultural and artistic buildings. Top: In the sitting room, a sofa and chairs by Van der Straeten flank a Pierre Charpin coffee table, and a Louis XV chair sits at a French Regency desk. hen furniture designer Hervé Van der Straeten and his husband, Bruno Frisoni, W decided to sell their loft­like apartment in Paris’s 12th arrondissement, they set out looking for something û di erent. “We wanted an experience we’d never had before,” says Van der Straeten. What they found was a 1,750­square­foot one­bedroom apartment on the Île Saint­Louis, right in the center of the city. The building in which it is situated has cultural as well as historic resonance: Constructed in the mid­17th century, it was home to famed Barbizon School painter Charles­François Daubigny in the mid 180os. The apartment appealed to Van der Straeten particularly because of its exquisite proportions and soaring, 14­foot­high ceilings, plus its location directly on the banks of the Seine.

    Archives in France: The New Legislation of 1979 The main features of the organization of archives in France go back to the end of the eighteenth century. When, from 1789 to 1793, the revolutionary govern- ment suppressed virtually all the existing political, administrative, judicial and ecclesiastical systems of the ancient monarch, it became necessary to make ar- rangements for the archives of all the suppressed bodies and establishments. As early as 29 July 1789-in the very first weeks of the Revolution, fourteen days after Bastille Day, the newly-created Assernblee nationale organised its own records under the title of "Archives nationales". Soon, papers of differ- ent provenance were gathered with the papers of the Assemblee nationale. Little by little, the repository created in July 1789 became a haven for enor- mous quantities of records deprived of their legitimate owners by the revolu- tionary laws, to an extent that a law of 7 Messidor Year I1 (25 June 1794) de- clared that "the Archives nationales are the central repository for the whole Republic". ' This, of course, was unrealistic in practice, but the theory was established for centralization in the organization of archives, and after that it was never officially repealed. Yet, while the Archives nationales functioned as a "central repository" for the records in Paris, nothing had been done for the records in the dkpartements (the new word for "provinces"). This was the object of the law of 5 Brumaire Year V (26 October 1796) which concentrated the records, in each departement, in the chef-lieu (capital) of the dkpartement: later, these were named Archives de'partementales.
