MEMORIAM 210

ADVERTISING 216 Here at Embry-Riddle, we begin our day in such a pleasant atmosphere in Daytona Beach. As we pass by Embry-Riddle's entrance sign, we go into a world of Aviation. Amid our busy schedule here, we even find time to enjoy food provided by Epicure, as you can see, we just can't wait. Then, as we leave for the day, we can take the bike path via a scenic route.

iiii 4 Our flag flies high, while the palm trees stand tall and pretty, portraying a picture of serenity; however .

It's off to classes and studying

- 5 - ST ARTJNG A DAY The students wake up to a new beautiful day for studies. Some students are drowsy and tired from the night before. As the day continues, students get more involved with their studies.

:~x \. ..

iiii 6 The Engineering Building - In here students develop their drawing skill, the aerodynamics of the aircraft, and prove that the aircraft can fly. The Flight Line - Students plan their trips into the air with flight briefings, weather information and coordination with flight schedule, to make each flight a safe one.

• 7 I No time to smile for me. He's observing a basic rule even on Riddle's ramp .. collision avoidance . people avoidance .

AND. How about a thorough preflight, that's another basic rule here at E-RAU.

THEN. Off we go to fiddle with these; looks like fun huhlll

~8- A Falcon ... A Dream Plane A DC-9 ... An Inspiration

A Seminole - A Stepping Stone. To see them all at Embry-Riddle says Chris Halliday

- - 9 - Mary walks to class with a friend while Susan returns home from a tension-filled day, probably a test, to get away from it all. Epicure Food Services offers students a variety of choices for every meal.

•- 10 Checking in for an aircraft assignment is a part of the dai ly routine for students like Chris enrolled in a flight course. Checking the flight schedule can be both depressing and rewarding; depressing if a student is not assigned to a flight the following day, rewarding if the student is going to fly. Simulator training is an important part of many flight courses and gives the student valuable experience before he or she flies in the aircraft.

- 11 - E-RAU students need to carefully check all parts of the aircraft during preflight, here one co-ed inspects the rudder, prior to take-off.

This is too good a day to go inside for classes, but time and grades waits for no one.

Computer technology is an essential part of a computer science student's day-to-day class work, but homework means pro blem solving and using a good eraser.

- 12 As the sun goes down in Daytona Beach, it marks the end of another great day. Some students go out and roam the bars and yet many others retire to their dorms to study.

ENTERTAINMENT 85 -• Foghat put on an excellent outdoor concert at the Novemberfest, sponsored by E-RAU Entertainment. They brought back great memories for many oldtime Rock-N-Rollers, and thoroughly entertained the E-RAU Students and Faculty. Quality concessions were provided by clubs and organizations. An overwhelmingly large crowd, expressed their enjoyment, while downing an enormous amount of beer.

ENTERTAINMENT 87 HAPPY HOUR

; 88 iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii;i;iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii TGIF is what every student looks forward to in the week and when it is Friday you can usually ex pect to see the E-RAU Entertainment Comm. set ting up the stage for another Happy Hour Con cert. All the faces, all the smiles, and all the Beer seems to be the atmosphere when it's that time. Not only the students but also the Faculty and Staff share in this activity to end another week.

ENTERTAINMENT 89 -• The SGA hosted its annual Halloween Dance October 29, 1983, with an excellent turnout of students from E-RAU and DBCC in some unique and imaginative costumes. The University Center was decorated with black and orange helium balloons, crepe paper streamers and a monster picture with glowing eyes to set the mood.

iii 90 Music was supplied by THE UNTOUCHABLES A BAND BASED OUT OF Rochester, New York. Their energy music kept the crowd moving the entire night. The costume contest showed off the best and most imaginative (or hopeful!?) costumes de signed by those attending.

ENTERTAINMENT 91 •- E-RAU 's second annual Jazzfest held on October 15, 1983 was a success as the Pat Metheny group performed some of their best jazz Music. The lighting and stage were very well put together and helped with the overall mellow mood that night. His perfor mance assured the success of the Jazzfest and was talked about enthusiastically by students, staff and faculty for weeks.

Several experienced and even more not so experienced oarsmen vied for first place in the 11th Annual Riddle Regatta, sponsored by the Vets Club. The day was warm and the con testants were hot. first place went to the MARINES, whose man power and raft were evidently superior. After the race, there was plenty of Hotdogs, Coke and Beer to top off another successful raft race.

SKYFEST '84 was a spectacular event with over 30,000 spectators watching this first Daytona Beach Airshow. Skyfest '84 was so fantastic that the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce is thinking about making it an annual event. Crowds were entertained by a variety of different acts including the Blue Angels, Bob Hoover, Christian Eagles, Army Golden Knights, and Franklin and Kazian. Bob Hoover, an individual who is recognized by his peers for extraordinary achievement in the aviation aspect, he has earned the repetitive term as a pilots pilot; he has earned his name and then some. Hoover was a combat pilot in World War II, a for Rockwell's Navy PJ-2 Fury Jet, Air Force F-86 Sabre Jet and F-100 Super Sabre Jet. His precision demonstrations in the P-51 Mustang and the standard Shrike Commander thrill millions of Aviation enthusiasts each year as he did here at SKYFEST '84.

The Phonix Yearbook staff attempts to save the spirit and life of this campus as they take photographs, and write material for the yearbook. But is is a hard road to cover with deadlines creeping up all too fast on the staffers and with weeks of late nights and all-nighters to complete over 100 pages at a time of yearbook coverage. But the staff has been great this past year, and without much concern for compensation, has given an enormous amount of time and inspiration to the book. As advisor I have seen a strong group of concerned individuals working to save those memories and moments that reflect 1984 (and the fall of 1983). - Thank you staff ... Jean Snyder.

MY NY WYLY 213 Antonio Vieira Rodriguez February 22, 1959 - September 6, 1983 Craig Allan Montgomery December 8, 1949 November 5, 1983

Craig Montgomery had a love for flying that couldn't be matched by any other. He had an ambition to succeed in the field of aviation following the footsteps of his father whose life also ended suddenly and prematurely. His memory will be forever alive in his daughter, his family, his friends and the instructors and students at Embry-Riddle who had the opportunity to know him. I thank God for bringing Craig to me, giving me the opportunity to spend the last three years of his life with him. I am a stronger person with the grief I have experienced. He will live in my heart forever. I thank the staff of the Phoenix Yearbook for the chance to have this memoir of Craig Montgomery.
