Storm Lake returns runners as they look to keep building

Last year under the direction of Justin Mellmann, the Storm Lake boys took second place in the Lakes Conference, and the girls finished seventh. Both teams will look to build upon that from last year, as both return at least four varsity runners. The boys return: Tyler Dvergsten, Sam Dvergsten, Jackson Burton, Matt Lenzmeier and Tyler Moon. The girls bring back: Bianca Cervantes, Abby Venegas, Emily Cruz and Emma Oehler. Mellmann has seen some good things from the boys so far and a lot of his athletes ran through the summer. He stated that Lenzmeier and Moon have stood out a little bit, but all the guys are doing well. Senior Jessica Slight has joined the girls team once again after going out as a freshman, and Mellmann thinks she can lead the team. Cervantes has also improved and could be one of the top two this year for the girls.
