Highlights of Departmental Activities (Zoology Dept.) during 2018
* Study tour (third year students of the 2017-18 session)
Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD accompanied the team to Gopalpur beach (Odhisha) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) for an 8- day study trip during 31 December’2017 to 08 January’2018. Students of the third year (2017-18 session) participated in the trip.

It was the first reunion of the Department of Zoology of Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya. In fact, it was the first reunion of any Department of the College. On 26 January 2018, 25 ex-students of the Department, along with students from the current batches (total gathering: 76 students) witnessed a memorable event. The inaugural session was chaired by Hon’ble TIC, Sri Arup Sanyal, which was followed by student interactions and a picnic.

Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD accompanied the team to Nainital and surrounding areas (Uttarakhand) for an 8- day study trip during 16 to 24 February’2018. Students of the first year (2017-18 session) participated in the trip. The students also got a rare opportunity to visit the Zoology Department (and various laboratories of the Dept.) of Kumaun University.

Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD presented the Keynote Lecture in the 2nd International Conference on Agriculture, Forest, Food Sciences and Technologies (ICAFOF-2018) at the Sheraton Cesme Hotel Resort & Spa, Çeşme, İzmir, Turkey, organized by University of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli, Nevşehir, Turkey during 02 - 05 April 2018. This visit was partly supported by the University of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli.

* B.Sc. Results: Departmental record by Miss Sanchita Raha
The University of Gour Banga declared their final year B.Sc. (Hons.) results in July 2018 (2017-18 session). Miss Sanchita Raha of our College scored 63.5% marks (508 out of 800), which is the highest marks achieved by any student of Zoology (Hons.) of Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya till date.

* Participation in Refresher Course by teaching staff
Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD participated in the Refresher course (RC-306) in Life-Sciences organized by the UGC Human Resource Development Centre, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh during 3 – 22 September, 2018.

* Ex-student of the Department successfully clears NET exam
Binku Paul, an ex-student of our Department, who passed out B.Sc (Hons.) in 2015, and subsequently did his M.Sc from the University of Gour Banga in 2017 successfully cleared the NET exam conducted by CSIR-UGC in 17 June’ 2018. The results were declared on 27 November’ 2018.

* Department organizes the second “Annual Students’ Seminar”
Encouraged by the tremendous enthusiasm shown by the students in the 1st Annual Students’ Seminar in 2017, the Department of Zoology organized the 2nd Annual Students’ Seminar during 06 – 08 December’ 2018. The Chief Guest for the event on (06 Dec’ 2018) was Dr. Sudip Barat, retired Professor of Zoology, University of North Bengal.

This edition of the Annual Seminar was a notable regional event, where there were 5 keynote presentations by distinguished speakers/teachers of Zoology/Biology from the Gour Banga region. Besides, a total of 22 students from our College, as well as nearby Colleges, like Balurghat College and Balurghat Mahila Mahavidyalaya presented their papers. The Chairman for the final day (08 Dec’ 2018) was Dr. Ayan Paul, Asst. Professor of Botany, Raiganj University.

Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD accompanied the team to Digha beach (West Bengal) and surrounding areas for a study trip during 10 to 16 December’2018. Students of the third year (2018-19 session) participated in the trip.

The students of the Zoology Dept. participated in the Annual College Exhibitions held during December 17-19’2018. There was an incident of death of a guardian of a Zoology student on the day of the event, which left the entire Zoology team in deep sorrow; however, the students put up a brave show.

Dr. Prithwiraj Jha, HoD was Member of Jointly organized by University of “Scientific Committee” in the International Thessaly, University of the Aegean, Conference, “Hydromedit-2018; 3rd University of Applied Sciences of Western International Congress of Applied Greece & Panhellenic Society of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment”. Technologists Ichthyologists at, (8-11 November 2018) University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece.
