Stopping Juvenile Detention: The Joyce Foundation Betraying donor intent in the Windy City By Jonathan Hanen Summary : The Joyce Foundation’s en- dowment came from David Joyce, a lum- ber magnate who believed in the American system of free enterprise. Today the foun- dation that lives off his wealth is a hotbed of trendy, left-wing thinking and grant- making. It funds efforts to hurt the lumber industry, turn schools into union-controlled sources of Democratic Party patronage, block Americans’ gun rights, and constrict economic freedoms. Barack Obama sat on its board from 1994 to 2002, and directed the foundation’s money to causes Joyce al- most certainly would not have favored. he Joyce Foundation, based in Chicago, Illinois, was founded in T1948 by Beatrice Joyce Kean, the Leftist Ellen Alberding runs the Joyce Foundation. sole heir to the Joyce family fortune. • Ayahuasca Chega Aos EUA Uma Viagem a Preseli Em Busca De Sons Do Passado
• Glover Park Group Date: March 6, 2008 Re: Food and Fuel Campaign RFP
MEMORANDUM To: Scott Faber, Grocery Manufacturers Association From: Glover Park Group Date: March 6, 2008 Re: Food and Fuel Campaign RFP Thank you for the opportunity to present this proposal for services. The unintended consequences of America’s current corn-based ethanol policy are crying out for increased focus and attention. Already, independent-minded grassroots organizations, news media leaders and policy makers are recognizing the looming threat to the food security of Americans and vulnerable populations worldwide. In this environment, a federal agency-level or legislative solution to the economically, environmentally and socially untenable ethanol policies now in place is feasible. A range of options exist to help alleviate the problem. Examples include an EPA waiver, legislation eliminating or updating of the biofuels mandate, ending the ethanol import tariff and possibly shifting revenue from the blender tax credit to hunger abatement programs. At the same time, state governments looking to take action on climate change in the absence of clear federal leadership (or under the sway of corn ethanol interests) may soon establish undesirable policies, while other states may be reachable on reforming existing policies. We therefore have a window – albeit brief – to intervene and change funding priorities before the impacts become too great. Our opportunity and task is to galvanize grassroots, media and policy voices into a unified campaign that will impact decision makers at the state and federal level and deliver constructive shifts in policy. The Glover Park Group is an agency that was designed to help build and manage these kinds of high-intensity campaigns. We have deep experience bringing together diverse groups to organize around issues of common interest; effectively coordinating efforts among those groups; and then translating that organizational energy into effective communications blitzes that force policy makers to respond.

Many forms of modern slavery thrive in countries all across the globe. The sex trafficking trade has intensified despite the advocacy of many human rights-based groups. Southeast Asia ranks very high in terms of the source, transit, and destination of sex trafficking. In particular, human trafficking of women and girls for the purpose of forced prostitution remains an increasing problem in Cambodia. Cambodia’s cultural traditions and the breakdown of law under the Khmer Rouge and Democratic Kampuchea have contributed to the current governing policies which maintain democracy only at the surface level of administration.

IMPLIED VOLATILE EARTH 1 I. INTRODUCTION TO AN ERADICATION Did you ever receive an actual cow? “Oh boy did I, not a cow, but forty of them.”1 Finance in the age of the Anthropocene generates a cognitive challenge for multi- disciplinarily tackling the socio-economic condition effected by financial violence. Futures traders making mistakes in trades, with physical commodities suddenly appearing in front of them as a result, problematizes the position of the Anthropos vis-à-vis finance. What is the threshold of perceiving the system of derivative finance? Can it still be theorised while leaning on anthropocentricism? Or is there rather a need for a non-correlationist2 ontological understanding of finance, one that would be able to generate emancipatory politico- mathematical methods without the human in the centre of this philosophical framework? For doing so a turn to speculation becomes necessary: The 2007/2008 financial crisis resulted in several different negotiations on the ontological status of finance itself. Ontological reconsiderations of how finance effects discourses, ranging from culture and social interactions, to micro economic fluctuations and power-relations. Roughly speaking, all of these analyses are characterised by a concern for, and an approach influenced by, ‘speculation’ – a focus on risk and anticipation as being primary vehicles for capitalisation and financialization.

Tatarstan Clean Tech Fund L.P., Summary (December 2011) Russia has one of the world’s most energy intensive economies, consuming 6% of global energy. According to the International Energy Agency, energy intensity of GDP is 11 times higher than in Germany, six times higher than in Canada and four times higher than in Poland. These inefficiencies create an environment in Russia that is ripe for the adoption, development, and production of clean technologies – e.g., energy efficiency and storage, biofuels, clean water, etc. – with the potential for superior financial returns. • Diane Solway, 'Artful Finnish'
Diane Solway, ‘Artful Finnish’, W Magazine, October 17, 2014 A view of Suvikunta, one of the Zabludowiczes’ properties on Sarvisalo Island, Finland. Photography by Jason Schmidt Caragh Thuring in her cottage-turned-studio at Suvikunta preparing for a solo show opening in November. Nicolas Deshayes, Keith Tyson, Caragh Thuring, Erin and Sam Falls, Poju and Anita Zabludowicz, and Olafur Eliasson and his daughter Alma, with Schieleren (Smears), 2010, by Franz West. On a remote island in Finland, mega-collectors Anita and Poju Zabludowicz have established a breathtaking creative oasis. Perhaps it was the milky light of the night in summer, when the sun barely goes down. Or maybe it was the midnight saunas followed by bracing dunks in the sea. More likely, it was simply the light- headedness that comes from being out of the studio and plunked on a remote island off the southern coast of Finland, with little in sight except sky, water, forest, and fields. Whatever the cause, no one felt much like sleeping—not the rising stars Sam Falls, Caragh Thuring, or Nicolas Deshayes, all artists in residence on the property; nor Olafur Eliasson, who was visiting to scope out sites for a possible commission; nor Keith Tyson, a Turner Prize winner. Tyson’s Large Field Array, a work combining 300 sculptural elements, was soon to be housed in its own enormous barn on the grounds, which are dotted by rustic cabins. “Art camp” is how they all described the place. Such is the allure of Sarvisalo, home to the family retreat–turned–art colony and sculpture park owned by Anita and Poju Zabludowicz.
