turbo-charged hi-housers that ends up being one of those instant, out-of-the-box hits. It's got that heavy, grinding bass line, flowing melody line and vocals that mean something. You can't help dancing to this one. It's one of those records blessed with that magical ''feel good" element - you know the type. Anyway, you could run out and pay ten bucks for the single, only to keep running back to the stereo either to play it again or find another one to put on. At such a rate, you'll never get your house- work done or finish your makeup, right? But. ..if you just pay attention and do a bit of investigating, you'll find that Perfecto is putting out a compilation CD (due Sept. 24) which will feature that song plus nine oth- ers, all mixed together for over an hour of enjoyment - perfect for parties, lying around, whatever. So you decide - one song for ten bucks or ten songs for 30 bucks. I don't think we need a rocket sci- entist to figure out the answer to this one. Learn your labels and don't be afraid to ask the store clerk about upcoming compi- lations. They usually know about them way in advance. "Killing Me Softly"? Yes, I'm killed by all these covers. First we had the Fugees; it was cute for a minute, but then came Ooh La La La and next Sybersound. But now the debate over which one's best is over. Miss Flack and the girls over at Atlantic said, "Enough is enough" and redid the classic themselves. Yes, Roberta Flack singing her own song, for the dance floors - the end! This record is magical! Supposedly there were only 400 of them pressed, so the hunt is on. Good luck. Another classic that's been redone by the original artist is "Supernature" by Cerrone, this time remixed by one of my favorite deejays, Danny Tenaglia. Both mixes give us over ten minutes of musical ecstasy, with one having more of a tradi- tional flavor and the other ( Mix) being a little more progressive. There's also a Cerrone CD with many of his hits redone for the '90s that you may want to check out. One more ... check out Milk's version of "Last Night a OJ Saved My Life" - I think it's pretty cleverish. It's sort of a funky house theme with a bit of rap laid over a "Billie Jean" bass line. Cute...it works! "Music is the magic that can bring stran- gers together .... 1tgives us the strength to overcome the impossible .... n - Steve Best That's dance music THIS WEEK INTEXAS.",
