20 - 31 August 2015 ALPINE SKI RACING INVITATION & RACE NOTICE AUGUST 2015 Dear Alpine Ski Racing Nations, We are delighted to invite all nations to the FIS Alpine Ski Racing Australia New Zealand Continental Cup Races, which will take place at Coronet Peak, NZ. These events are part of the Audi quattro Winter Games New Zealand, an international biennial winter sports event based in Otago, NZ. The 2015 edition of the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ will take place over an 10 day period from the 21st - 30th August and will feature elite winter sports competitions in Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Freesking and Snowboarding taking place at venues across the Otago region of New Zealand’s South Island. The FIS Alpine Ski Racing Australia New Zealand Continental Cup Races will be hosted at Coronet Peak. The nearest township from Coronet Peak is Queenstown (13km, 20 minute drive). Queenstown is also the nearest major airport. Entries for the FIS Alpine Ski Racing Australia New Zealand Continental Cup Races are open now via the Coronet Peak Race Secretary. The Curling Tournament will take place in the Maniototo Curling Rink in Naseby, the mountain events at Cardrona Alpine Resort (Freeskiing & Snowboarding), Coronet Peak (Alpine Skiing) and Snow Farm NZ (Cross Country Skiing) and the downtown festival events in the Queenstown and Wanaka Event Villages. Alpine Ski Racing Venue - Coronet Peak, Queenstown Coronet is just a 25 min drive from Queenstown township and International Airport. Coronet Peak is the venue for all FIS and IPC Alpine Ski Racing and is also hosting the Opening Ceremony for the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ, which will feature an exciting Alpine dual slalom event. The elite component of this has a $30,000 prize pool - please see below for more information. There will not be training space available at Coronet Peak for 2015, however there are a number of other training venues in the region. There will be a doctor on site for the duration of the event. A Medical Plan is available. Rules Rules for FIS Alpine Continental Cup 2014/ 2015 apply. Entry Entries via online form. Entry must be made on an official FIS race entry form with separate forms for male and female competitors. www.wintergamesnz.kiwi 6 Entry Deadline Entries close at 15.00 on Tuesday 25th August 2015. Entries with quota requests MUST be made no later than 15.00 on Wednesday 18th August 2015. Entry fees NZ $60 per event for ANC Slalom and GS races, with exceptions as per Continental Cup Rules 2014/15. Payment will be taken at the First Team Captains’s Meeting. Eligibility Refer to Continental Cup Rules 2014/15 Section B Rule ANC 2.3. Higher Quotas for ANC Nations: Australia may enter up to 30 competitors (30 men and ladies). New Zealand as the organising nation may enter 50 competitors; in addition they are entitled to any of the 30 places Australia does not fill. Competitors from Australia, New Zealand and the African Continent can compete even if they do not have FIS points but they must have a FIS code. See rules ANC.2.3.1 and 2.3.4 FIS Quotas for Visiting Nations: New Zealand has the right to allow a nation from other regions up to double their normal FIS quota provided that all competitors appear on the valid FIS list and have a maximum of 140 FIS points in SL and GS and 160 FIS points in SG qualifying through DH, SG or GS. See rule ANC 2.3.3. National Federations applying for quota requests must apply in writing, accompanying the official entry form at least ten days prior to the competition. The Organising Committee will make a decision regarding quotas five days prior to the competition. www.wintergamesnz.kiwi 7 Lift Tickets Lift tickets will be free for competitors on the days they are racing and for coaches of competitors with 1 ticket per 8 same team athletes or part thereof and 50% charge of a day pass for remaining coaches. These complimentary lift tickets will be issued at the beginning of the Team Captain’s Meeting for each race. Opening Ceremony Friday 21st August 2015, Coronet Peak. Prize Giving All Awards and Medal Ceremonies will take place at 6pm on the day of the race in the Queenstown Hub on The Village Green, Cnrs Camp and Ballarat Sts, Queenstown. Podium winners must attend the prize givings. Media If you are planning to bring a media team with you, please note that they must be accredited by the Winter Games NZ Media Office. This applies whether they are editorial media or filming for promotional purposes. This form must be submitted by Friday 24 July. 8 Opening Ceremony & Night Dual Slalom The Audi quattro Winter Games NZ and Coronet Peak would like to invite the super stars of Alpine Ski Racing to compete in a Head to Head Night Dual Slalom race, under lights for a winner takes all prize pool of $30,000. The Opening Ceremony will take place at Coronet Peak, Queenstown on Friday 21 August 2015 between 5-8pm. The elite Dual Slalom will be the feature event, however there will be also local schools and business division dual slalom finals, live music, fireworks and the official opening of the Games by New Zealand dignitaries. Event Format & Timing Registration & Entries Date: Friday 21 August 2015 Registrations will be accepted from current and retired racers, with Venue: Shirt Front, Coronet Peak, available spots allocated at the discretion of the event organisers, Time: 6.30 - 8pm according to FIS ranking and athlete profile with some wildcard Racers: 16 or 8 Men and 8 or 4 Ladies spots. There will be no entry fees. Format: 1 timed run down each course, run head to head. Combined times determine who progresses. Athletes wishing to enter should submit their Expression of Interest Depending on field size, a timed qualifier may be run earlier in the as soon as possible to: day. Seeding will either be taken from this or will be decide upon Iona Bentley by event organisers.
