High Performance CAST Programme Info What you need to know! This is an information document that is aimed at clarifying internal (Cardrona Alpine Resort) & external (provider) costs with coming to New Zealand to train as part of the Cardrona Alpine Ski Team (CAST). The Cardrona Alpine Ski Team (CAST) has been hugely successful with an outstanding record of results throughout NZ. It is a fully-tiered race training programme that caters for entry-level racers right through to elite FIS athletes, & attracts a following of athletes from all over the world. Our well-known coaches have a wealth of knowledge, experience & passion for ski racing that will help you achieve your goals. Our programmes range from weekend groups to full time coaching & include on and off-snow training as well as event support. The programme is run as an official part of Cardrona Alpine Resort Ltd. All coaches & staff are employees of Cardrona. HPC Parks Squad & CAST full time programmes run Wednesday to Sunday with Monday & Tuesdays being rest days or make up days if there has been bad weather or competitions are scheduled. PS International Programme & FIS have the option to train Monday & Tuesday if needed. Joining Requirements 1. Registration form completed & returned online 2. Terms & conditions of registration & payments read & understood 3. Athlete training dates & fees confirmed with Cardrona HPC 4. Athlete training needs & goals to be discussed with Head Coach before training 5. Schedule confirmed & payments processed prior to training starting 6. Athlete membership of Snow Sports NZ to be able enter race events CAST Fees For all of the below services please email the CAST Coordinator ([email protected]) to confirm the cost for training fees, transport, season pass, homestay & event lift tickets. They will provide you with a quote. Payment must be received before you arrive. Training Fees FIS Full Time • We have part & full time options for training with CAST, with a flexible start date following the start of the programmes • Training weeks are based on 5 days of training & run from Monday to Sunday. FIS athletes must be flexible with their schedule as training is dependent on weather, terrain availability & competition days • We charge for 5 days of training regardless of whether you start training on a Monday or a Thursday, so make sure you think about this when you arrive in Wanaka & decide on the day you choose to start training • All competition & transport days are counted as training days • Programme fees include transport, uniform & dry land training. Prices are subject to change & can be quoted without transport & dry land training A CAST Athlete Registration form must be signed & completed. To receive this form & any additional information about the programme, please visit our website or email [email protected] www.cardrona.com High Performance CAST Programme Info U16/U14 & U12/10 • Choosing the number of weeks to train with CAST is flexible • Training days run from Wednesday – Sunday with the 5 day programme starting on Wednesday and working backwards. • 3-4 day programmes have 5 day training schedules over school holidays • 1-2 day programmes have 4 day training schedules over school holidays • All competition & transport days are counted as training days. • The programme fees can include an on-snow jacket (& soft shell for U16/14) • The programme fees can include transport. If you would like a quote for transport, please email [email protected] • Dry land training costs for U16/14 are additional & are quoted per season OR a 3 month gym membership (FIS) • Prices are subject to change accordingly A CAST Athlete Registration form must be signed & completed. To receive this form & any additional information about the programme, please visit our website or email [email protected] Training & Event Transport • We recommend that all FIS, U16 & U14 athletes purchase CAST transport. This is an additional cost to the training fees • The benefits of the transport include pick up & drop off, & access up the mountain for early morning starts. Transport to events within the Southern Lakes District (e.g. Cardrona, Treble Cone, Remarkables & Coronet Peak) is the same price as transport to training at Cardrona. However, there will be additional transport charges for traveling to competition outside of the region e.g. Mt Hutt • U12/10 athletes do not have CAST transport available • U16/14 pickup is Cardrona Town Office, 20 Helwick Street • FIS pickup is Cardrona Town Office, 20 Helwick Street Transport Pick Up On Arrival Christchurch • CAST offer a pick up from Christchurch International Airport on arrival subject to coach/driver availability • Christchurch airport is 425km or a 5hr drive to Wanaka • The cost is $450 for 1 person or $450 divided among the number of passengers if multiple people • We run this service as a non-profit, cost-sharing agreement Queenstown • We also offer a pick up from Queenstown International Airport • Queenstown is 65km or a 1hr drive to Wanaka & costs $50 for 1 person or $30 per person if there is more than 1 • We run this service as a non-profit, cost-sharing agreement Homestay • Cardrona provides homestay options for athletes in U16 & FIS at $330 per week • This includes weekly rent, power, gas, local phone calls as well as breakfast, basic lunch & dinner. Please email [email protected] for an info pack & to fill out a Homestay Registration Form so we can match you with the best family possible to meet your needs • Athletes will need to arrange season transport with CAST to get to training venues & events Season Passes • Earlybird & Autumn rates on season passes are available during March/April at discounted rates. HPC also offer discounted athlete adult season passes after these specials close on April 30 • Please visit the Cardrona website for more information on pass options: www.cardrona.com/season-passes Race Entry, Fees, Club Membership & Snow Sports NZ FIS Tech Series, ANC, Winter Games NZ, National Championships • For all ANC, FIS & Winter Games NZ events the athlete must pay for entry fees & lift tickets at the CAST office. The coach www.cardrona.com High Performance CAST Programme Info will then purchase the lift tickets & event entries on behalf of the athlete. Depending upon the event & the number of days competing, the CAST Coordinator may be able to provide you with a quote in advance • Please note that a small contribution is required for coach lift tickets. Additional coach contributions for lift tickets, transport & accommodation will be required for races outside of the Southern Lakes District the region e.g. Mt Hutt U16/14 – U8 NZ Youth Series, Interfields, South Island Championships • Athletes (U16-9) will need to register for any race event through the Snow Sports NZ website after becoming a member • For all races the coach will pay for the athlete’s lift tickets, however this needs to be paid back to the CAST Coordinator • Please note that a small contribution is required for coach lift tickets. Additional coach contributions for lift tickets, transport & accommodation will be required for races outside of the Southern Lakes District. To register and pay for ANY race event you need to become a member of Snow Sports NZ (www.snowsports.co.nz) & pay before the event (see external fees). To race in National Youth (NZ Youth Series) events athletes must also be a member of a snow sports club – please visit Wanaka Ski & Snow Sports Club (www.wanakasnowsports.co.nz/club-membership-form/) Dry Land Training FIS • Dry land costs can be included in programme fees, or short term ProActive gym memberships can be paid directly to ProActive Gym on registration if using the corporate rate is preferred • Full time FIS athletes will receive a 3 month membership for ProActive Gym in Wanaka • Days & times of team dry land training will be organised & communicated by the coach U16/U14 • Dry land costs can be included in programme fees or short term memberships can be paid directly to ProActive Gym on registration if using the corporate rate is preferred • 2 days a week you will partake in dry land training as a team. These are held at the Wanaka Rec Centre. U12/10 • Dry land will occur 1 afternoon a week after training & this will be communicated after training for the day & via Twitter & organised by the lead U12/10 coach • Dry land training can also be run in the event of a closed day or early finish due to bad weather or unsuitable training conditions Additional Costs & External Providers For all the below services you will need to contact the providers directly. Race Entries & Snow Sports NZ Membership • In order to compete in any races, U8-U16 athletes first need to become a members of Snow Sports NZ: www.snowsports.co.nz/welcome-to-the-snow-sports-nz-membership-/ • All athletes U8-U16 who are not FIS need to register & pay for events on the Snow Sports NZ website. Snow Sports NZ is our national sporting organisation. Please visit www.snowsports.co.nz • You can also visit the Snow Sports NZ website to view the Race Calendar www.cardrona.com High Performance CAST Programme Info Race Entries & Clubs Membership • In order to compete in any National Youth Series race event athletes will be required to be a Snow Sports NZ member & ALSO a member of a NZ snow sports club. Information on the local Wanaka Ski & Snow Sports Club can be found here: www.wanakasnowsports.co.nz Gym Memberships • For FIS athletes – 3mth gym membership is included in full season programme fees • For U16/14 athletes – Dryland is availabe for 2 x sessions per week held at the Wanaka Rec Centre • For additional dry land training, classes or personal training please email [email protected] or visit the ProActive website (www.proactivewanaka.com) Flights • If you wish, you can book flights through Wanaka World Travels.
