Notice: The Annual meeting of the Corporation will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Underground Theatre, immediately preceding the Arts and Culture Awards presentation. A LETTER FROM ANNE DUGAN, Executive and Artistic Director Duluth Art Institute

By investing in special exhibitions at the Duluth Art Institute, the Depot Foundation has made an important impact on the Twin Ports community and greatly enhanced the visitor experience at the Depot. Their commitment to the visual arts made possible such nationally recognized shows as George Morrison: Drawing at the Horizon. This exhibit was curated by the Duluth Art Institute and received tremendous praise from art professionals and the general public alike. The show was so well regarded that it went on to travel to the Bockley gallery in to coincide with another Morrison exhibition at the Minnesota Historical Society. It is gratifying to see that Duluth is exporting arts of our region to a wider audience. The Depot Foundation also made it possible for the Duluth Art Institute to put on the Anne Dugan first Plein Air festival in Duluth. 35 artists from across the United States came to Duluth for a week in July to paint outside. There was record attendance through the run of the exhibition and participating artists raved about what an amazing area this region is for artists. Planning for the 2016 festival has already gotten underway with significant interest from Duluth Tourism, the city, and local businesses who all recognize what an important impact artists can make on the economic and cultural health of this region. The Duluth Art Institute exhibition program seeks to nurture the careers of regional emerging artists; to inspire by exhibiting exemplary work from outside the region; and to showcase the work of this region’s seasoned professional artists. The DAI also seeks to engage, educate and entertain audiences through multimedia theme-based group shows. As a learning institution, a portion of the exhibition space is devoted to student and member exhibitions. This places the DAI in a special niche in the community – providing a very unique service when compared to other visual arts organizations. The focus on process and emerging artists, combined with quality gallery exhibitions that are not tied to a permanent collection, provides an original experience for audiences. The Depot Foundation’s continued support with special exhibits plays a key role in allowing the Duluth Art Institute to continue to deliver this important exhibit mission for the community.
