MIT Alums John M. Grunsfeld SB '80 and Michael J. Massimino SM '88 MS TPP '88 ME '90 PhD '92 witt taunch on Space Shuttte Atlantis for the fifth and final Shuttle Mission (STS-125) to the Hubble Space Telescope. Chicago native Grunsfeld, an astronomer, will be making his third trip to Hubble and his fifth space flight. He performed a total of five spacewalks to service the telescope on STS-103 in 1999 and STS-109 in2002. He also flewon 5T5-67 in 1995 and STS-81 in 1997. Massimino, from Franklin Square, N.y., will be making his second trip to Hubble and his second space flight. He performed two spacewalks to service the telescope during the STS- 109 mission in 2OO2.

Two MIT Astronauts are space Nov,2009

MIT Astronaut Robert Thirsk (SM '78, MBA SL '98) is aboard the lnternational Space Station (lSS) and MIT Astronaut Robert Satcher, Jr. (SB '86, PhD '93) joined him when Space Shuttle Mission STS-129 launched on Nov 16, 2009. This will be the 12th time in history that 2 or more MIT Astronauts will be in space at the same time. Thirsk will return to Earth via Soyuz TMA-15 on December 1,2009.
