All of us who enjoy the adventure of history, the search for beauty, and the evidence of scholarship will be grateful for the opportunity to see these 259 examples of some of the finest Attic black-figure and red-figure vases and fragments. Dietrich von Bothmer has described eloquently in his introduction the significance of the Bareiss Collection, which is undoubtedly the most important collection of its kind still privately owned. -

Appendix 1: Methodology This confirmation applies only to the well-defined hands. The Attic Black-Figure and Red-Figure Vases Found in Cyprus
MARIA STAVROU THE ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE AND RED-FIGURE VASES FOUND IN CYPRUS The subject of this article is the Attic Black-figure and Red-figure pottery found in Cyprus from the Archaic to the Late Classical Period, as well as the trade of pottery during the aforesaid period between Athens and the city kingdoms of Cyprus. The study1 on which this article is based includes six- hundred and fourty-two pottery articles (intact, parts, or fragments), the indexing of which has been arranged in alphabetical order according to their provenance. Furthermore they are grouped into Black- figure and Red-figure and classified in alphabeticcal order according to their shape. The considerable amount of articles found so far indicates the strong commercial ties between Greece and Cyprus. It is a fact that there is a relative absence of Cypriot ceramics in Greece, however Greek ceramics are found all over the island along the Cypriot history. Percentages that vary according to location and the frequency of findings usually reflect the level of the relations between the site and the mainland Greece. The Attic pottery trade with Cyprus demonstrates a sence of continuation through the passing of time. The reason for the strong and uninterrrupted commercial relations with Greece is not based only on the ground that the major part of the island was already settled by Achaean Greeks who brought with them their Greek culture and language, but mainly on the fact that the ports of Cyprus were used as intermediate landing ports for Greek ships sailing towards the East. As a result, the flourishing of the Attic trade with the Eastern Mediterranean world effectively influenced the trade of pottery in Cyprus during the 6th c. -

ATTIC BLACK FIGURE FROM CORINTH: II (PLATES 57-70) N THE SECOND HALF of the 6th century B.C., there is a substantial increase in the amount of Attic black-figuredpottery imported into Corinth.' That increaseis clearly il- lustratedby the fact that there are three times as many vases cataloguedhere as there were in "CorinthI", which was devotedto the material from the first half of the century.Some of the trends which were noted in "Corinth I" continue in the second half of the century. Drinking vessels predominate both before and after 550 B.C., for example, and Corinth importsa fairly wide range of shapes throughoutthe 6th century.There are, however, some importantdifferences between the pieces from the two periods. Only two kratersare dated to the first half of the century, while the krater is second only to the cup in popularity be- tween 550 and 500 B.C.The lekythos, which will be an important shape among Attic im- ports in the years after 500, is present in significantnumbers here. There were only three small lekythos fragments, perhaps all from the same vase, in "CorinthI"; eight are cata- logued here, all from the last quarterof the century.2 I This article is the second in a series of three devotedto the Attic black figure found at Corinth during the excavationsof the AmericanSchool of Classical Studies. FINAL OBSERVATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS Based on the foregoing discussions of individual potters, painters and workshops, this chapter examines more general matters and trends. It draws, of course, mainly on the 738 cups listed in the catalogue and appendix, which are below referred to as the corpus. Often, however, reference is also made to cups in the rest of the author’s database, that is, outside the corpus. Abstract: The article deals with Corinthian; Attic Black and Red Figure pottery finds from the excavations conducted by E. Akurgal and L. Budde in the ancient city of Sinope between 1951 and 1953. The study also assesses relevant pottery finds which were found in successive periods found in Sinope and their evaluations in statistical analysis. Assessment of the pottery finds has indicated that the earliest Corinthian products in Sinope are represented by an oinochoe from LPC period. Day Keywords: Greek, erotic, images, painting, Athenian, cups ABSTRACT Sex and pottery: Erotic images on Athenian cups, 600 - 300 B.C. by Michael Lee Banner Many pages have been written concerning erotic images on Greek vases but few studies have focused on the frequency of erotic images. This is an important concept in determining the significance of the erotic images. Various Athenian cups from the online holdings of the Beazley Archive were investigated, using simple tabulations and Chi- square analysis, for erotic images.
