I aspire to state that Tadepalligudem town is a Selection grade municipality with a population 1, 03,577 that spread around an area of 20.71 sq.km.

Specifically the town is famous for its rice cultivation and jaggery market,

Tadepalligudem has one of the largest numbers of rice mills in the district.

E – Newsletter furnishes the detailed overview of activities taken up by the municipality in the month of November 2016. Special initiatives discussed in this month mainly focus on the Special Sanitation drive, Storm water drain construction and other activities taken up in the Tadepalligudem

Municipality.

FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE INSPECTION AT DIFFERENT HOTELS IN THE CITY

Municipal Commissioner along with Asst Commissioner and other municipal staff inspected various hotels, street vendors, fast food centres and interacted with the management staff and also with customers in order to check the food safety measures that are being followed by them and also the existing sanitation situation and hygiene.

Municipal commissioner informed the vendors to maintain hygienic conditions at cocking

area, and basic infrastructure facilities like hand washing facilities, safe drinking water, Toilets,

disposal facilities etc. to be maintained properly. As the primary tenet of food service is absolute

cleanliness. It begins with personal hygiene, clean utensils, safe handling of food during preparation,

equipment, storage facilities, kitchen etc.

Commissioner warned that a legal action will be taken on those hotels which do not follow the

minimum food safety measure, hygiene and basic infrastructure facilities.

QUALITY COUNCIL OF INDIA (QCI) TEAM VISITED TADEPALLIGUDEM MUNICIPALITY

A representative from Quality council of India had visited Tadepalligudem Municipality in order to assess the sanitation situation in the city based on which the city will be declared as an Open

Defecation free (ODF).

During his visit he interacted with the Chairperson, Commissioner, Asst Commissioner and other municipal staff, collected information regarding the city profile and made a field visit to selected

Municipal Schools, Slum Settlements, Public Toilets, Market area etc. and also interacted with the

Community, Head master of the school, Maintenance person of the Public Toilet and took the Pictorial evidence of the existing sanitation situation in different parts of the city.

TOWARDS MOSQUITO CONTROL

Mosquito breeding habitats are mainly drains/ canals, septic tanks, cement tanks, pools/ponds, pit latrines, marshy lands, wells, overhead tanks, water meter chambers and miscellaneous household domestic containers.

Lack of adequate housing, water supply, sanitation and solid waste management facilities, as well as knowledge, attitudes and practice of the people are the major factors responsible for the spread of mosquitoes in the city which ultimately effect the health of the people.

Chairperson Shri Bolisetty Srinivas along with Commissioner and Asst Commissioner distributed new sprayers to the sanitary staff in order to control the mosquito menace in the city. The staff is responsible in spraying the chemical at the mosquito breeding habitats in every ward for three days in a month.

Silt removal from open drains is done in different wards of the municipality by the sanitation workers in order to ensure free flow of the water and to minimise the mosquito breeding.

wards of the Municipality

DRIVE AGAINST STRAY PIG MENACE

The Tadepalligudem Municipality has launched an operation to capture stray pigs, meeting a

long-felt demand of the residents.

The problem has plagued residents of 24 th , 15 th , 14 th wards for long. Following complaints

from residents, the municipality recently captured the pigs, which pose health hazards.

ADULT EDUCATION –SAAKSHAR BHARAT

Saakshar Bharat aims to promote Adult Education, specially of women, by extending educational options to those adults who having lost the opportunity of access to formal education and crossed the standard age for receiving such education, now feel a need for learning of any type, including, literacy, basic education (equivalency to formal education), vocational education (skill development), physical and emotional development.

In Tadepalligudem Municipality the community resource persons are training the women on basic education to acquire basic skills necessary to function in society. Every day based on their availability 1 hour training program is conducted

TARIANING ON CASHLESS TRANSACTIONS

MEPMA is conducting a training and support services through coaching centres to the SLF and SHG members for opening bank accounts, obtaining Rupay card, Adhar Seeding and mobile banking for

Cash less transactions.

INFORMATION EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION

Cautionary Sign boards are installed in different wards of the Municipality (along the - canal road), indicating fine against person who violate the rules – disposing solid waste in open spaces, road side and open defecation.

TSS Survey for Underground Drainage under AMRUT

As part of AMRUT 2016-2017 works a Total Station survey is in progress for the proposed Under

Ground Drainage in Zone I, II, and III of the Tadepalligudem Municipality.
