MANDATE OF WORK AND AIMS The listening and participatory process aims at sharing the decisional process that will bring to the transformation of the Bovisa-Gasometri area. Guidelines for the future transformation of the area will be defined through a participatory process. The 2 aims are: 1 PHASE • identifying the expectations and needs related to transformation of the entire transformation area (Ambito di Trasformazione Urbana - ATU) LISTENING 2 PHASE • designing through a participatory process the public park included in the transformation area PARTICIPATORY 2. STATUS OF BOVISA-GASOMETRI | Transformation area PROJECTS IN PROGRESS • A2A heating plant CONTAMINATION • In 2001/02 the area was included in the list of Sites of National Interest (SIN) and in 2013 reclassified as a Site of Regional Interest (SIR). • In 2013 the allocation of resources of the City Plan was approved providing funds for € 5 million to decontaminate the area so called Lotto 1 (plot 1) 4. WORKING METHOD 1. LISTENING ACTIVITIES First phase of interviews with selected actors according to their activities in Bovisa, Villapizzone and Parco Certosa neighborhoods in order to collect, primarily, questions and suggestions. 2. EXCHANGE ACTIVITIES Presentation and exchange of the main issues emerged as outcomes from the first phase of listening. Discussion with stakeholders on assumptions of transformation. 3. INFORMATION ACTIVITIES Thematic table about contamination of the area, on remediation techniques and on choices made by the Administration; and about the presence of wild vegetation. 4. WORKSHOP Structured moments of work with citizens involved in the listening activities: participatory design of the park that will insist on Lotto 1 and debate around the role of the university campus in the transformation of the area. 5. OUTCOMES OF THE FIRST PHASE (LOCAL ACTORS) | Territory’s tales BOVISA Historical working neighborhood with a strong political tradition Reduction of aggregative places Good integration between historical inhabitants and immigrants Piazza Bausan is the core of the neighborhood The university is not integrated in the neighborhood and there is no communication between citizens and students Some recent residential development are considered out of scale 7. OUTCOMES OF THE FIRST PHASE (LOCAL ACTORS) | Territory’s tales VILLAPIZZONE Historical village included into Milan area Small public spaces; Piazza Villapizzone, with its church, is the core of the neighborhood The garden of the «Family house» is a meeting place There is no lack of green spaces because of the proximity with Certosa Park The precence of many social houses point out the progressive impoverishment Improper uses of public spaces by new communities, somehow protecting those places 7. OUTCOMES OF THE FIRST PHASE (LOCAL ACTORS) | Territory’s tales PARCO CERTOSA Is the area that has changed the most in the last years, from refinery to residential neighborhood of 3000 inhabitants Parco Certosa is close to Bovisa, Villapizzone and Quarto Oggiaro neighborhoods but separated from these by the railway infrastructures It has many problems related to vehicular accessibility and public transports Green areas are a resource, despite of the problems related to protection The supermarket makes impossible the survival of small commercial activities 7.
