Trophée Eric Bompard Ross Miner says he’s done many more competitions this year than in previous International Senior-level competition, seasons, to “make sure I’ve worked out most of the kinks by the time the big ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series ones roll around. Mentally and physically this is probably the toughest part of Paris, France the year. We are all ramping up to full intensity and trying to stay healthy at November 16–18 the same time.” For Stephen Carriere, preparing mentally and physically comes down to how Christina Gao—Ladies confident you are in training. “For me, continuously running programs—and the improvement from that—helps me realize that at competitions I can—and will—perform what I do every day at the rink.” 4 CHIPS New England Regionals . a Big Sendoff The Skating Club of Boston is proud to send 97 competitors to this year’s New England Regional Championships, October 12–16, in Warwick, RI. Winners and other medalists will go on to compete at next month’s Eastern Sectionals in Hyannis. Last Friday, September 28, the Club hosted a send-off exhibition and dinner to honor these skaters. We had a great turnout of about 250 people, including skaters and their guests. The dinner, catered by Roche Brothers, offered an assortment of delicious foods and desserts and was quite a hit amongst our guests. This is the first time the Club has used the catering service for dinner and they certainly proved to measure up to our expectations by providing exceptional service. The evening was filled with fantastic exhibition performances by our New England Regionals competitors who have been working hard this season to perfect their programs. 2012 New England Regional competitors—Marlborough Congratulations to all our skaters who’ve qualified for this important competition. About the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series The ISU Junior Grand Prix Figure Skating Series started in 1997. It includes seven events and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. The Series features some of the up and coming Skaters of the world and provides young skaters aged 13 to 19 (21 for the male Ice Dance and Pair Skating partners) with the opportunity to compete at a high international level. A points system based on the ranking has been established to determine the qualifiers for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Points are obtained according to the results in each of the seven events and only the top six Skaters / Couples in each discipline can qualify for the Final. The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is financed by the ISU Development Program. Hilton HHonors Skate America is the first of six events in the the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2014/2015. Skaters compete for points towards the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and a prize money of US $ 180,000 per individual event of the Grand Prix. Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov (RUS) take Pairs Short Program Russia’s Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov took the lead in the Pairs Short Program. Cheng Peng/Hao Zhang of China placed second and Haven Denney/Brandon Frazier (USA) are currently ranked third. Performing to “Meditation” from “Thais”, Kavaguti/Smirnov produced a triple toe, triple twist, throw triple loop and picked up a level four for the twist, lift, footwork, death spiral and side by side spin. With 69.16 points, the 2010 European Champion set a new seasons best for themselves. “We are so, so happy to be back here in competition, so we were very excited today”, Kavaguti said. "Last season we had a (free) program that we really loved, so to finish the season without showing it made us very sad.
