One aspect of this change is that I have taken on the role of ‘editor’, and I’d like to particularly thank Jill Poole who has done a fantastic job of editing the magazine in recent months. Another aspect of this change is that we are trying to increase the amount of community content which we include—although the magazine is produced by the churches it is here to serve all in our communities (as indeed are the Churches themselves!). We’d therefore love to hear from you about what is going on—reports on any activities, information about events, achievements, interesting stories, recipes, gardening tips, poems etc. would be gratefully received. As you will see if you turn to the centre pages of the magazine, we will have a spread each month of photos from around the villages—again please do send in anything which you think might be of interest. This changeover has not been without its wrinkles, of course. In producing this edition I have been trying to track down photos for the centre pages. A few days ago I came across a lovely photo of 3 people from Ash Bowling Club holding a trophy which they had recently won. I got in touch to ask for permission to use the image, which was duly granted, however as I was doing the final proofread and checks on the magazine something didn’t seem quite right with the image—it turns out that they were from Ash Bowling Club in Canterbury, Kent! Change is rarely comfortable and it certainly isn’t always smooth, but the reality of life is that everything changes—be that our relationships, our bodies, or our favourite magazines. As the old hymn puts it, "change and decay in all around I see". But it is the next line of that hymn that is worth holding on to: “O thou that changest not, abide with me”. Amidst all the changes of the world, whether they are welcomed or regretted, God’s love for you will never change. Whatever changes are happening in your life at the moment I hope you know that God is with you and that the Church—which is also going through its fair share of changes—is there for you. So amidst the changes taking place on these pages, if you have any other ideas for ways we can improve the Crier, or if there is anything you think we’ve missed or should have included, please let us know about them. So let’s celebrate all that is going on in our communities—the old and the new—and let’s make the Village Crier the place where those stories are shared. Rev’d Rich Copy for the magazine can be emailed to: [email protected] or hard copy can be dropped off at: The AMICA Centre, Church Street, Ightfield, SY13 4NU Rev’d Rich Clarkson Rector of the AMICA Benefice Rev’d Rich’s usual day off is Friday [email protected] The Rectory, Moreton Say (01630) 639576 TF9 3RS Benefice Notices Bishop Mark leaving The Bishop of Shrewsbury (seen here at the 2016 Family Day) has announced that he has chosen to leave his role for a return to parish ministry in Exeter Diocese. The Right Revd Mark Rylands has served as the Area Bishop of Shrewsbury since October 2009 but has decided the time is right to move with his wife Mandy to the south-west where they have previously lived, served and have family. The popular 56-year-old will continue as Bishop of Shrewsbury until July when there will be a special farewell service. He will then take up his new role as a Priest-in-Charge of the Ashburton and Moorland Team in Exeter Diocese, where he will also be an Assistant Bishop. He said: “It has been a huge privilege to serve the people of Shropshire and Telford as the Anglican Bishop of Shrewsbury. Working in the Diocese of Lichfield has been an enriching experience and I am grateful to Bishop Jonathan Gledhill for giving me this opportunity back in 2009. His wise and gentle leadership helped foster unity in a diverse diocese. I have also enjoyed working with Bishop Michael as he has introduced a challenging and compelling vision: inviting people to ‘come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad’. Many in this country are not sure where Lichfield, Telford or Shropshire is. We are slightly off the beaten track, slightly unknown. How- ever, I know that a lot of good comes out of these places – I have been fortunate enough to live and work with the people here. I have been blessed to experience the company of some excellent colleagues who are prepared to pull together for the sake of God’s Mission in our communities. “It will be sad to leave. And for some it may seem a surprise move. But, for me, I have sensed God’s beckoning to serve as a parish priest again. For the last 16 years, as both Diocesan Missioner and Area Bishop, much of my ministry has been to encourage, challenge and help churches and church leaders to embody and share the Good News of Jesus Christ in the local community. I have heard God calling me now to ‘go and walk the talk’. Wood needed for Hope House Hospice Eric Williams from Tilstock Church is raising money for Hope House Hospice by carving and making various items out of wood which are sold locally and at some of their hospice shops—he has raised over £1700 to date. However to do this he needs wood to make things from. If you have any spare bits of wood that you think he could use, whether that’s old skirting, pieces of solid wood, disused furniture etc. (anything except old fence posts!) please let him know on (01948) 661851 and he will arrange to collect it.
