  • Cannabinoids and Endocannabinoid System Changes in Intestinal Inflammation and Colorectal Cancer
cancers Review Cannabinoids and Endocannabinoid System Changes in Intestinal Inflammation and Colorectal Cancer Viktoriia Cherkasova, Olga Kovalchuk * and Igor Kovalchuk * Department of Biological Sciences, University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge, AB T1K 7X8, Canada; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] (O.K.); [email protected] (I.K.) Simple Summary: In recent years, multiple preclinical studies have shown that changes in endo- cannabinoid system signaling may have various effects on intestinal inflammation and colorectal cancer. However, not all tumors can respond to cannabinoid therapy in the same manner. Given that colorectal cancer is a heterogeneous disease with different genomic landscapes, experiments with cannabinoids should involve different molecular subtypes, emerging mutations, and various stages of the disease. We hope that this review can help researchers form a comprehensive understanding of cannabinoid interactions in colorectal cancer and intestinal bowel diseases. We believe that selecting a particular experimental model based on the disease’s genetic landscape is a crucial step in the drug discovery, which eventually may tremendously benefit patient’s treatment outcomes and bring us one step closer to individualized medicine. Abstract: Despite the multiple preventive measures and treatment options, colorectal cancer holds a significant place in the world’s disease and mortality rates. The development of novel therapy is in Citation: Cherkasova, V.; Kovalchuk, critical need, and based on recent experimental data, cannabinoids could become excellent candidates. O.; Kovalchuk, I. Cannabinoids and This review covered known experimental studies regarding the effects of cannabinoids on intestinal Endocannabinoid System Changes in inflammation and colorectal cancer. In our opinion, because colorectal cancer is a heterogeneous Intestinal Inflammation and disease with different genomic landscapes, the choice of cannabinoids for tumor prevention and Colorectal Cancer.

  • On Time to Therapy Initiation and Resection Margins: a Retrospective Analysis of 104 Immediate Jaw Reconstructions
cancers Article Impact of Planning Method (Conventional versus Virtual) on Time to Therapy Initiation and Resection Margins: A Retrospective Analysis of 104 Immediate Jaw Reconstructions Michael Knitschke * , Christina Bäcker, Daniel Schmermund, Sebastian Böttger , Philipp Streckbein , Hans-Peter Howaldt and Sameh Attia Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Justus-Liebig-University, Klinikstrasse 33, 35392 Giessen, Germany; [email protected] (C.B.); [email protected] (D.S.); [email protected] (S.B.); [email protected] (P.S.); [email protected] (H.-P.H.); [email protected] (S.A.) * Correspondence: [email protected] Simple Summary: Computer-aided design and manufacturing of osseous reconstructions are cur- rently widely used in jaw reconstructive surgery, providing an improved surgical outcome and decreased procedural stumbling block. However, data on the influence of planning time on the time-to-surgery initiation and resection margin are missing in the literature. This retrospective, monocentric study compares process times from the first patient contact in hospital, time of in-house Citation: Knitschke, M.; Bäcker, C.; or out-of-house biopsy for tumor diagnosis and surgical therapy of tumor resection, and immediate Schmermund, D.; Böttger, S.; reconstruction of the jaw with free fibula flaps (FFF). Two techniques for reconstruction are used: Streckbein, P.; Howaldt, H.-P.; Attia, S. Virtual surgical planning (VSP) and non-VSP. A total of 104 patients who underwent FFF surgery for Impact of Planning Method immediate jaw reconstruction from 2002 to 2020 are included. The study findings fill the gaps in the (Conventional versus Virtual) on literature and obtain clear insights based on the investigated study subjects.

  • CA Students Urge Assembly Members to Pass AB
May 26, 2021 The Honorable Members of the California State Assembly State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Thousands of CA Public School Students Strongly Urge Support for AB 101 Dear Members of the Assembly, We are a coalition of California high school and college students known as Teach Our History California. Made up of the youth organizations Diversify Our Narrative and GENup, we represent 10,000 youth leaders from across the State fighting for change. Our mission is to ensure that students across California high schools have meaningful opportunities to engage with the vast, diverse, and rich histories of people of color; and thus, we are in deep support of AB101 which will require high schools to provide ethnic studies starting in academic year 2025-26 and students to take at least one semester of an A-G approved ethnic studies course to graduate starting in 2029-30. Our original petition made in support of AB331, linked here, was signed by over 26,000 CA students and adult allies in support of passing Ethnic Studies. Please see appended to this letter our letter in support of AB331, which lists the names of all our original petition supporters. We know AB101 has the capacity to have an immense positive impact on student education, but also on student lives as a whole. For many students, our communities continue to be systematically excluded from narratives presented to us in our classrooms. By passing AB101, we can change the precedent of exclusion and allow millions of students to learn the histories of their peoples.
