the orchidPhile October 2019 PRE-ORDER LIST www.facebook.com/orchidphile (203) 329-7255 Address all correspondence & orders to: [email protected] (Please mention “Plant Pre-Order” & note the particular show/event or “Mail Order” in the subject line) This list replaces & supersedes all previous lists. All orders are filled in the order in which they are received and are subject to prior sale. Be aware that a few very special plants will only be reserved for your Pre-Order, for a show or mail order. PLEASE NOTE: Prices are listed in US Dollars NEW: We’ve chosen to separate the different types of Phalaenopsis into their very own sections to make finding the type of Phalaenopsis you like much easier: Phalaenopsis Categories are now divided into: Species, Multi-Floral Minis, Micro-Minis, “Big Lip” hybrids, Waxy (often Fragrant) Novelties & larger-flowering Classic Phalaenopsis in new colors & patterns We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Vandaceous, miniature Dendrobiums, miniature Oncidinae & divisions of some of our select Paphs in addition to Miscellaneous Genera ~ all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. Each genus is put into their own category after our Phal. listings. Most plants are in 2.7 - 3” pots as first or second bloomers unless otherwise noted as being in 4” pots Stock quantities of 6 or fewer are noted in parens ORDERING INFORMATION FOR OUR MAIL ORDER CLIENTS: In the winter or during inclement weather, shipments may be delayed pending more moderate weather conditions. Shipping is either via FedEx Ground or Air depending on the final destination. We reserve the right to withdraw any offering from sale and to limit quantities. We guarantee all plants to be true to their identity to the best of our knowledge. However, since many come in from Taiwan, we have to assume they are properly labeled as to their species or hybrid name. We make no warranty as to the productiveness of any plants sold since everyone’s culture conditions vary widely. Although we do our utmost to pack carefully, we are not responsible for damage to buds or flowers due to shipping if buyer specifically requests these plants ~ therefore, risk is assumed by buyer for buds or flowers on plants shipped at this stage Safe arrival of a healthy orchid plant is guaranteed. Packing & Shipping Charges: Based on the total of your order, a minimum of 10% for packing plus the actual FedEx shipping cost will be charged. We use FedEx Ground for all 1-3 day deliveries within our delivery zone since Ground shipping rates are much more reasonable than Air. If heat packs are requested, they will be provided for an additional $4.50. Additional Shipping Note: FedEx charges an extra $3.50 for “Home Delivery” so many of our clients choose to have their plants delivered to either their office or to a nearby FedEx Ship Center that accepts “Hold for Pickup” packages ~ those business/FedEx locations always get their deliveries much earlier in the day than the average Home Delivery. If you want to save the additional charge levied for Home Delivery, please let us know if you have a business address you would like to use, or we can research a FedEx location near you that would accept a Ground or Express package as a “Hold for Pickup”. During the colder & hotter months of the year, having your plants sent to either your business address or a FedEx location as a “Hold for Pickup” usually means it’s delivered much earlier in the day & is not exposed to riding around on a cold or hot delivery vehicle for additional hours. So whenever possible, we highly recommend doing this. SIZE DEFINITIONS: PF = Previously flowered, fully mature Blooming Size plants F = Currently in flower (single spike unless otherwise noted) B = In bud (single spike unless otherwise noted) SP = In spike, just initiating to medium spike stage (single spike unless otherwise noted) BS = Blooming size (should flower in season) NBS = Near blooming size (approximately 1 year to flowering in season) S = about 2-3 years to flowering PHAL SPECIES: Most of these Phalaenopsis species are from Taiwan & reflect much improved forms & colors, having been sibbed or selfed using very select parents. Species like Phal. bellina, violacea, venosa, speciosa, gigantea, viridis and javanica are extremely slow to reach maturity & can be easily lost as small seedlings so we’re only offering well-established Near Blooming or Blooming Size plants. As a result of their extra years to reach maturity, the pricing on these plants is higher than is usual for quicker growing & more readily available Phal. species. PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. aphrodite subsp. formosana ‘A09001’ (4N) SP $ 45 (2) (TETRAPLOID FORM of Species) A dynamite tetraploid form of this favorite of all Phal. species ! This clone is producing more compact leaves and much larger flowers than is typical for this subspecies of aphrodite. Its fuller form & beautifully round flowers with the petals almost touching carries great substance & produces a much longer- lasting display with a smaller leaf span than is typical for this species. And the bonus to this particular 4N strain is their naturally & gracefully cascading spikes which make for a stunning display ! WINNER OF IPA BEST PHAL IN SHOW TROPHY ! Phal. bellina (Sib cross of Species) B/F $ 65 (1) A simply sensational sib cross of this fragrant species, producing beautifully round compact foliage as the perfect backdrop to its round heavily blushed waxy flowers ! The improvements in Taiwan to Phal. bellina breeding have been stunning, and this particular sibbing has been beyond our expectations with every one being a potential winner ! FRAGRANT ! ONE -OF-A-KIND SEEDLING ! Phal. bellina fma. coerulea BS $ 75 (Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species) (1) The fragrant & beautiful Phal. bellina in a new color form ! This cerulean strain has a blue flush which, along with its deep lavender lip, makes quite a statement. And a few from this sibbing will revert with a more typical rich pink bellina flush. This species will continue to flower on older inflorescences in addition to producing new. We’re guessing this group is about a year from flowering & yet we’ve seen a couple spike up already, showing their increased vigor as a sib cross ~ of course, they sold right away ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLING ! PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. cornu-cervi fma. chattaladae 4N (Mericlone) BS $ 75 (4) (TETRAPLOID form) JUST IN This is the genuine chattaladae form of Phal. cornu-cervi from David Grove, owner of the only known plant of this variety. OF NOTE: There are other red forms of Phal. cornu-cervi being offered – but they are actually fma. rubescens or a cross between fma. rubescens and possibly fma. chattaladae….all showing a hint of yellow in their lateral sepals and most with a yellow back to the flowers. Fma. chattaladae has a totally solid red back to its flowers with no hint of yellow anywhere except the very tips of the lateral sepals, & it retains its solid red color, even on the fading flowers, whereas fma. rubescens will begin to show yellow as the flowers fade. Phal. equestris fma. alba BS $ 42 (1) (Rare pure alba form of Species) These seedlings are from the same population as a select form of this species to which we gave the clonal name ‘Tara’s Beauty’ (pictured on the right) ! The flowers are fuller and much longer lasting than is typical for the species which leads us to wonder if it’s a tetraploid (4N) population. Their vigorously branching spikes make this strain highly desirable. We often leave their still-green spikes on each plant since they can readily produce keikis on those spikes in addition to producing new flowering spikes ! MINIATURE SPECIES ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. equestris fma. aurea BS $ 65 (2) (Mericlone) (YELLOW LIP form of Species) JUST IN A stunning variation on this beloved species, bearing pure white flowers accented with a golden-yellow lip ! Same compact leaf span & spike height as all the other members of this species with the potential to produce a keiki on its previously flowered spike. These have been unavailable for years so we were thrilled to find just a few more on our recent trip to Taiwan ! MINIATURE SPECIES Phal. equestris fma. coerulea PF/BS $ 48 (2) (Blue lip form of Species) This white form of Phal. equestris bears soft cerulean blue lips, varying slightly in their blue intensity according to light & temperature when they’re forming. Beautifully compact spikes are produced on their first flowering. Always leave the still-green spikes on these plants since they can continue to either add additional buds or produce keikis from the original spike & still create new flowering spikes ! MINIATURE SPECIES ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! Phal. schilleriana ‘Wilson’ SP $ 48 (1) (Silver leaf form x Spot leaf form) (“Silver Leaf” form of Species) This particular sibbing of two forms of LAST this species has resulted in beautifully ONE ! mottled silvery leaves with a distinct & well defined spotting pattern ! This particular clone is an amazingly strong grower for the species with firm leaves & heavier substance flowers. We have found that this species does best for us grown under slightly lower light than we give our Phalaenopsis hybrids & the waxier summer-flowering species. A great plant for year round enjoyment due to its amazingly attractive leaves ! FRAGRANT SPECIES PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE BS $ 85 Phal. speciosa (tetraspis) var. christiana (‘C#1’ AM/AOS x self) (1) (Two-tone color form of Species) A unique color form of this species which has been recognized & awarded by the AOS both as Phal.
