I r of together , have w itten this short Memoir my - h w of . o Mastership thirty one years Perhaps , it ever , would be as well to begin with a very few remarks about the history of the pack . The pack was originally started in 1 82 2 by

Mr . George Folj ambe , who continued the Master ship until his blindness compelled him to resign

fo in 1 845 . My father then acted as Master r one year , when Mr . Richard Lumley , afterwards seventh Earl of Scarbrough , became Master . In

My father was an enthusiastic sportsman . He hunted the Rufford Hounds himself three days a —1 8 6—1 8 8 week for two seasons 3 3 , and as he was Serlb living at y , and the nearest meet was fourteen miles , he had very long distances to go . He had a wonderful bay hack mare for some years , and in one one week , taken as an average , he rode her

1 76 miles to and from hunting . Besides hunting f on the Ru ford , he used to hunt the other days VISCOUNT ’ GALWAY S HOUNDS .

On looking round he found there were only three hounds left w ho f could make any e fort at all , so he stopped them and picked up the stragglers on their way home . The stag was shot in the c ornfi elds near Kelham in the summer .
