INTERSCOPE SNAGS 2007 CROWN Zomba Second; Atlantic, IDJMG, RMG Round Out Top Five

Interscope is the 2007 Mediabase champion. With the likes of Fergie, Timbaland, Snow Patrol, Maroon 5, and Soulja Boy, Interscope finished ahead of second place Zomba. Interscope did so with a huge chart share jump, up from 8.4% last year to 12.6% this year. Zomba had a record year, finishing a solid second, rising from 8.0% in 2006 to 11.9% in 2007. The label was keyed by Justin Timberlake, Pink, T-Pain, , and at the Top 40, Rhythmic, and Urban formats. One of the biggest wins this year for Zomba was at Rock, Active Rock and Alternative, where was the most played artist. Atlantic had another solid year, finishing third. The label acquired Roadrunner, and therefore the huge and airplay that comes with it. However, Atlantic had a solid year all around with Gym Class Heroes, Plies, Musiq, and T.I. Last year’s champion, Island Def Jam came in fourth this year. The loss of Roadrunner surely had an effect, but IDJMG still ranked in the top five. Leading the IDJMG charge this year were Rihanna, , Fall Out Boy, and Ne-. In fifth place was RCA Music Group – keyed by “” contestant Daughtry – who scored No. 1 hits at Top 40, AC, and Hot AC. Baby Boy, , and also contributed to the RMG success.

INTERSCOPE CLAIMS HOT AC VICTORY Nickelback, Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty Put Atlantic In Second

Thanks to huge hits from Snow Patrol, Gwen Stefani, and a pair of big songs from Maroon 5, Interscope lands top label share honors at Hot AC, with a stellar 15.3% share. Atlantic, who took over Roadrunner, got the Nickelback franchise, which moved them from third to second, and a solid 14.1% chart share. Atlantic also got a lot of help from the voice of Rob Thomas, who had solo hits, along with a new single late in the year with Matchbox Twenty. In third place was the RCA Music Group at 13.4%, up from a fifth place 9.5% a year ago. “American Idol” stars Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson all played a key role in the label’s success this year, as did hits from Avril Lavigne. Columbia, went from seventh in 2006 all the way to fourth in 2007. The label increased their share from 7.2-9.8% John Mayer, Mat Kearney, and Pat Monahan were amongst the label’s top artists in the Hot AC format. Epic rounded out the top 5, with acts the Fray and Natasha Bedingfield leading the way.
