Staff Fee Privileges – Employee and Transferred Questions & Answers
University of Oregon STAFF FEE PRIVILEGES – EMPLOYEE AND TRANSFERRED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS These frequently asked questions, combined with the information located on the Staff Fee Privileges Approval Forms, will answer most questions about the Staff Fee Privileges available to eligible University of Oregon staff and family members. For your convenience, there is an online “updateable” Approval Form at the following web address: https://hr.uoregon.edu/benefits/staff-rates/forms For additional information, contact the University of Oregon Human Resources Office. Approval forms for family members should be submitted to Human Resources two weeks prior to the start of classes. Staff may submit employee approval forms up to two days prior to the start of classes. Employees are eligible to use or transfer the benefit if employment begins on or before the first day of the term. Human Resources will send all approved staff fee forms to the campus enrollment offices before the first day of classes. The University of Oregon reserves the right to deny staff fee rates for late submission of approval forms. If the form is submitted after the deadline specified above, it may be approved at the discretion of both the employing and enrolling campuses; employees with approved late submissions will be responsible for accrued interest and billing charges. Denials may be appealed to the university. I. Employee Use of Staff Privileges 1. What are Staff Fee Privileges and who is eligible to use them? WICHE & OREGON Partnering for Over Six Decades ACCESS • COLLABORATION • INNOVATION The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is a 16-member commission working to boost access to higher education for students in the West and, as importantly, to ensure their success. Oregon has been a member of WICHE since 1953. Western Undergraduate Exchange. January 29, 1855 Legislature established two universities, one in Lewis County and one in Seattle. January 30, 1858 Legislature repealed act of 1855 and located one university at Cowlitz Farm Prairies, Lewis County, provided one hundred and sixty acres be locally donated for a campus. (The condition was never met.) 1860 to 1869 December 12, 1860 Legislature passed bill relocating the university at Seattle on condition ten acres be donated for a suitable campus. January 21, 1861 Legislative act was passed providing for the selection and location of endowment lands reserved for university purposes, and for the appointment of commissioners for the selection of a site for the territorial university. February 22, 1861 Commissioners first met. “Father” Daniel Bagley was chosen president of the board April 16, 1861 Arthur A. Denny, Edward Lander, and Charles C. Terry deeded the necessary ten acres for the campus. (This campus was occupied be the University until 1894.) May 21, 1861 Corner stone of first territorial University building was laid. “The finest educational structure in Pacific Northwest.” November 4, 1861 The University opened, with Asa Shinn Mercer as temporary head. Orbis Cascade Alliance Memorandum of Understanding This understanding is made as of the date of last signature by and between The Evergreen State College, the Orbis Cascade Alliance (hereafter known as the "Alliance"), and the State of Oregon acting by and through the State Board of Higher Education on behalf ofthe University of Oregon (DO). The term of this agreement is from this date and will not terminate except upon written notice as per Sections 3 or 6.1. 1. Establishment 1.1. The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of publicly and privately funded institutions of higher education. The Alliance provides services and sponsors activities that aid collaboration among member institutions. 1.2. The functions of the Orbis Cascade Alliance include: a. To provide access to a union catalog oflibrary materials owned by member institutions. b. To provide interlibrary circulation services that allow patrons to request materials from the collections of member institutions. c. To enhance cooperative electronic and physical document delivery of library materials held by member institutions. d. To support cooperative collection development activities by member institutions. e. To support group negotiation for electronic resources and other products of interest to the membership. f. To sponsor workshops, conferences, and other opportunities for professional development. g. To support other activities at the discretion ofthe Orbis Cascade Alliance Council of library directors. 2. Governance 2.1. The Orbis Cascade Alliance is governed by the Orbis Cascade Alliance Council (hereafter known as "the Council"), a board composed of the library director of each member institution. 2.2. Each member institution shall have one vote on the Council. -
Business Practice: Selection of Peer Institutions
Office of Budget and Planning Business Practice: Selection of Peer Institutions The office is frequently asked to prepare reports and statistics that compare U-M against “peer” institutions. Comparisons can include business practices, specific metrics, outcomes, or other measures. The Provost’s Office has requested consistency in the list of institutions included as peers in reporting. This business practice establishes the selection method for peers based on the purpose of the comparison. There are two primary options for peer comparison groups: • Benchmarking Peers – See Appendix A • AAU Peers – See Appendix B The “benchmarking peers” group is the default for all comparisons. However, there may be situations where a larger set of institutions is required for meaningful comparisons. For example, this can happen when comparing state appropriations across institutions. Using the benchmarking peer list in this situation would mean comparing only nine public institutions and the comparison of U-M to these nine might not provide the intended message. Additional examples for use of the “AAU peers” are listed later. Benchmarking Peers The benchmarking peer list is based on the list of top institutions identified during the development of the faculty recruitment, retention, and departure report for the Provost’s Office. Each summer, the deans are asked to report on senior faculty recruitment, retention, and departure activity for their unit, including which institutions hire our faculty (or attempt to) or are the source of faculty new to the University of Michigan. Compilation of this information produces a list of the “top” institutions for this faculty activity. The baseline benchmarking peer list was established in 2014-15. -

OSU Libraries and Press Annual Report, 2012-2013 PROGRAMMATIC ACHIEVEMENTS 1A. Student engagement and success Instruction: Center for Digital Scholarship Services (CDSS) faculty taught several workshops and conducted numerous consultations for graduate students on copyright permissions and fair use. These activities led to a number of graduate students strengthening their research through the use of copyrighted images, which they'd either been advised to remove or had decided to remove themselves because of copyright concerns. Special Collections and Archive Research Center (SCARC) faculty: engaged with more than 2,000 people, an increase of 64 percent over 2011-2012. This includes 1,226 students in course-related instruction and 755 people (including students) in tours or orientations of SCARC. co-taught the Honors College course TCE 408H “Sundown Towns in Oregon” with Professor Jean Moule, fall 2012. The class's four students co-curated a display featured in The Valley Library’s 5th floor exhibit area. worked with SOC 518 “Qualitative Research Methods” students to develop six oral histories of individuals important to OSU history. These student-conducted interviews have since been deposited in a dedicated SCARC oral history collection and were featured in a Valley Library exhibit case. collaborated with students in the History course HST 415/515 “Digital History” to develop a web site on the history of Waldo Hall – based on research in SCARC collection by undergraduates who selected content and wrote text for the Waldo Hall online exhibit. OSU Press staff met with the following classes at OSU and other universities and schools: WR 362 Science Writing, in the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film; John Witte’s editing class at the University of Oregon; Scott Slovic’s editing/publishing class at the University of Idaho; Roosevelt High School Publishing and Writing Center in Portland. -
