  • Building Cold War Warriors: Socialization of the Final Cold War Generation
BUILDING COLD WAR WARRIORS: SOCIALIZATION OF THE FINAL COLD WAR GENERATION Steven Robert Bellavia A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2018 Committee: Andrew M. Schocket, Advisor Karen B. Guzzo Graduate Faculty Representative Benjamin P. Greene Rebecca J. Mancuso © 2018 Steven Robert Bellavia All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Andrew Schocket, Advisor This dissertation examines the experiences of the final Cold War generation. I define this cohort as a subset of Generation X born between 1965 and 1971. The primary focus of this dissertation is to study the ways this cohort interacted with the three messages found embedded within the Cold War us vs. them binary. These messages included an emphasis on American exceptionalism, a manufactured and heightened fear of World War III, as well as the othering of the Soviet Union and its people. I begin the dissertation in the 1970s, - during the period of détente- where I examine the cohort’s experiences in elementary school. There they learned who was important within the American mythos and the rituals associated with being an American. This is followed by an examination of 1976’s bicentennial celebration, which focuses on not only the planning for the celebration but also specific events designed to fulfill the two prime directives of the celebration. As the 1980s came around not only did the Cold War change but also the cohort entered high school. Within this stage of this cohorts education, where I focus on the textbooks used by the cohort and the ways these textbooks reinforced notions of patriotism and being an American citizen.

The MJCast - Episode 061: Jonathan ‘Sugarfoot’ Moffett Special If using any of the below text, please reference The MJCast and display the following podcast URL. Thank-you. http://www.themjcast.com/episode-061-jonathan-sugarfoot-moffett-special/ The MJCast (Q): Hello, and welcome to the MJCast! I am Q, one of your hosts for today, and today we're interviewing one of Michael's most long-standing collaborators—potentially his most long-standing. The MJCast (Jamon): Jonathan 'Sugarfoot' Moffett worked with Michael Jackson and the Jacksons as their tour drummer starting in 1979 with the "Destiny Tour", and continued to work with them later for the "Triumph Tour", the "Victory Tour", Michael's 1988 Grammy Awards performance, the "HIStory World Tour", his "30th Anniversary" shows, and, eventually, "This is It". MJCast (Q): Not only did Jonathan Sugarfoot have the honor of collaborating closely with the Jacksons, but he has also toured with artists such as Madonna, George Michael, Prince, Elton John, and Lionel Richie. MJCast (Jamon): Jonathan, it's an honor to have you here on the MJCast how're you going? Jonathan Moffett: I'm doing pretty good—I've been doing pretty good. A little mistake in there—I'd never toured with Prince. I've worked in a studio [where] Madonna and Prince [were] on the same song "Keep it Together", so I've never toured. I don't want misinformation to get out there, so I've never toured with Prince, although he has asked me about touring with him, which never just came about because he was at a lot of the after parties at the Jackson shows, Elton shows, and cameo shows, and he'd speak to me and give me a combination of performance and he asked me about playing with him, but it just never happened.

  • The Best Years of Our Lives- Definitive Edition Steve Harleys Hit-Album Mit Massenweise Bonusmaterial Dreifach-CD Mit Live-DVD

  • Glam Rock by Barney Hoskyns 1
Glam Rock By Barney Hoskyns There's a new sensation A fabulous creation, A danceable solution To teenage revolution Roxy Music, 1973 1: All the Young Dudes: Dawn of the Teenage Rampage Glamour – a word first used in the 18th Century as a Scottish term connoting "magic" or "enchantment" – has always been a part of pop music. With his mascara and gold suits, Elvis Presley was pure glam. So was Little Richard, with his pencil moustache and towering pompadour hairstyle. The Rolling Stones of the mid-to- late Sixties, swathed in scarves and furs, were unquestionably glam; the group even dressed in drag to push their 1966 single "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" But it wasn't until 1971 that "glam" as a term became the buzzword for a new teenage subculture that was reacting to the messianic, we-can-change-the-world rhetoric of late Sixties rock. When T. Rex's Marc Bolan sprinkled glitter under his eyes for a TV taping of the group’s "Hot Love," it signaled a revolt into provocative style, an implicit rejection of the music to which stoned older siblings had swayed during the previous decade. "My brother’s back at home with his Beatles and his Stones," Mott the Hoople's Ian Hunter drawled on the anthemic David Bowie song "All the Young Dudes," "we never got it off on that revolution stuff..." As such, glam was a manifestation of pop's cyclical nature, its hedonism and surface show-business fizz offering a pointed contrast to the sometimes po-faced earnestness of the Woodstock era.

For Immediate Release THE FIRST FAMILY OF MUSIC, THE JACKSONS, HEAD TO HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO ATLANTIC CITY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 AT 8 PM Atlantic City, NJ (June 25, 2018) – Quite possibly the most recognizable family in music history, The Jacksons will be heading to Sound Waves at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on September 1 at 8 pm. Consisting of original members Jermaine Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson, The Jacksons put on an amazing show that includes all of their mega-hits made famous with their brother, Michael Jackson. This energetic show consists of all the famous dance moves and costumes. Seeing The Jacksons is an opportunity to witness live the re-formation of one of the greatest pop and Motown super groups in the history of music. The Jacksons were one of the biggest phenomenons in pop music during the early '70s, and the last great group to come out of the Motown hitmaking machine with their infectious brand of funky pop-soul – a definite departure from the typically smooth, elegant Motown sound, applying the group's youth and the dawn of a new decade. The Jacksons, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers since 1997, have five #1 albums, 18 #1 hits, 17 top 10 albums, 17 top 40 singles which include their most notable songs like "ABC," "I Want You Back," "I'll Be There," "Rockin' Robin," “Never Can Say Goodbye,” “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground),” “Blame It On The Boogie,” “Can You Feel It,” and so much more! Tickets for The Jacksons ranging from $57.50 to $97.50go on sale this Friday, June 29 at 10 AM.

For my father, Jeffrey Pemberton, whose long and difficult struggle with an unforgiving and cruel disease has helped me to overcome fear of uncertainty and pain. Thank you for instilling in me strength, courage, resilience, and fortitude.
