Stiil tekkis 70. keskel ja Black Sabbathi kõrvale tõusis NWOBHM-st (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) välja kasvanud Judas Priest, kelle muusika on isegi tänapäeval tasemel. Esialgu kasutati terminit 70. aastate blues-rock bändide juures (Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin), hiljem, peale punk-stiili tekkimist NWOBHM kohta. Veelgi hiljem mõeldi selle all klassikalist “rasket metalli” ja kui alaliike veelgi juurde tuli, siis kogu metalžanri. Nüüdseks mõeldakse heavy metali all peamiselt Glam metalit, Power metalit, klassikalist Heavy metalit ja progesiivset heavy metalit ning ka Epic metalit. Üldžanri nimi on lihtsalt metal. Siiski kasutab asjatundmatu ajakirjandus terminit heavy metal tihti kui hard rock’i ja metalit hõlmavat “käreroki” sünonüümi. NWOBHM New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Alustas 1970'nendate keskel.Stiil tekkis heavy metal-muusikute vastuseisu tõttu plaadikompaniidele ning paljud bändid otsustasid nendele allumis asemel minna teist teed: Teha ise plaate ja neid iseseisvalt müüa. Sellest ka paljude tolleaegsete bändide kaheldav helikvaliteet. Mõnede arust pole siiski tegemist stiiliga vaid koolkonnaga, mis sünnitas palju sarnaseid bände, kuid mille areng nad hiljem eraldas. Tuntuim ja esimene NWOBHM bänd on Judas Priest, kuid paljud nii ei arva. Judas Priesti regioon ja muusikaline kontseptsioon on väga sarnased NWOBHMi tolleaegse stiiliga. See stiil on väga sarnane tolleaegse hard rocki vooluga. Võib öelda, et oli isegi olemuselt lihtsam kui hard rock. Vahe oli siiski olemas: agressiivsem muusika ja jõulisemad laulusõnad. Peamine NWOBHM konkurent oli tollal populaarsust koguv punk-vool eesotsas Sex Pistolsi ja The Exploitediga. N.W.O.B.H.M. hakkas hoogu kaotama 80nendate alguses ja 80nendate keskel Trash metali tulekuga suri peaaegu täielikult välja. Tuntumad NWOBHM tegijad on veel Iron Maiden oma esimes kahe albumiga (hiljem muutus), Saxon, Samson, Diamond Head, Tygers of Pan Tang, Blitzgkrieg jne. Ja ka algusaastate Def Leppard. Heavy Metal (1980) See on see, mida praegu nimetatakse klassikaliseks ehk puhtakujuliseks “metalliks”. Tekkis 80-ndate alguses, kui NWOBHM oli oma identiteedi kaotanud ja arenedes edasi teisteks stiilideks. Esimeseks klassikaliseks heavy metal-albumiks võiks nimetada Black Sabbathi “Heaven and Hell” (1980) ja teine väga tugev album sellest stiilist on Dio “Holy Diver” (1984). See stiil on juba tunduvalt karmim, kui seda oli NWOBHM. Sound oli massiivsem ja sõnades olid kasutusel esmakordselt eepilised sõjateemad. Samuti tulid kasutusele teemad nagu religioon ja poliitika. 3 Moodi läks eepiline lähenemine muusikale ja ka iidne sõjavarustus hakkas kuuluma esinejate aksessuaari (Manowar, Dio, Grim Reaper jne.), kuid see ei olnud valdav. Parimad esindajad on Black Sabbathi 80-ndate albumid. Veel bände: King Diamond & Mercyful Fate, hilisem Iron Maiden, Accept, DIO, isegi punkrockist välja kasvanud Motörheadi võib siia alla pista. Ja muidugi ka Manowar. Manowar'i muusika oli eriti eepiline. Hiljem hakatigi Manowari järgi sellist muusikat epic metaliks kutsuma. Ka Black Sabbath pole tegevust lõpetanud. Rootsis tegutsev Lion's Share on ehe Heavy metal. Samuti on taasühinenud vana punt nimega Jag Panzer, mille praegune looming on vägagi arvestatav. Võttes arvesse progressi muusikas, tuleb heavy metali alla arvestada (võibolla veidi vastumeelselt) ka muudest stiilidest kujunenud heavy metalit, nagu näiteks Megadethi ja Metallica 90-ndate looming. Glam või Hair metal (Ca 1980) Tekkis üheaaegselt heavy metaliga koos tollal leviva glam rocki mõjul. Stiilile on omased eriti lihtsad kolme-tuurilised kitarrikäigud ja ülisuur rõhk lavashowdel. Glam metal-bändi tunneb kohe ära liikmete pikkadest juustest. Laulud on enamasti armastusest, seksist ja chillimisest. Lavashow’sid saab pidada nn. Glam rocki või siis Hair rocki karmimaks pooleks. Metalli pool on jällegi agressiivsem. Kui glam rocki tuntumad esindajad on Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, hilisem Def Leppard ja Aerosmith siis Glam metalit esindavad W.A.S.P., Mötley Crüe (“Shout at the Devil”), Grim Reaper, Ozzy Osbourne ja L.A Guns. Tuntud veel nime all Shock rock. On veel nähtus nimega Melodic glam. Sellist muusikat on lihtne kuulata, kuid see sisaldab ka suurel hulgal ballaade ja keskmise tempoga laule.     éééééeDITO Dans de nombreux fanzines, il m’est arrivé de lire en début d’édito : « 1 an que je suis dessus à en chier… du coup les chroniques et interviews ne sont pas, fraîchement parlant, d’une actualité à toute épreuve… » etc. A défaut d’être original, ça fait bien 1 an que l’on a eu cette idée de créer un ’zine ! Yo. L’idée était de pondre un fanzine gratuit à 1000 exemplaires, consacré à la BD et à la scène punk, alternative, DIY… (comme tu veux tu dis). Il a donc fallu trouver un « financement » pour payer la gratuité, en refusant évidemment toutes formes de subventions ou autres sys- tèmes pourvus d’originalité, par respect des lecteurs et de nous-mêmes. Sans vouloir tomber dans le confort nihiliste, il existe suffisamment de modalités / morales / fonctionnements ou autres pressions quotidiennes sans réelles alternatives, ce qui n’est pas le cas en ce qui concerne la contre-culture* (*terme qu’il va falloir penser à rejeter, mais je n’en ai pas d’autre sous la main). Nous décidons alors d’organiser un concert de soutien le 9 décembre 2005, et proposons à 2 groupes du coin (Shedding Skin et Fuck Off Für And The Putrid Sound) qui acceptent d’y participer. L’info ayant circulé, 2 autres groupes attirés par le rougeâtre de table johan- nique… (Décombres et James Brown’s Hide Show), de Paris cette fois, se proposent. OMAR KHORSHID - Guitar El Chark DOUBLE 12" LP ( Sublime Frequencies ) I hear that this sucker is already sold out, and I can understand why. Guitar El Chark , which translates to 'Guitar of the Orient', is a collection of singles, and album cuts that spawn the Lebanese years of Omar Khorshid's musical career. The Egyptian Khorshid began playing guitar in the early 60s, and soon formed Le Petit Chats, who were modeled after The Beatles. Later he would join Abdel Halim Hafez and Baligh Hamdi in their orchestra, and that was when his fame began to spread throughout the Middle East. In the early 1970s he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and recorded several solo LPs from 1973 to 1977. This later solo work is where the songs on Guitar El Chark come from. This release, and Omar's later work, consist of a blend of surf guitar, traditional Arab music, Flamenco, and psychedelic keyboards that form an instrumental, almost early-Bollywood sound. Seventeen tracks, and one promotional radio spot, adding up to over eighty minutes of awesome. I cannot express how wonderful it is to finally get my hands on some of his work. Well, neither can thousands of others, as this limited edition, gatefold, double slab of 12" wax has apparently flown off the racks. Hopefully, Seattle's Sublime Frequencies Records will reissue this in CD format for the newly schooled masses.

EINHERJER: Einherjer er et viking metal band fra Haugesund som ble dannet i 1993. Noen av albumene er tungt folke-inspirert mens andre har den mer tradisjonelle black metal-stilen. Tekstene til Einherjer handler om legender fra norrøn tid, og hvert album har sitt eget tema. Bandet ble oppløst tidlig i 2004 etter å ha gitt ut deres siste album Blot i desember 2003. 10. desember 2010 annonserte Einherjer at deres femte studioalbum vil komme ut i løpet av våren 2011, over sju år etter deres siste album, Blot, ble gitt ut. 9.September i år slapp de skiva «Norrøn» på plateselskapet Indie Recordings.

    PUBLIC COLLECTORS Records Collection Inventory of: Marc Fischer Chicago, IL, USA About PUBLIC COLLECTORS Public Collectors consists of informal agreements where collectors allow the contents of their collection to be published and permit those who are curious to directly experience the objects in person. Participants must be willing to type up an inventory of their collection, provide a means of contact and share their collection with the public. Collectors can be based in any geographic location. Public Collectors is founded upon the concern that there are many types of cultural artifacts that public libraries, museums and other institutions and archives either do not collect or do not make freely accessible. Public Collectors asks individuals that have had the luxury to amass, organize, and inventory these materials to help reverse this lack by making their collections public. The purpose of this project is for large collections of materials to become accessible so that knowledge, ideas and expertise can be freely shared and exchanged. Public Collectors is not intended, nor should it be used for buying and selling objects. There are many preexisting venues for that. Collectors can accommodate viewers at whatever location is most com - fortable or convenient for them. If their collection is portable or can be viewed in a location other than the collector’s home, this would still be an appropriate way to participate in the project. In addition to hosting collection inventories and other information, www.publiccollectors.org includes digital collections that are suitable for web presentation, do not have a physical material analog, or are difficult or impossible to experience otherwise.
