IUCN Congress Students’ Day Number of Participants September 6, 2016 // 8AM – 2 PM 856 students 159 teachers/chaperones Hawaiʻi had the honor of hosting the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress and pioneering programs for youth, such as the Pavilion Presentations 1,015 total participants IUCN Congress Students’ Day. Students had the opportunity Number of Volunteers As a joint community effort, this event gave Hawaiʻi students the opportunity to to visit two of the nine 109 experience the global conference in a thematic IUCN Congress Partners, collaborators, and community members meaningful way. Students’ Day was open to Pavilions. Each Pavilion volunteered on Students’ Day. th th Hawaiʻi students 6 – 12 grade, with Number of Schools representation from public, private, charter, and home schools. Students learning from Mark Ellis, Hōkūleʻa navigator, at the Hawaiʻi Pacific Pavilion 54 Middle schools and high schools participated at Pavilion Presentations Students’ Day. Students had the opportunity to visit two of Student Representation the nine thematic IUCN Congress Pavilions. Each pavilion featured a twenty minute 3 24 21 presentation by a conservation expert 8 showcasing their work and its importance to 44 conservation. This gave students the Students’ Day Working Group and Speakers opportunity to learn about global climate change issues and engage with international Inspirational Speakers conservation experts. Pavilion themes included: To open the event, students heard from  Water inspirational guests who spoke about their 756* experiences in conservation and the  Forests essential role that youth play in finding  #NatureForAll solutions to protect our planet. These guest  Oceans & Islands speakers included:  Business & Biodiversity  ʻ Big Island Kauaʻi Maui  David Ige, Hawaiʻi Governor Hawai i Pacific   Dawn Ige, Hawaiʻi First Lady Species Conservation Molokaʻi Canada Oʻahu   Jack Johnson, Singer/Songwriter Protected Planet: Delivering the Promise of Sydney * Number of student participants from each  Alison Sudol, IUCN Goodwill region Ambassador

A Design Thinking Activity to Hawaiʻi Youth Sustainability  Hālau Kū Māna – Ke Ea Hawaiʻi Redesign Sustainability and Challenge – Legacy Initiative  Homeschoolers of Older Empower Youth to Protect A major goal of Students’ Day was to Children on STEM Club Nature inspire youth and give them a platform to  IMAG Academy LAB Students used the Design Thinking connect with the IUCN Congress.
