T Our District Governor’s becoming a Rotarian is one for the books. Upon the invitation of a drinking buddy, he unknowingly accepted with his innocence that drinks and food are free during Rotary meetings. That was in 2000 and the rest they say is history.

Convinced of the ideals and principles of Rotary, he became CONNECTED as an active member and eventually became the 45th President of the Rotary Club of West, seven years after his induction. His stint as President gave honor to his Club with the following recognitions: Area 1-C Most outstanding Club President and Highest TRF Contribution, District’s Outstanding Club Secretary and the most prestigious Rotary International Presidential Citation.

Through the years, he has transcended his leadership from the Club to the District level, serving Rotary various major positions, amongst others as Assistant Governor, District Trainer, District Secretary, District , Finance Chair, Paul Harris Fundraising Chair and the latest Chairmanship of District Rotary Foundation Committee (DRFC).

He also put his money where his mouth is -- He is a Paul Harris Society member and a Major Donor. He believes that this financial contribution demonstrates his commitment to serve others.

Aside from being a Rotarian, he is also actively involved in other socio-civic and religious organizations. He is currently the Vice Chair - Visayas of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP); Board of Regents ofCebu Technological University (CTU), a certified Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), Past President of the Mandaue Chamber (MCCI) and eleven other prestigious civic, religious and non-governmental organizations, both local and national.

His dedication to serve the country was twice recognized by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, for promoting productivity and innovations in his advocacy and contributions that benefited businesses groups, government agencies, LGU’s and particularly, the Department of Labor and Employment. In 2014, former President Benigno Aquino III appointed him as one of the Management Representative to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of DOLE Region 7. In 2016, SGV/ Ernst and Young awarded him INNOVATION ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR in the . He was conferred the honorary degree as Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management by Cebu Technological University, with concurrence by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for strengthening Vocational Technology education.

As an entrepreneur, he started his micro business from scratch with limited financial resources and no formal education in Engineering. Slowly but surely, he brought his company to success without sacrificing the betterment of his employees, which includes PWD’s. He is the founding Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Wellmade Motors & Development Corporation, an ISO-9001:2015 international certification in respect for its quality management system, manufacturing and metalworking technologies, with subsidiary companies, joint ventures and franchisees in the Philippines and South East Asia.

A servant leader, he is happily married to spouse Judith, raising four children and with their first newly born 4th generation grandson. His eldest son, Jeffrey, is also an awarded Rotarian and an active member of the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Center.

Dr. Philip N. Tan, Ph.d, T.M. H.C., F.I.C.D. Governor, Rotary District 3860

Here in the United States, another summer is winding down. And for the Maloney family, every summer ends with a return to my hometown of Ridgway, Illinois, for the annual Popcorn Day festival, where I am honored to serve as the “Popcorn King,” the master of ceremonies for the day’s events.

Regardless of the season, every family has its own traditions. I would like to suggest a new one for

yours: Find an opportunity to introduce your family to Rotary. One of my family’s traditions is to take Mark Daniel Maloney our daughters and grandsons to the Rotary District President, Rotary International, 2019-2020 International Convention.

The 2020 convention in Honolulu will be a wonderful way to introduce your children and grandchildren to the internationality of Rotary. We are planning many family-oriented events for everyone to enjoy.

Any time is a fabulous time to bring family members on a Rotary service project or to a fundraising event. But perhaps you have not seen many family-friendly events at your club. That is precisely why one of my top priorities this year is to make most Rotary events welcoming to family members.

We must foster a culture where Rotary does not compete with family, but complements it. We should never expect our members to choose between the two. That means being realistic in our expectations, con- siderate in our scheduling, and welcoming of children at Rotary events on every level.

Often, the young professionals that Rotary needs to attract in order to remain a dynamic 21st-century service organization are the very people who have the greatest family responsibilities. We must not keep the- se prospective young members away from their families by holding events on evenings and weekends at which their children are not welcome.

For too long, we have closed the doors of many Rotary events to children and sometimes even spous- es. What wasted opportunities these are! Every chance we have to pass on the gift of Rotary to young people is one we must take if we are going to grow Rotary and ensure that the next generation is fully engaged in our mission.

So let us open our doors and do it in a fun way, with opportunities that make our children and grand- children want to learn more about Interact, Rotaract, and Rotary membership. Start small if you must — per- haps by holding some of your meetings at more family-friendly times — but think about how you can continue these kinds of events for years to come.

Bringing children to Rotary events is not just fun; it also exposes them to the world! Make this a mem- orable year for your family — and an unforgettable year for the ever-expanding family of Rotary as Rotary Connects the World. Rae Kara A. Malbog PHF+1

Assisstant Governor

It is a busy week for all clubs of Area 2D as we welcome the official visit of District Governor Philip N.

Tan to our respective clubs. As mentioned to you during my visit to your club, DG Philip Tan will focus

on your scorecards. We are still in the 1st quarter of our Rotary Year 2019-2020, and as expected,

there will be unfilled boxes on that scorecard but make sure to set goals to be achieved by club.

The scorecard will show the progress of your club as you move along and also help you in

identifying your strong and weak points. The District Governor's visit is also an opportunity to discuss

problems or concerns for the Rotary Year. But more importantly, it is an avenue for fellowship with the

District Officers. This is their personal connection to your club. So lets enjoy his company, have fun as

we connect with him. Be a proud Rotarian, because in your own humble little way, you have made an

impact to world. So continue to be a blessing to others and continue to connect to the world. DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S VISIT September 4, 2019 @ 6:00 pm Miko’s Brew, Apokon, Tagum City Host: Deep Pink

Father,

Thank You for every seat that has been filled here, today. For each mind and heart that fills the presence of this room, we thank You. Only You truly know what we are setting out to accomplish today. We have an idea, a vision, hints, and daily instructions. We have talents, abilities, and time to work. However, only You can see in perfect detail the end of every beginning. Every project, every season, every life. Nothing is ever in vain, for even mistakes and missteps are used for good. Bless this meeting today, all those present, especially District Governor Philip N. Tan, as well as the lives of those we will encounter afterward. Ready us to make every moment count. In Jesus name, amen. ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUM GOLDEN L.A.C.E.S. The idea of organizing an all-female Rotary Club of Tagum was thought of as early as 1989 by the Rotarian and Anns of RC Tagum North. The initial organizing of the club however started only sometime in the first week of February 1991. The names of 28 selected ladies were first floated by the Rotarians & Anns of RC Tagum North.
