Licence no. 100019422 HER data 1.1.1 Statement of heritage significance The area of ‘Pre 1880s Settlement’ shown on map 2 indicates the historic settlement of The Hyde. Settlement appears to have existed here by the end of the 13 th century 1. The nature and extent of the settlement during the medieval period is, however, currently unknown. A property called ‘Hyde House’ appears to have existed by the early 17 th century when George Brindley was recorded as living there 2. This house was apparently rebuilt during the 18 th century although a Grade II Listed dovecote and undesignated garden walls are all that survive 3. Hyde Farm, which presumably formed part of the Hyde House estate, has been identified as exhibiting a regular courtyard plan form. These plan forms are strongly associated with the industrialisation of farming during the late 18 th and 19 th century and indeed the farm buildings are said to be of 19 th century date 4. To the east the field system has been tentatively identified as ‘Reorganised Piecemeal Enclosure’ upon map 2.

In 1739, showman Robert Cadman made a fatal attempt to slide from it, head first, using a rope and a grooved breastplate. His engraved obituary stands outside the west door. The church has ancient origins. It dates from Saxon times and has beautiful additions from the 12th century onwards. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful with the soaring stone arches giving way to the church’s great treasure – its stained glass.

INSERT YOUR PICTURE(S) IN THIS CELL Southern Staffordshire Surface Water Management Plan Phase 1 Addendum Stafford Borough, Lichfield District, Tamworth Borough, South Staffordshire District and Cannock Chase District Councils April 2011 Final Report 9V5955 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In November 2009 Royal Haskoning was appointed to produce a Phase 1 and Phase 2 Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP) and a Phase 1 and Phase 2: Scoping and Outline Stage Water Cycle Study (WCS). The Phase 1 SWMP and WCS was finalised in July 2010 and the draft Phase 2 SWMP reports submitted in March 2011. However, during the course of this project Staffordshire County Council, as part of its new responsibilities as Lead Local Flood Authority, completed a Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA) report for the County. The PFRA process required a major review of all sources of historical and future flooding which included the provision of new datasets provided by the Environment Agency. As a result, some of the information included within the original Final Phase 1 SWMP has been superseded. The aim of this Addendum is therefore to bring the PFRA and SWMP in line with each other. It introduces the PFRA report and outlines the updated data and impact of this data upon the Phase 2 SWMP assessment. The Partnership formed between various organisations within the Phase 1 SWMP has now been extended to include the additional organisations contacted during the PFRA process. This has resulted in significant additional historic flooding information being made available and this data has been collated by Staffordshire County Council and centralised into a single spreadsheet.
