This annual event of Islamic society is 88 years old and strong. And this event has been able to attract schools from all over the island and is currently the most looked upon event among the schools having an Islamic society of their own. Thus, being able to attract many students each and every year we organize the competitions. The Inter School Islam day is a very colourful program that displays the fact that Zahira College being a leading Muslim school in Sri Lanka, opens the gates for Muslim students around the country to show their talents at a common platform. This is a great opportunity to show the talents of our very own students to the society, by having an All Island Intra School Competition. The primary objective of this program is gathering Brothers and Sisters in Islam and sharing our ideas to plan the upcoming years. This year we decided to hoist the day under the theme “Sunnah is the Path to Success”. We picked up this theme because we felt that there is a dire necessity for the Muslim student community to be aware of the true Muslim heritage. Therefore, we decided to take this opportunity which attracts huge number of Muslim students to make ourselves aware of our very own heritage. Here, as the theme Suggests, we hope to travel to the past and give the Muslim youth who would be participating from all corners of Sri Lanka an essence of Islam and its glory. • Thomiana Newsletter January 2010
www.STCOBAaust.org.au THOMIANA Volume 13 - Issue 4 THOMIANA NEWSLETTER S. THOMAS’ COLLEGE OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION AUSTRALIA BRANCH INC PO BOX 2337, Mt. Waverley, Victoria 3149, Australia Dear Members of the STC OBA, Warm regards for the New Year. The New Year heralds the AGM in February that brings promise of new members, fresh ideas and an infusion of energy that will drive the OBA’s Calendar of Events. I’m proud to report that the current committee worked hard and with great determination to ensure the success of all of our activities in a year that will be best remembered as the year of the Global Financial Crisis. Job losses, tighter purse strings and an overall sense of doom and gloom couldn’t stop the Thomians in Melbourne. We started the year with the joint Royal-Thomian Dinner Dance and Cricket match in February and followed that up with two successful dinner dances in August and November, the Seniors’ Lunch in June and the Members’ Night in September. In addition, we’d also played cricket and feasted on hoppers with the Bendigo Thomians in April, celebrated the Feast if the Transfiguration in August and the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in December. In planning our activities, we try to ensure that we have something for everybody. An association such as ours, however, is only as good as the sum of its members. We have more than 300 Old Thomians on our rolls but I am convinced that there are just as many who are not not. It is imperative that we make an effort to grow and that new members are brought in to the association.

  • In This Newsletter … the Newsletter Contains a New Section Which Aims to Cover Josephians Who Have Made Our College and Country Proud in Various Walks of Life
JOSEPHIAN NEWSLETTER JUNEFEBRUARY 2019 2019 STUDENTS FIRST. JOSEPHIANS FOREVER. OLD BOYS’ UNION ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE OLD BOYS’ UNION Note from the Editor Easter Sunday … This newsletter comes weeks after tragedy hit our resplendid island. It changed the way of life for all peace loving Sri Lankans and mainly Catholics who were the main victims both on the day of the attack and after. From taking away Sunday Communion to shutting down schools, we have had our lives changed like never seen before. Whilst many found ways to celebrate mass privately and receive communion despite the embargo on Sunday mass following Christs teach- ings, many took time to self reflect. It is during times like this we must remember our martyrs who stood firm against those who tried to take away our way of practicing our faith and by doing so preserved our catholic faith. We must pray that the same strength and guidance will be shed on all our beloved Catholics and especially the clergy to guide us spiritually at a time like this when most seems to exploit anything and everything for worldly posts and titles. Let us pray for all of Gods creation and remember those who lost their lives whilst in prayer on the 21st April, but are now resting on Gods bosom and watching over us. Farewell to Rev. Fr. Rector Travis … In the month of April (2019) Fr. Travis Gabriel bid farewell to his long and illustrious career as an educationalist and a Shepherd of Christ. From being elevated to the Rectorship of the prestigious premier catholic school St.
