TT2014 brings together 15 upcoming promising filmmakers and producers. Film experts at the forefront of cinema including SUWA Nobuhiro (Director), OH Jung-wang (Producer), Winnie LAU (World Sales) and Florian WEGHORN (Programme Manager of Berlinale Talents) will share their experiences through lectures. Each participant will have opportunity to present his/her own project. The four experts and several other local industry professionals will analyze each project from various aspects such as directing, producing and investment viability. This year’s theme is “Mission Possible: Defining filmmakers’ position”. The 21st century greeted us with the waves of globalization. The work environments in the arts have grown increasingly diversified, leaving the creators disoriented at times. For the Asian filmmakers sailing out on such tide, it may be crucial to understand one’s position first. During the week of Talents Tokyo, the participants come to identify their current positions and devise respective positioning through the interaction and networking with the Experts and their fellow Talents. The lasting networks will not only serve as a mirror but also help them thrive beyond the workshops towards a fruitful future. Talents Tokyo 2014 provides each Talent with an opportunity to discover his or her own map and compass, which today’s filmmakers in Asia should all utilize (or so the organizers believe) to catch the smallest wave in the vast ocean of the film industry. The Talents Tokyo aims to inspire promising filmmakers to develop their voices and become the “Next Masters”. For the last three years, the organizers of Talents Tokyo have run the filmmaker cultivation project “Talent Campus Tokyo”, which was previously called "Next Masters Tokyo" in 2010. This year, we have decided to start a new initiative to support alumni from these events by providing grants from (a) Project Development Fund and (b) International Promotion Fund. Today we announce the selected projects. Talents Tokyo will award a Project Development Fund grants of up to 1 million JPY (approx. 8,900 USD) or an International Promotion Fund grant of up to 500,000 JPY (approx. 4,450 USD) to the selected projects.
