Cbms in the Province of Agusan Del Sur CBMS IN THE PROVINCE OF AGUSAN DEL SUR Hon. Maria Valentina G. Plaza Provincial Governor Agusan del Sur Establishment of CBMS in Agusan del Sur The Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS) in Agusan del Sur was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 15-04. Complete CBMS databanks are now available and being accessed by key staff at Provincial level as well as in each of the Municipal Planning Offices of Agusan del Sur. Household level data are available where they are required for selection of beneficiaries. The Convergence Development Program aims to pool together local resources in order to have a focused and integrated strategy to economic and social development. Currently , 32 barangays are targetted. CBMS utilization in development programs and projects Additionally, CBMS has also been used in the determination of 267 beneficiary households of the Convergence Development Program have been identified for livelihood support based on monthly per capita income of between P3,500 to P6,500. CBMS utilization in development programs and projects The 5-year ‘F1’ Fourmula 1 Strategy (spearheaded by the Provincial Health Office, has availed of CBMS information in its planning stages. The Fourmula 1 strategy includes 4 components Financing,Regulation,Service Delivery,Governance Agusan del Sur is one of the few Provinces in the country (16 in total) to be selected for F1 and is designed to fast-track major health improvement projects. CBMS utilization in development programs and projects The Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) has made use of CBMS outputs,for barangay development planning in selected Municipalities (particularly Santa Josefa and Prosperidad) Analysis of data on Indigenous Peoples in selected areas has been conducted by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). This has been used for deliberation of a CADT (Certificate of Ancestral Domain) application. CBMS utilization in development programs and projects CBMS was a reference for a Scholarship Program designed to assist Persons With Disability. It was established through Ordinance #14-06 and CBMS data also provided a foundation for selection of beneficiaries. CBMS data has been used by Municipal Social and Welfare Development offices for enrolling 39,000 PhilHealth beneficiaries in 2009. The impact of CBMS in Agusan del Sur The province is addressing the complex and varied needs of development by undertaking many varied activities in parallel, with the aid of CBMS as a supporting information system. This means that many activities are being underpinned by evidence-based decisions. This approach recognizes that many evidence- based decisions, when added up over time will have a major impact. The future of CBMS in Agusan del Sur … Recognizing the importance of CBMS, the province has allocated some P5 million for a second implementation which will start in January 2009. Thank You! Archeological excavations in the lower Agusan valley plains have uncovered evidence of strong relationships between the region and the Southeast Asian states. A golden image of Javan-Indian design unearthed in the 1920s and molten jars uncovered in Prosperidad are indications that the region had commercial and cultural ties with the coast. The province of Agusan del Sur was created on June 17, 1967 under Republic Act N0. 4979 providing for the division of the Province of Agusan into Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. In January 1970, the first set of provincial officials assumed office after the provincial election of November, 1969. The same law provided that the capital of Agusan del Sur shall be the municipality of Prosperidad and the Government Center has been set up in Barangay Patin-ay.

    GEOSCIENCES DIVISION VULNERABILITY AND RISK ASSESSMENT One of the major contribution of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau to the Disaster Risk Reduction Management / Climate Change Adaptation initiatives of the National Government thru a new project, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) which started in year 2015. With the accomplished geohazard maps as a key input, VRA primarily aims to generate exposure maps of the population, build-up areas and lifeline infrastructures such as roads to rain-induced hazards such as flooding and landslides. It however also provides an opportunity to update the existing geohazard maps and validate those cities or municipalities in which the 10K geohazard mapping and assessment was undertaken thru outsource and thru MOA with mining companies. 10K Geohazard Maps and the hazard exposure maps generated by the VRA activity proved useful to the Local Government Unit as a vital input in their respective Contingency Planning, Preparedness and Mitigation Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction as well as their integration with the Comprehensive Land Use plan. For CY 2017, twelve (12) municipalities of Caraga Region were covered by the VRA program (Figure 1). These are: 1. Magallanes, Agusan del Norte 2. Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte 3. Sibagat, Agusan del Sur 4. Santa Josefa, Agusan del Sur 5. Tago, Surigao del Sur 6. San Miguel, Surigao del Sur 7. La Paz, Agusan del Sur 8. San Jose, Province of Dinagat islands 9. San Luis, Agusan del Sur 10. Talacogon, Agusan del Sur 11. Bunawan, Agusan del Sur 12. Rosario, Agusan del Sur Updating of 1:10,000-scale landslide and flood susceptibility geohazard maps of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur generated by SRDP Consultancy Services was done during the VRA activity.
