Timeline: • 1973 – Apollo Educa on Group, Inc. was founded in response to a gradual shi in higher educa on demographics from a student popula on dominated by youth to one in which approximately half the students are adults and over 80 percent of whom work full me. • 1976 – Dr. John G. Sperling founded University of Phoenix with the sole mission of iden fying and mee ng the educa onal needs of working adult students – University of Phoenix opened with a class of eight students. • 1989 – Apollo Educa on Group began distance learning modality by offering its educa onal programs throughout the world via University of Phoenix’s Distance and Online Educa on. • 2007 – Apollo Global, a joint venture between Apollo Educa on Group and private equity firm, The Carlyle Group, launched to broaden student opportunity, grow the knowledge base of the communi es it serves and advance the educa onal landscape worldwide. • 2008 – Apollo Global announced the acquisi on of UNIACC, a private arts and communica ons university in Chile, as well as it related en es. • 2008 – Apollo Global announced its purchase of a majority stake in ULA a private university based in Mexico City, from Carlyle Mexico Partners. • 2009 – Apollo Global announced its acquisi on of UK-based BPP Holdings Ltd. • 2012 – Apollo Global announced a joint venture with HT Media in India to launch a new post-graduate business school, Bridge School of Management. • 2013 – Apollo Global announced its acquisi on of Australia-based Open Colleges Australia. • 2014 – Apollo Global announced its acquisi ons of Milpark Educa on in South Africa and FAEL in Brazil.
