Bonney went from cowboy and gunslinger for a rancher to pure outlawry forever dodging justice in New Mexico when it wasn’t even a state. On the one hand, he was charming, fun-loving –often at social events like dances-, quite appealing to the ladies. Also con- versant in Spanish, “Billito” was popular with the Spanish speaking crowd. On the other hand, he had no compunction to coldly kill a man, a sheriff, a deputy, anyone who got in his way rustling cattle or horses for an illicit living. He also proved hard to keep in jail even when caught. It is probably his feats of derring-do escaping from jails that made him most famous and this is the main subject of this bi- ography following him until he is shot in pitch darkness by lawmen obsessed with getting rid of him. 6 x 9, 56pp., B&W hardcover, $15.99, ISBN: 9781681121345 Also available: FAMOUS PLAYERS A TREASURY OF VICTORIAN MURDER The Mysterious Death of COMPENDIUM I William Desmond Taylor Including Jack The Ripper, Beast of Chicago, HC: ISBN 978-1-56163-555-9, and Fatal Bullet. • Doctor Strange Comics As Post-Fantasy
Evolving a Genre: Doctor Strange Comics as Post-Fantasy Jessie L. Rogers Thesis submitted to the faculty of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in English Karen Swenson, Chair Nancy A. Metz Katrina M. Powell April 15, 2019 Blacksburg, Virginia Keywords: Fantasy, Comics Studies, Postmodernism, Post-Fantasy Copyright 2019, Jessie L. Rogers Evolving a Genre: Doctor Strange Comics as Post-Fantasy Jessie L. Rogers (ABSTRACT) This thesis demonstrates that Doctor Strange comics incorporate established tropes of the fantastic canon while also incorporating postmodern techniques that modernize the genre. Strange’s debut series, Strange Tales, begins this development of stylistic changes, but it still relies heavily on standard uses of the fantastic. The 2015 series, Doctor Strange, builds on the evolution of the fantastic apparent in its predecessor while evidencing an even stronger presence of the postmodern. Such use of postmodern strategies disrupts the suspension of disbelief on which popular fantasy often relies. To show this disruption and its effects, this thesis examines Strange Tales and Doctor Strange (2015) as they relate to the fantastic cornerstones of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and Rowling’s Harry Potter series. It begins by defining the genre of fantasy and the tenets of postmodernism, then it combines these definitions to explain the new genre of postmodern fantasy, or post-fantasy, which Doctor Strange comics develop. To show how these comics evolve the fantasy genre through applications of postmodernism, this thesis examines their use of otherworldliness and supernaturalism, as well as their characterization and narrative strategies, examining how these facets subvert our expectations of fantasy texts.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 2011 SUPERHEROES, MYTHICAL CREATURES, AND EVIL FORCES TAKE OVER RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART IN EXHIBITION EXPLORING THE TIBET OF COMICS FROM DECEMBER 9, 2011 – JUNE 11, 2012 THE GREEN LAMA, MICKEY MOUSE, BUDDHA AND DALAI LAMA REVEAL HOW FANTASTICAL DEPICTIONS OF TIBET HAVE SHAPED REAL WORLD PERCEPTIONS New York – When the evil Hooded One unleashes a pack of giant dinosaurs on New York City, young Peter Cannon must use his knowledge of the Tibetan secret scrolls to save the city from destruction. Orphaned as a child and raised by Tibetan lamas, Peter has gained the Tibetan cultural knowledge and spiritual wisdom he needs to defeat the evil doer, who vows revenge. Comic book storylines, such as this one from the Origin of an Avenger (1966) have drawn on the cultural and religious traditions of Tibet for more than 60 years. Mixing real knowledge with long-held myths and stereotypes, comic illustrators and writers have created a Tibet shrouded in mystery and fantasy. The Rubin Museum of Art’s upcoming Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics features more than 50 comic books from around the world and provides audiences with unprecedented access to fantastic Tibetan adventures. Characters as diverse as the Green Lama, Mickey Mouse, and Tomb Raider Lara Croft journey through Tibet, frequently gaining superpowers and strengths from ancient Tibetan teachings and legends along the way. The most complete collection of comics related to Tibet ever assembled, the exhibition includes comics from the United States, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, India and Japan–some of which have been translated into English for the first time and will be presented both in the original and translated formats.

  • JUMP WISH-LIST Rules/Notes: Settings
JUMP WISH-LIST Rules/Notes: ● This list is solely for settings that don’t have jumps made yet. ● No jumps you want to see redone, I’m not going to go down this path. If there is any such setting mentioned on list, then as soon as it is pointed out to me, I’ll remove it. ● Settings already claimed will be either removed from list or have claim noted. I’ll accept info about claims only from the jump-maker who claimed it. ● I hope to maintain this list in such way that /tg/, SB and QQ communities can all check it out. If you don’t like something on it, just ignore it. After all, if jump is being made doesn’t mean you have to use it. Furthermore, we all have different tastes, be mindful of that. ● Fanfics will be listed separately. Some people like the idea of such jumps, some don’t. I might end up removing this section altogether just because it is so difficult to decide if certain fanfic would be acceptable for being turned into jump or not. ● Settings will be listed alphabetically within a genre, by their official name. Any other names will be included after that one. Please include genre and medium with any suggestions (e.g. KultHorror - Tabletop RPG; The Culture - Science Fiction - Novel) ● Rule of thumb – recommend settings that you would want to visit in order to interact with characters and storylines, not in order to get specific perks/powers/items. Settings: 0-9 ● 100, The (SF - TV Series) ● 300 (movies) ● 3x3 Eyes (manga) ● 7th Heaven (TV series) ● 9 (movie) ● 100 Bullets (vertigo) ● 11eyes (VN/anime) ● 2 Broke Girls (TV Series)
