Report on launch of Plastic Pollution Free Tamil Nadu Awareness Campaign at District Level on 25.08.2018 Theni district The Plastic awareness procession was conducted by Theni Allinagaram Municipality and TNPCB with municipal workers and carried out plastic seizure and cleaning activities along Theni - Periyakulam Road and Theni - Madurai Road at 9.00 AM to 10.30 AM. A procession with school students of around 700 Nos. was flagged off in RC High School, Madurai Road, Theni at 4 pm by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Thiru. O. Panner Selvam in presence of the District Collector. The procession passed through Theni – Madurai Road and ended up at Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School in Theni- Periyakulam road at 4.45 P.M. The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, District Collector, Superintendent of Police and other Government officials were participated in the procession. A public awareness meeting was conducted in Vaigai Dam at 6.00 P.M. The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu presided over the function. The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu distributed plastic alternatives such as cloth bags, Bamboo Baskets to Tourists. A pledge on plastic pollution free was taken by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, District Collector and officials of Theni District and public. 1000 pamphlets about use of plastic alternatives were distributed to the public and tourists during the meeting. Plastic cleaning activity was carried out in the Vaigai Dam Park premises by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu along with officials. PROCESSION FLAGGED OFF BY THE HON’BLE DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER OF TAMILNADU AT THENI. PUBLIC AWARENESS MEETING AT VAIGAI DAM PRESIDED BY THE HON’BLE DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER OF TAMILNADU .

The cases mentioned in this Report are among those which came to notice in the course of test check of accounts of local bodies during the year 2004-05, as well as those which had come to notice in earlier years, but could not be dealt with in previous Reports on Government of Tamil Nadu. Matters relating to the period subsequent to March 2005 have also been included, wherever considered necessary. OVERVIEW This Report, dealing with the results of audit of accounts of urban local bodies contains three Performance Reviews and nine Audit Paragraphs. A synopsis of important audit findings is presented in this overview. I Accounts and Finances of Urban Local Bodies There were six municipal corporations and 151 municipalities in Tamil Nadu as on 31 March 2005. The urban population of the State as per 2001 census was 2.75 crore comprising 44 per cent of total State population.

Based on the Act, the Government in G.O. No. 340 Health and Family Welfare Department dated 19.02.1982 constituted the Tamil Nadu Prevention and Control of Water Pollution Board on 27.02.1982. The Government has declared the entire area within the State of Tamil Nadu as Air Pollution Control areas vide G.O.Ms. No.4, Environment Control Department dated 28.09.1983 under Section 19 (1) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
