I won’t give you one of those a strong cross wind. They are deep, steep sided and full of boring day by day accounts of what we did: just a few of my obstacles. Lesson 5: sometimes it’s better to land safely on reflections on returning home. top of the hill and walk down, rather than risking that last downwind glide into an unknown valley full of potential hazards (one reason I didn’t win!). I nearly pulled out before it even started. The weather forecast didn’t look at all promising and the prospect of a 4 hour drive each way; sharing a room with 3 other snoring On the last day a promising forecast translated into blokes on rubber mattresses in bunk bed accommodation; scratchy conditions with the occasional thermal allowing with no WIFI (or even 3G); and little prospect of flying did- people to get away. But if you got your timing wrong you n’t fill me with enthusiasm. But 2 days before the start I ended up in neck deep bracken at the bottom. So when a gave myself a good talking to, and concluded that I would thermal blew through it was carnage on the hill. -

This will not only have residential homes with hangars, garages and the obligatory sauna but hotels, a marina, camp site and holiday homes all to go with the state of the art aircraft maintenance facility and training school (linked to the local Applied Sciences University) and runway. Two runways, both hard and soft, if the planners approve my idea for the additional soft. The possibility of an Air Traffic Control training centre may also be on the cards. Once again my thanks to Paul Tallet and Mark at Progression Marketing for setting the front cover of this Spring issue and to Paul for supplying the image and to all those who have contributed to this Newsletter. -
AEROBATIC PARAGLIDING Season 2012 Summary
AEROBATIC PARAGLIDING Season 2012 summary During 2012 a total of 7 FAI Cat 2 competitions took place in 5 countries, with 65 participating pilots from 17 different nations. 5 were only solo competitions, 1 was only synchro, and 1 was solo & synchro. 2 solo and 2 synchro competitions counted for the Aerobatic Paragliding World Cup ranking (APWC). Event Location Date APWC Solo Synchro Nations pilots teams Vertigo Voss Voss, Bergen (NOR) 25-26.06.12 No 21 N/A 5 Acrojam Obertraun (AUT) 04-08.07.12 No 20 N/A 10 Norwegian Championship Bygland (NOR) 26-29.07.12 No 6 N/A 1 Nordic Open Are (SWE) 02-05.08.12 No 18 N/A 5 Acrobatixx Zell am See (AUT) 02-05.08.12 Solo 39 N/A 12 AcroLake Brienz (SUI) 16-19.08.12 Synchro N/A 10 6 AcroWing Tour Annecy (FRA) 30.09-02.09.12 Solo & 39 11 7 Synchro APWC – AEROBATIC PARAGLIDING WORLD CUP 2012 was the season of big changes in competition format and scoring system: the Evolution competition format - a completely new system featuring live scoring with the results displayed on a big screen and simultaneously published in the internet - was introduced with great success. This was possible thanks to dedicated software Acropyx, developed during the last 2 years. We had 3 events counting for APWC: one solo only, one synchro only and one final event with both solo and synchro. The 1st APWC event of the season was Acrobatixx in Zell am See / Austria. As usual, the event had a remarkable success of audience due to its concomitance with the Lake Fest, a very popular estival event in Zell am See, with air show and live music. -

The Dales Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club CLUB RADIO FREQUENCY 143.850Hz www.dhpc.org.uk September 2016 Looks like Winter’s on the way Yeah it’s the first of the Winter Club nights on Thursday 1st September at the Horse and Farrier, Otley. Mike Cav’s giving a talk. Skywords - September 2016 Page 1 Martin Baxter CHAIRMAN’S CHAT – September 2016 We need your help. I hope that you had a good summer with plenty of flying from Dales sites, and that you made use of the other facilities that the club has to offer – the website, safety advice, coaching, library, club nights and indeed Sky- words itself. Some of you might believe that you pay for all this in your membership fees, but the truth is that without a committee of volunteers none of it would happen. So it’s come to that time of year when I ask you to stand for a post on the committee. You are welcome to vol- unteer for any position, but the ones I am particularly worried about this time round are Treasurer and Sites Officer (North); followed by Trophies and Paragliding Competitions. Finding a Treasurer is my greatest worry, because without someone to control the finances the club will fold. Elsewhere in the issue you will find a description of the job from Tony’s perspective. Unlike some other com- mittee posts you don’t need to be a Skygod, so it could be a good job for a new member. If we can’t find some- one before the AGM then I will have to start getting quotes from professional accountants; and that will inevita- bly mean that we either eat into our precious Flying Fund or raise subscription fees. -
