  • Carbonomics the Rise of Clean Hydrogen
EQUITY RESEARCH | July 8, 2020 | 11:34PM BST Carbonomics The Rise of Clean Hydrogen Clean hydrogen has a major role to play in the path towards net zero carbon, providing de-carbonization solutions in the most challenging parts of the Carbonomics cost curve - including long-haul transport, steel, chemicals, heating and long-term power storage. Clean hydrogen cost competitiveness is also closely linked to cost deflation and large scale developments in renewable power and carbon capture (two key technologies to produce it), creating three symbiotic pillars of de-carbonization. Clean hydrogen is gaining strong political and business momentum, emerging as a major component in governments' net zero plans such as the European Green Deal. This is why we believe that the hydrogen value chain deserves serious focus after three false starts in the past 50 years. Hydrogen is very versatile, both in its production and consumption: it is light, storable, has high energy content per unit mass and can be readily produced at an industrial scale. The key challenge comes from the fact that hydrogen (in its ambient form as a gas) is the lightest element and so has a low energy density per unit of volume, making long-distance transportation and storage complex and costly. In this report we analyze the clean hydrogen company ecosystem, the cost competitiveness of green and blue hydrogen in key applications and its key role in Carbonomics: the green engine of economic recovery. Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order.

  • Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Dear Saab-Friends! Christmas and the new year 2018 is just a few days away! The year that passed will mostly be remembered for the ”Saab Car Museum Festival” in June, arranged by the Saab Car Museum together with the Saab Turbo Club of Sweden, Club Sonett Sweden and Svenska Saabklubben. This fantastic weekend we saw a great increase of members int the Support Organization. According to Peter Bäckström there where between 15.000 – 20.000 visitors over the weekend. A new Record. We Launched the new book by Gunnar Johansson about the cars during the Gunnar Ljungström era, from Saab 92 to Saab 900. The book sold very well and there is a small number of signed books left. Maybe a wonderful Christmas gift ? Check it out on the Saab Car Museum Webshop. Gunnar Larsson´s book about Gunnar Ljungström and his collegues is planned to be ready during 2018. We also presented the first ”Carlsson on the roof Stipendium” to Björn and Mikael Mohlin for the exceptional achivement of lifting racing with 2-stroke Saab to new and higher levels. This fall the outspoken Saab Director Sten Wennlo passed away, 92 years old. He was the Leader of the Saab Passenger car division during it's Peak time, 1976 – 1987 and saved the life of Saab by introducing not only the Saab 99 Combi Coupé (Hatchback) but also against the owner's will putting the Turbo into production. A Great Man... In the late summer we started up a Facebook account: Saab Car Museum Support Organization, to this day we have 316 followers and growing, we hope most of these (many are already) will be members of our Support Organisation.

  • Introducing the GS Net Zero Carbon Models and Sector Frameworks
June 23, 2021 | 9:50PM BST Carbonomics Introducing the GS net zero carbon models and sector frameworks We present our modeling of the paths to net zero carbon, with two global models of de-carbonization by sector and technology, leveraging our Carbonomics cost curve. We present a scenario consistent with the Paris Agreement’s goal to keep global warming well below 2°C (GS <2.0°), and a more aspirational path, aiming for global net zero by 2050, consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5°C (GS 1.5°). We expect a cumulative US$56 tn of green infrastructure investments to net zero, reaching >2% of GDP by 2032 in the GS 1.5° scenario. Renewable power is at the heart of the energy transformation, supporting the abatement of c.50% of global CO2 emissions, leading global power demand to triple by 2050. However, a broader ecosystem of technologies will be needed: we estimate that the hydrogen market could increase 7-fold by 2050, to >500 Mtpa, while carbon capture grows from c.40 MtCO2 currently to >7,000 MtCO2 pa, and carbon offsets (mostly natural sinks, but also Direct Air Carbon Capture) contribute c.15% of de-carbonization for the harder-to-abate sectors. Both scenarios imply peak oil demand by 2025, but we still see the need for new oil mega-project start-ups until 2030 or 2035 on GS 1.5° and GS <2.0°, because of decline rates. Gas demand peaks in 2030 in the GS 1.5° scenario, but has a critical role as a transition fuel in the GS <2.0° path, with growing demand until 2037.

  • Saabism and Saabists: a Digital Ethnographic Analysis of Saab Culture
Paper Saabism and Saabists A digital ethnographic analysis of Saab culture by Ico Maly© (Tilburg University) [email protected] August 2017 This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/ Saabism and Saabists A digital ethnographic analysis of Saab culture Abstract: Both Simmel and Goffman were deeply persuaded that the big things in society, in actual observable reality are made up of a dynamic and complex system of interlocking and interacting small things. In this paper, I wish to examine the online-offline communicative and semiotic practices of one such “less conspicuous” social group: the Saabists. Based on long term digital ethnographic research I will provide a description and analysis of how Saabists discursively and semiotically construct identity on-and offline in a transnational niche. Saabists, I will argue, are a translocal and polycentric micro-population sharing a ‘culture’ – Saab culture or Saabism - and an ‘identity’. I clearly argue in favor of a materialistic approach to identity and group formation. The reasons therefore are evident: Identity should not only be understood in a certain chronotope, but is also embedded in ‘infrastructure’, what Arnaut, Karrebaek and Spotti (2016) call Poiesis-infrastructures. Keywords: Micro-population, culture, (digital) ethnography, Saab and Saabism.
