Thinking of you, wherever you are. We pray for our sorrows to end, and hope that our hearts will blend. Now I will step forward to realize this wish. And who knows: Starting a new journey may not be so hard or maybe it has already begun. There are many worlds, but they share the same sky one sky, one destiny. In times gone by there was a single world, a single sky, and all who lived there did so in the Light of Kingdom Hearts. Darkness, however, fell upon those peaceful times as people came to desire control over Kingdom Hearts. The ᵼBlade was formed to protect it, and Keyblades were made in its image by those who sought to take Kingdom Hearts by force. What followed was known as the Keyblade War, and ended with the ᵼBlade shattered, the world split into fragments cut off from one another, and Kingdom Hearts lost, seemingly forever. In the time since, most have forgotten that there are other worlds out there but their own, and only a scant few have had the power to travel between them. One of these beings, Xehanort, has performed uncountable dark deeds in his efforts to claim Kingdom Hearts, including the creation of the Heartless and, inadvertently, the Nobodies. Now these Heartless have discovered how to travel between worlds, and infiltrate the Keyholes guarding each world’s Heart.

Fall 2014 ConCert SerieS NIGEL HORNE, MUSIC DIRECTOR LAURA STAYMAN, CONCERT LEADER Saturday, December 13 - Herndon, VA Saturday, December 20 - Rockville, MD [Classical Music. Play On!] WMGSO.org | @WMGSO | fb/MetroGSO about the WMGSo The WMGSO is a community orchestra and choir whose mis- sion is to share and celebrate video game music with as wide an audience as possible, primarily by putting on affordable, accessi- ble concerts in the area. Game music weaves a complex, melodic thread through the traditions, values, and mythos of an entire culture, and yet it largely escapes recognition in professional circles. Game music has powerful meaning to millions of people. In it, we find deep emotion and basic truths about life. We find ourselves — and we find new ways of thinking about and expressing ourselves. We find meaning that transcends the medium itself and stays with us for life. WMGSO showcases this emerging genre and highlights its artistry. Incorporated in December 2012, WMGSO grew from the spirit of the GSO at the University of Maryland. About a dozen members showed up at WMGSO’s inaugural rehearsal. Since then, the group has grown to more than 60 musicians. The WMGSO’s debut at Rockville High School in June attracted an audience of more than 500. Also in June, the IRS accepted WMGSO’s appli- cation to become a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, opening even more opportunities for the orchestra to grow. adMiniStration Music Director, Nigel Horne Chorusmaster, Jacob Coppage-Gross President, Ayla Hurley Vice President, Joseph Wang Secretary, Laura Stayman Treasurer, Chris Apple Public Relations, Robert Garner Webmaster, Jason Troiano Event Coordinator, Diana Taylor Assistant Treasurer, Patricia Lucast supporters From securing rehearsal space and equipment rentals, to print- ing concert programs and obtaining music licenses, we rely on the support of our members and donors.

Jamolin, Choral Director Bryan Doyle, Assistant Conductor About the GSO In the fall of 2005, student violist Michelle Eng sought to create an orchestral group that played video game music. With a half-dozen others from the University of Maryland Repertoire Orchestra, she founded GSO to achieve that dream. By the time of the ensemble’s first public performance in spring 2006, its size had quadrupled. Today GSO provides a musical and social outlet to 120 members. It is the world’s first collegiate ensemble to draw its repertoire exclusively from the soundtracks of video games. The ensemble is entirely student run, which includes conducting and musical arranging. In February of 2012 the GSO collaborated with Video Games Live!, for the performances at the Strathmore in Bethesda, Md. The National Philharmonic per- formed the GSO’s arrangement of “Korobeiniki” from Tetris to two sold-out houses. In May of 2012 the GSO was invited to perform as part of the Smithsonian’s The Art of Video Games exhibit. Aside from its concerts, GSO also holds the “Deathmatch for Charity” (renamed the “Gamer Olympics” this year) video game tournament every spring. All proceeds benefit Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. • The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents: Beethoven at 250
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents: Beethoven at 250 January 22 and 23, 2020 Dear Fellow Educators, Ludwig van Beethoven lived a life driven by an unquenchable need to make music. On this, the 250th anniver- sary of his birth, the Dallas Symphony celebrates his legacy: music that still delights, challenges, and moves us. Consumed by a towering genius, he lived a life that was complex, inspired, unique, and difficult. But even when he was young, it was clear that he would leave a lasting impact. At the age of 17, Beethoven made his first trip to Vienna, the city that would become his home. There, he was quickly immersed in the life of Europe’s cultural capital, and played the piano for none other than Mozart. Mozart’s prediction: “You will make a big noise in the world.” At the dawn of the 19th century, the world was changing. The French Revolution had rocked Europe, Napoleon was rising to power, and every aspect of human life seemed to shift. It was an age of change in ideas, the arts, science, and the structure of society itself. Musically, Beethoven led the charge into a new century by replacing established Classical ideals with a wave of Romanticism, valuing imagination and emotion over intellect and reason. Music has never been the same since, and his many musical innovations paved the way for countless composers after him. Some of his string quartets, in fact, prompted one man to remark, “Surely you do not consider these works to be music?” Beethoven replied, “Oh, they are not for you, but for a later age.” He was right.

  • Chapter One: Getting Started
Chapter One: Getting Started Welcome to the world of Ivalice! Where a fantastick and magickal adventure awaits those foolhardy and brave enough to seek it out! What awaits you as you venture into this marvelous world? Who will you be? Perhaps a hardy Bangaa warrior, who cuts down swaths of enemies with his giant sword? Mayhap you will be a Viera hunter, whose arrow flies true and far? Or possibly a Hume mage, with access to powerful and ancient Magicks that makes your foes quiver in fear. Where will you go? Will you scour the land's furthest marches, east and west, seeking the blade of legend? Will you venture to the highest peaks and lowest caverns, hunting the ultimate mark? Will your clan take part in a fierce war, protecting the land they know and love from the forces of evil? Ivalice is a world of infinite possibility and intrigue. Your hero can be anything and anyone, but the true question is, can your hero be legendary? Playing the Game If you are familiar with Dungeons & Dragons™ or any similar variant there-of, then getting into Ivalice Alliance Tabletop (IAT) should be a fairly straightforward and easy affair, as it borrows heavily from the rules and play style provided there. Likewise, if you are familiar with Final Fantasy™, then getting into IAT should also be an easy and straightforward affair. If you are familiar with both series, then this game is practically a dream-come-true. In order to play IAT, at least at the stage it is in now, it is a good idea to first be at least somewhat familiar with the D20 system of play, as in, you know what a D20 is and how it's used in a game like Dungeons & Dragons™.
