The First T-34 Birth of a Legend : The T-34 Model 1940 Sold out! Vergriffen! The Soviet T-34 medium tank was undoubtedly the most important tank design of World War 2. In retrospect, one can go as far as to say “it Sold out! was the tank that won the war”. On the other hand, it was not an easy birth of a legend, as its revolutionary new tank design was not widely Vergriffen! embraced when it was first proposed. This publication describes, in hitherto unseen detail and research, the birth of the legendary T-34 through its first series production Model 1940. It starts with the path that led to the first prototypes, covers the many details of its production models and, finally, follows it into action during those so decisive first five months of the Great Patriotic War, today most commonly known by the German name for the invasion, Operation Barbarossa (22 June 1941 to 05 December 1941). During this campaign, both the T-34 and KV tank came as a complete surprise to the advancing German Wehrmacht, and on many encounters the two new Soviet tanks designs slowed down the German momentum, eventually to an extent that the objective of Moscow could not be taken before winter arrived. Over the past decade, the author devoted himself to the many technical details of T-34-76 models, indeed closely looking at each and every “nut and bolt” and is now able to provide the first ever in-depth research on the development, technology and combat history of the T-34 Model 1940, the first version of a legendary tank family. On 216 pages this publication is illustrated with 330 black&white photographs (the bulk of which hitherto unpublished), 110 graphics, 23 colour plates, 6 five-perspective technical drawings in 1/35 scale and 4 maps. TANKOGRAD CATALOGUEONLINE CATALOGUE 2008-2 ONLINE 2019-V WWW.TANKOGRADWWW.TANKOGRAD.COM .COM Panzerkampfwagen T 34 - 747 (r) The Soviet T-34 Tank as Beutepanzer and Panzerattrappe in German Wehrmacht Service 1941-45 Beutepanzers, captured foreign tank designs in service with the Wehrmacht, played a much more influential role in German Panzer deployment and tactics than previously thought. While the bulk of Beute tanks were relegated to hinterland policing and anti-partisan duties, it was the hundreds of Soviet-built T-34s in German hands that were supporting Panzers in the medium tank and tank destroyer roles in combat everywhere along the frontlines in the East. For the first time, this book sheds comprehensive light on the German Panzerkampfwagen T 34 – 747 (r), and underlines this detailed research with hundreds of photographs of the German T 34 in action. Unlike other publications so far released on the topic of Beutepanzers, this monograph focuses on the hardware rather than on the organisational paperwork of unit designations, readiness reports and unit deployment histories. It is consequently highly pictorial, showing tanks in service, their Soviet technology and production batches, as well as their German modifications and markings and it looks at the life of their crews. Furthermore, it outlines the T-34’s development in the Soviet Union based on the most recent discoveries. As it is crucial to understanding the astonishing extent to which the T 34 was used in German service, and what an immense and important impact it had, the background of the German Beute principle is highlighted in an extended introduction. Another major chapter in this book is devoted to T 34 Panzerattrappen dummy tanks that, to a hitherto unknown degree, were most influential in tactical anti-tank training and tactical doctrine for the Wehrmacht. The extent to which these T 34 dummies were used strongly underscores the thundering impact this Soviet medium tank had on the German side. The Panzerattrappen require a similarly extensive introduction in this book. Dating back to Kaiser and Reichswehr days, it allows readers to fully understand why ‘wooden T 34s’ played such a decisive role in German land warfare training. 328 Seiten mit 552 größtenteils bisher unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen! Dieser Titel ist nur in Englischer Sprache In 328 pages, this book is illustrated with 552 black and white photographs, the bulk of lieferbar which have hitherto gone unpublished. While there have been several publications covering this vehicle over the decades, this present book is different as it offers a fresh look and a unique approach: For the first time, a large amount of high-quality wartime photographs were available for the detailed research of production batches and individual components. This has allowed the first-ever, reliable production batch identifier to be published. In addition, the photos displayed are mostly unpublished and come from private photo albums of soldiers that drove in and worked with the Kübelwagen on a daily basis, rather than being well-known propaganda shots. This book starts where other publications end, with the moment the first Kübelwagen was delivered to the Wehrmacht in mid-1940, and it takes the reader through the war years and to all frontlines. ° Kübelwagen - History ° Kübelsitzwagen - The Predecessors of the Kübelwagen ° Kübelwagen - Production Batch Identifier ° Kübelwagen - Close-Up ° Wehrmacht Kübelwagen of the Afrika Korps ° Wehrmacht Kübelwagen on the Eastern Front ° Wehrmacht Kübelwagen on the Southern Front ° Wehrmacht Kübelwagen on the Western Front and in the German Reich ° Kübelwagen in Luftwaffe Service In 256 pages this book is illustrated with 475 black and white photographs, 16 graphics and illustrations, 33 colour ° Kübelwagen of the Kriegsmarine, Waffen-SS, Polizei photographs and 12 colour profiles. TANKOGRAD CATALOGUEONLINE CATALOGUE 2008-2 ONLINE 2019-V WWW.TANKOGRADWWW.TANKOGRAD.COM .COM German Panzers and Allied Armour in Yugoslavia in World War Two German Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, Polizei and Italian Army, Soviet Army, British Army, Local Fighting Groups When the Yugoslavia theatre of operations in 1941-45 is mentioned, the first description that comes to mind is Bandenkampf (anti-Partisan warfare). And truly, more than any other theatre, fighting in the Balkans was among the most irregular and bloody of the whole of World War Two. This publication aims to close a vital gap in documentation of this campaign by providing the first comprehensive account of armoured vehicles and their respective units deployed there. Combat in Yugoslavia also meant an exceptionally large number of combatants were involved. There was the German Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, German Police, Italian Army, Soviet Army, British Army and, last but not least, various local ethnic groups fighting on one side or the other. All these were equipped with the most amazing and astonishing assembly of armoured vehicles of any theatre of operations in World War Two. Vehicles ranged from early German Panzers, German Beutepanzers captured in previous campaigns in France and Russia, uniquely outdated Italian tanks and tankettes, to the most modern Soviet and American equipment deployed later in the war. And as if that were not enough, this colourful gathering is furthermore enhanced by improvised armoured vehicles and armoured trains. This book is a truly unique and outstanding compilation of armoured military vehicle rarities, curiosities and oddities!
