If you do not have an appointment made yet for EYE (Early Years Evaluation), please contact the school at 902-368-6400. There is a registration fee for kindergarten supplies of $40 which can also be made at your appointment time. Easter Seals Tour The Tim Horton Easter Seals Ambassador’s Tour is upon us once again. This year ambassador is Cameron Gordon. Cameron is a grade 10 student at Colonel Gray High School. The Tour will be at Spring Park School on Wednesday, April 19 at 11:20 am. The school will be doing a few fundraisers for the Easter Seals. Students are asked to bring a Loonie to participate in these special days. Tuesday, April 11 Crazy Hat Day Thursday, April 13 Pajama (PJ) Day Music Notes The Spring Park Rock band will perform on April 22 at the Murphy Community Centre along with other school rock bands. The concert begins at 5:00. Everyone is welcome. Festival Choirs have all begun rehearsals with the following schedule: Day 1 Part 1 Choir (Grades 4-6 plus 3z) @ Lunch Recess 11:30-12:00 Day 3 Grade 3 Choir @ Lunch Recess (12:00) Day 4 Grade One Choir @ Lunch Recess (12:00) Day 5 Part 2 Choir (Grades 4-6) @ Lunch Recess 11:30-12:00 Grade Two Choir @ Lunch Recess (12:00) School Counsellor’s Note Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22, 2017. Various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Art Expression Nineteen grade 5 and 6 students took part in a noon time Art Group with Ms. Fanning on every Day 4. The students really enjoyed the experience. An art exhibit was held at the end of March. A new group of eighteen grade 5 and 6 students are presently involved in an Art Doodling session noon time on Day 4 as well. A group of thirteen grade 2 students have just begun an Arts and Crafts activity at noon time on Day 2. Chess Club News Our two Chess Teams will be participating in the Provincial Team Chess Challenge on Sunday April 9th. The members of the Grades 3-4 Chess Team are: 1. Tobin Murphy-Wicks 2. Campbell Burrows 3. Alex Murphy-Wicks 4. Théo Plourde The members of the Grades 5-6 Chess Team are: 1. Alex Rogers 2. Saul Grant 3. Alex Forbes 4. Lucas Mac Kenzie We would like to wish good luck to all our players. The last day for the Chess Club will be Friday April 21st. We will have our SPS School Championship in May. The top players will be invited to play. PEI Summer Chess Camp will be held from July 10-14th in North Rustico. If you would like further information please contact me at [email protected]. Public Schools Branch Drama Festival Spring Park will be represented at the upcoming Drama Festival on April 18, 2017 at the Florence Simmons Performance Centre at Holland College. Class 4C presents “HEROES” Class 4D presents “PAPER BAG PRINCESS ALTERNATIVE FACTS” Everyone is welcome to come out and support our inspiring young actors! If anyone has any ping pong balls at home they would like to donate to the PE department, it would be greatly appreciated! Criminal Background Check If you are planning to chaperone a year end trip, or volunteer in the school, you should get your criminal background check done sooner than later. There were a huge number of requests for the Charlottetown City Police and RCMP late in the school year, and they are looking to avoid that again this year. The letter to be turned into the City Police can be obtained from the school office. This letter should waive the cost to have your criminal check done. Spring Park Home and School The next Home and School meeting will be Tuesday, April 18 at 6:30 pm in the school library. Home and School Update - April 2017 1. Award submission deadlines School Crossing Guard of the YearAward: This award recognizes a school crossing guard on Prince Edward Island for their service in keeping our walking students safe. Nominations deadline: April 28, 2017. School Bus Driver of the Year Award: This award recognizes school bus drivers on Prince Edward Island for their service in keeping our students safe as they travel to and from school each day. Home and School 2017 AGM &Convention, April 8th There is still time to register your school’s delegates for the PEI Home and School Annual Meeting and Convention coming up on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, Charlottetown. All members are – any parent, teacher, principal, school staff, and District Advisory Council reps- students /parents. Each Association is asked to designate five of your attendees as your voting delegates. A Resolution calling for a universal provincial school lunch program was successfully passed at the HSF Annual General Meeting in April 2015 and the PEIHSF continues to lead in the development of a provincial school food strategy and to work with other agencies to attain that goal. To assist in fulfilling this goal, PEIHSF contracted Tracy Michael of Nourished Kitchen, Dietician Consulting to compile an Environmental Scan of School Food in PEI and a School Food Fact Sheet. http://peihsf.ca/content/universal-provincial-school-food-program-advocacy-summary Spring Park Chapter for Candian Parents for French PEI The Spring Park Chapter for Canadian Parents for French PEI has been busy planning some great events for you and your children. Below, you will see the date and time for the events so please mark your calendars. If you can attend the upcoming Spring Park Sock Hop, RSVP here: https://goo.gl/forms/ZtnJrHFgyR0mOJ052 (click link to be redirected). Also, on this form you can indicate if you can volunteer! On Thursday, April 13, there will be a Spring Park Sock Hop in the multipurpose room (the playlist will be in both French and English). From 6–7 pm the dance will be open for Kindergarten to Grade 3, and from 7–8 pm the dance will be open for Grades 4 to 6. The admission fee is $2 at the door. There will be a canteen, with items such as water, juice, chips, and chocolate, each retailing for $0.50 apiece! All proceeds going to the Spring Park Home & School Association and the Spring Park CPF Chapter. On Thursday, May 18, there will be the Mother’s Day Café! Come be served, café-style by your kids! The menu will be in both French and English. The menu will include cupcakes and fruit. From 6–6:45 pm, the café will be open to Kindergarten to Grade 3, and from 7–7:45 pm, the café will be open to Grades 4 to 6. Admission to this event is by donation. There will be a Photo Booth available! Moms, aunts, grandmothers, cousins, sisters, etc. are welcome to attend. All proceeds going to the Spring Park Home & School and the Spring Park CPF Chapter. We are also planning a Father’s Day Bingo in June, so stay tuned for more information! Hope to see you there! Box 265 Charlottetown, PE C1A 7K4 Hillsborough River Monitoring Report Executive Summary The Hillsborough River in Central Prince Edward Island was designated to the Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS) in 1997. This report highlights the achievements of the Hillsborough River Association and its many partners in the conservation and interpretation of the stipulated natural, cultural heritage, and recreation values on the river since designation from July 2007 to January 2017. The Hillsborough River Prince Edward Island Monitoring Report 2007-2017 provides a progress report on each of the objectives identified in Charting a Course: A Management Plan for the Hillsborough River and identifies the achievements of its people and those who have contributed to research, conservation, and documentation of the Hillsborough′s history. A list of the individuals and organizations who contributed to these achievements since designation is included. The Hillsborough River Association is a not-for-profit registered charity led by a volunteer board of directors. During the past ten years, it has had one part time watershed coordinator assisted by a small group of part time employees funded through the PEI Watershed Management Fund and a grant and employment application processes.
