10 FORMULA FORUM, Issue 4, FEBRUARY 1, 2018 International News

The race in Thailand on 17-19 November 2017 was a resounding success. Every event we have held has been bigger and better than the International last and this was no exception. News from Jeff Zaltman As I mentioned above in the Promotions Chair column in this issue, we have achieved an unprecedented level of media coverage and live audience this time. The full TV show is currently being broadcast around the world in over 120 countries. You can now view it online on the Air

© 2017 Joanne Murray Race 1 YouTube channel.

We also welcomed two new partners to the Air Race 1 world: Sports & Events Logistics (SEL) www.sel.it, which is our new trusted logistics partner that did a great job of getting our precious cargo there and back in a timely and professional manner. And 51 Aero, www.51aero.com, which provided a very interesting tracking systems and data analysis to help with both judging and with teams’ race performance. I encourage the IF1 membership to contact both of those organizations for help with either moving airplanes around or tracking them when they’re moving! (Ask me for their contact details and I’ll introduce you.)

I want to thank all of the volunteers that came out to Thailand that put in long hours in an unfamiliar environment to ensure the event would run smoothly. The IF1 members and friendly volunteers and the race teams and their crews went all out to help showcase our sport to new audiences. They all did a smashing job of representing our organization and promoting formula one air racing.

On the future racing front, we are having constructive conversations with dozens of potential race venues around the world. All efforts are focused on converting one or more of those negotiations into confirmed World Cup venues for 2018 and beyond. This is a complex process that never moves as fast as we hope, but it is moving along very well. We hope to announce something within a couple of months. The Board is also working with pilots on planning new strategies to set up more North American races. So expect much from the future!

Air Race 1 is working hard to develop a good model for the growth of the sport with IF1. Together we are looking at a long-term sustainable strategy to take our sport into the mainstream. It is a long journey and one that needs everyone’s participation. But it is also an exciting and fun journey. We’ll see you all along the way! © 2017 Lloyd Horgan © 2017 Lloyd Horgan 11 FORMULA FORUM, Issue 4, FEBRUARY 1, 2018 Air Race 1 World Cup Race Results 2017 Silver Race Results Sunday, November 19, 2017
