News from the Council Council President’s Corner During the process of writing our Mission Site Profile (MSP), which as you recall was quite a lengthy process, there was something that Kristin Nielsen from the synod office asked us to think about during our research that still sticks in my mind. She asked: “What would the neighborhood and community MISS if Living Faith were no longer here?” That was actually a pretty easy question for us to answer. Of course, there was the Food Pantry, Community Meal, Neighborhood Halloween and Easter Parties, Neighborhood Camp, National Night Out and the AIM Now Childcare Program. That being said….just think about all the ministries at Living Faith that sup- port and make a difference in the lives of our congregation! Thank you for making all those ministries possible as you generously give of your time, talents & re- sources! Wishing you blessings each & every day, Vicki

Living Faith Financial Picture - May 2019 Avg. Weekly Attendance: 159 Through the end of May, unrestricted Total Year to Date Income: $213,882.06 member giving is running close to the Total Year to Date Expense : $218,795.84 prior year (98.3% of 2018). Over and above that, in May we received a generous $5,000 Memorial gift from the Byra Family, so the Memorial/ Bequest income is significantly ahead of last year. The East Campus projector/video system replacement has been completed at a total cost of $9,365.75. This was accomplished with $5,000 from Reserve Funds approved at the February Congrega- tional meeting, a $3,400 gift from a member and the remaining balance from the maintenance budget. There is an overall shortfall as of May 31st, due to the extraordinary year to date maintenance and repair expenses. May is also the first of two months in the year with three payrolls instead of two. It should also be noted that Synod benevolence which is a significant commitment is paid through May, which has been a difficulty to accomplish in past years.

Hospitality Ministry Team (aka The Welcome Wagon) We would like to “revive” our Hospitality Ministry Team which you may remember from the past. A great way to use your creative talents and let our visitors and new members know that we are happy and blessed with their presence! Please contact Vicki Siefert at 262-634-4154 to hear more about it and thanks!

Cradle Roll Ministry - Special thanks to Sandy Wiedemann who has volun- teered to keep in touch with the families of our newly baptized children by send- ing small gifts during their child’s growing up. Please check out the list of opportunities on page 14 for ways you can volunteer. Thanks in advance!

Member Care Needs You! - It could be just a little visit, maybe a ride to an appointment, running an errand or picking up groceries, or even providing a meal or special treat! It’s all about caring for our Living Faith family in their time of need while recovering from an illness or surgery or perhaps the loss of a loved one. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this very special ministry and give Alma Vacek a call today at 262-681-1738 or sign up on the long yellow sheet in the Weekly Journey.

June AIM (All in Mission) Presentation The AIM offering in June came to $413.79, which was approved by the council to be designated in support of the ELCA Neighborhood Camp program. Camp is in full swing and if you happen to be in the building when in session, no doubt you’ll notice there is a lot of action going on! The June Noisy Offering of $260.38 was designated for “Hope Away from Home,” a ministry that dedicates their time and resources to providing a safe and loving environment and living facilities for those with mental illness. The “Fix It Campaign & Fundraiser” continues with a current grand total of $7,520.13 raised as of July 2nd! Yahoo and thank you! Re-keying the building has been approved by the council with careful considera- tion being taken of who needs keys and to what particular spaces; several plumbing issues have been completed, and the lower level hallways, classrooms and Food Pantry floors have been stripped and waxed. No other major projects have been approved thus far, but lots of small projects have been taken care of. You can be assured that we will keep in touch and let you know what the future plans are as the funds come in. Thank you for your generous donations to the AIM and Noisy Offerings and the Fix It Campaign. Together Living Faith is reaching out and making a differ- ence in the community, the neighborhood and our con- gregation!

Outreach/Volunteer Opportunities

Opportunity to Share Your Time and Talents! Do you have a musical talent you would like to share at the 9am service on the 1st or 3rd Sundays? Please call the office at 262-637-5671 and we can give you the details. Thanks! Living Faith Tech Team Here is your chance to use your technical skills and knowledge! We need people to help operate the screen for announcements, etc. Training will be provided at your convenience. We are also looking for someone who likes to do PowerPoint presentations and could put our announcements on a USB flash drive to be used by the Tech Teams at both campuses. Please contact Vicki Siefert 262-634-4154 to learn more about this opportunity. FaithWorks Food Pantry While every donation is greatly appreciated, monetary donations go further than food donations. Checks can be made out to “FaithWorks Food Pantry”; you will still get credit on your contributions statement. That said, all food donations are wel- comed. Volunteers are needed to staff the pantry during operating hours (Tuesdays 1:00-3:00pm and Thursdays 6:00-8:00pm.) Volunteers are also needed to package produce and bakery on Tuesdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the Food Pantry. Please sign up on the long yellow sheet in the weekly bulletin, or talk to Margaret Robinson or June Klingbeil if you are interested.

It’s Time to Gather Items for Lutheran World Relief School Kits A School Kit contains the following items: • 4 70-sheet notebooks (no loose-leaf paper) * • 1 ruler with centimeters and inches * • 1 pencil sharpener * • 1 blunt scissors * • 5 unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers • 5 black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink) • 1 box of 16 or 24 crayons • 1 2½” eraser • 1 sturdy drawstring backpack-style bag about 14” x 17” * *These are the items we need the most “To the children who receive School Kits, these supplies mean the difference between getting an educa- tion or not. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than many families can afford. And when parents can only afford to send one of their children to school, girls rarely get priority…yet the education level of mothers has the biggest impact on development.” (Quoted from the Lutheran World Relief website.) You can bring any of the needed items on Sunday and leave them in the marked box in the narthex. OR, you can also sponsor a School Kit for $12, and we will purchase the needed items. Questions? Contact Karin Langlois: 262-672-0672. Thank you for your support of people in crisis around the world!!

Neighborhood Camp Neighborhood Camp 2019! We are excited to share that Neighborhood camp has been in action since Monday June 17th. We have 45 campers aged 6-11 years old and 7 interns. We have themes every week and campers participate in theme related enrichment projects. Campers also spend time reading to earn free books from the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Journal Program. Our first week theme was CSI and Detective work. Campers went on a scavenger hunt, studied their own fingerprints, and completed “The Candy Conundrum”. Mad Science Milwaukee came to visit campers on Thursday and set up a “Detective” workshop in Fellowship Hall. Campers had to use clues and their detec- tive skills to figure out who stole the chocolate cookie recipe! Our second week theme was Mad Science. Campers participated in numerous fun- filled science projects such as: color changing milk, walking water, balancing nails and screaming balloons. Mad Science Milwau- kee came back for a second time and provided a workshop named “Junior Reactors”. Campers learned to recognize chemical reactions and created a tiny world of their own atoms with their very own set of Atomic Coins ™! Our upcoming themes are: • Week 3- Grand Ole Flag and Independence Day: No field trip, no camp July 4th • Week 4- Wild Animals: Field trip- Safari Lake Geneva • Week 5- Space and Moon Landing: Field trip- Milwaukee Public Museum/Imax (50- year anniversary of moon landing) We look forward to continuing our fun filled days at Living Faith’s Neighborhood camp. We also would ap- preciate any donations for camp. We are looking for donations of found items such as paper towel/ toilet paper rolls, plastic containers for our wild animal sculptures! Also, paper cups for campers to use while at park or on field trips. Thank you. Maribel Madrid & Susan Appleton

Help is Still Needed in the Neighborhood Camp Kitchen! Hi! Neighborhood Camp continues through July 18th, and I’m looking for some people to help me. I’m very focused on feeding the children nutritious meals, and we cook most of our main dishes from scratch. I’m also working on plans to make a few things in advance, like baking healthy (AND tasty) muffins for a few of our breakfasts and making meatballs that will meet child nutrition standards (and still taste good.) So, I need help with breakfast from 8:00 – 9:00, making sandwiches on field trip days from 7:45 – 9:00, preparing lunch from 8:45 – 11:00, and setting up and serving lunch from 11:00 – 1:00. The advance prep- aration I mentioned above will probably be scheduled as needed during afternoon hours. I’m very appre- ciative of and flexible with anyone wanting to help. (For example, just because lunch prep is from 8:45 – 11:00 doesn’t mean you would have to stay the whole time.) Please contact me on my cell, 672-0635, to let me know you can help or if you have any questions. THANK YOU! Karin Langlois

Graduation parties are still happening, so there’s still time to use Scrip to get a gift for that special graduate and help our church continue its ministries. Whether you’re buying them a new computer (like we did for our son), getting them something fun, or stocking up on supplies for a college dorm room, there are Scrip cards for over 100 retailers available. To get your Scrip at the East Campus, see Dick Langlois at the Scrip table before the 9:00 service or at cof- fee hour. You can also pick up an order form in the narthex and call Karin at 672-0635 or email her at cin- [email protected] to order your Scrip. If you attend the West Campus, June Klingbeil will be out for a bit, so please call Karin for your Scrip. Please note: The weekly order deadline is Monday afternoon. SCRIP ordered by then can be picked up by Thursday evening, if you need it before the weekend, or on Sunday at church.

Keep ‘em Coming! We’ll continue collection Box Tops for Education for Knapp School all Summer! Thank you to everyone who has been collecting and bringing in the Box Tops for Educa- tion symbols. Please keep bringing them in – Knapp appreciates our efforts. Just reuse an envelope or baggie and put them in the offering plate, bring them to the church office, or give them to Karin Langlois. 12 | The Journey A publication of Living Faith Lutheran Church

Fundraising Made Simple Did you know that when you shop at GFS and you mention Living Faith, we receive a percentage of some of the purchases you make? If you dine at Texas Roadhouse on Sundays and turn in a copy of the bulletin, they will donate 10 percent of your food purchases to Living Faith. A great opportunity to use those Texas Roadhouse Scrip Cards you have purchased from Dick Langlois at the East Campus in the narthex or June Klingbeil at the West Campus. Thanks for supporting our fundrais- ing efforts!
