Tee Keat denies he will join DAP The Malaysian Insider January 15 , 2012 By Yow Hong Chieh KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — Former MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has dismissed rumours that he intends to leave MCA for opposition party DAP. The Pandan MP told Bernama Online he had met with opposition leaders recently but denied holding any talks with them about joining Pakatan Rakyat (PR). “Previously, they said I will join PKR. After that was proven to be not true, they said I will join the DAP on January 20. What next, PAS?” the state news agency quoted him as saying today. Online news portals claimed last October that Ong (picture) had met with opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Selangor DAP chief Teresa Kok separately, possibly to discuss his defection to PR. The Pandan MP, however, denied the reports. In a interview published by an English-language daily last week, Ong vowed to defend his seat — where he remains popular with voters — even if he is dropped as a candidate by MCA. The Star today reported MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek as saying he Ong would have to submit a request to the party and Barisan Nasional (BN) if the latter wished to contest in the next general election. Ong’s denial today comes after two MCA grassroots leaders closely linked to him — Penang MCA Youth chief Eng Hiap Boon and Johor MCA’s Taman Desa Skudai Flats deputy chairman James Wu Chee Heng — quit the party. Tee Keat says never specified BN platform The Malaysian Insider March 17, 2012 By Yow Hong Chieh KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has clarified that while he planned to contest in Pandan again in the next general election, it remains to be seen if it will be on a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket. The former MCA president pointed out it would be up to BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak to decide if he could contest under the ruling coalition’s banner in the polls, which must be called by April next year. “What I remarked was I would continue to serve my constituents till the end of my... present term on the BN platform,” he said in a short statement today. “I uphold the principle that since I was elected on a BN ticket in 2008, it would be grossly irresponsible for me not to serve my entire tenure on the same platform... despite the ordeals I have experienced in my political career.” Ong also stressed that the platform he would contest on was secondary to his commitment and loyalty to the people, especially the Pandan electorate. The Malay Mail reported yesterday that the popular Pandan MP had said he had no plans to leave BN and would contest under the ruling coalition as the welfare of his constituents was a key concern. In Pandan, Najib’s look-alike part of MCA’s charm offensive Malaysian Insider April 25,2013 By Syed Jaymal Zahiid PANDAN, April 25 – They thought it was the prime minister and at first glance, the man in the blue BN shirt did bear a striking resemblance to Datuk Seri Najib Razak. But the younger man – also shorter and with jet-black hair – was not the prime minister but his son Mohd Nazifuddin. He was helping to give the MCA candidate for Pandan, Gary Lim, a boost by charming voters with his friendly manner. Ironically, MCA is now the underdog despite being undefeated ever since Pandan became a proper Federal constituency after a re-delineation three terms ago. It was apparent that the senior BN component party was hoping to capitalise on Najib’s popularity – albeit through his son – to reverse the downward trend in Chinese support. “From their response I can see they are sincere, full of joy and this feeling is not only in Teratai, but also in the whole of Malaysia. “The confidence towards BN is increasing,” Nazifuddin told reporters at a restaurant after his walkabout in the Chinese commercial area here. Teratai is one of the three state seats located within Pandan where the MCA will face a four-cornered fight against the DAP and two other independents. One of the independents is incumbent Jenice Lee who was sacked from the DAP for contesting. The crowded race at state level gives a minor glimpse into the volatility of the Pandan seat race. At Federal level, the division is said to be worse.

Pandan MCA denies Tee Keat dropped, says GE13 pick still open Malaysian Insider February 22, 2013 By Clara Chooi KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 ― The majority of Pandan MCA’s committee members came out today to refute their party president’s claim that Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has been excluded from the Election 2013 contest, insisting the division has not decided on its choice candidate yet. The leaders revealed that the division has not even met a single time to discuss candidate options, much less decided on Gary Lim, its legal bureau chief, to stand in the coming polls, despite Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s announcement on Wednesday night. A group of 14 Pandan MCA committee members, excluding chairman Datuk Eric Ong Chen Huing and vice-chairmen Wong Choy and Foo Ah Soon, held an emergency meeting today to clarify the division’s position on the matter. “Our meeting today is to clarify media reports claiming that Gary Lim is MCA and BN’s (Barisan Nasional) candidate, as suggested by Pandan MCA. “We would like to explain here that Pandan MCA has never met to discuss who should represent MCA and BN for Pandan,” the division’s Youth chief Chong Sin Woon told a press conference after the meeting. Chong, who was also rumoured as among those who may be selected to contest Pandan, was flanked by his fellow party leaders, including Pandan MCA division deputy chairman Tan Chuang Yong, vice-chairman Tan Tong Giaw, Wanita chief Leong Siew Kam, secretary Chan Chee Peng, vice-secretary Datuk Terrence Chua Cheng Huat, treasurer Datuk Leow Kum Wah, vice-treasurer Chang Kam Ming, organising secretary Chung Mun Hing, vice organising secretary Lee Fook Seng, and committee members Chong Chee Yeon, Lee Kim Loong, Lee Cheing Fong and Wong Chee Kheong.

Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi telah mengambil inisiatif memperkenalkan program yang dikenali sebagai Program Mentor: 1 IPTA 1 Menteri bagi memenuhi hasrat itu. Program ini menetapkan agar setiap IPTA dieperuntukkan sekurang- kurangnya satu Menteri yang akan bertindak sebagai Mentor atau keluarga angkat kepada IPTA berkenaan.
