Summer Lunch Program | 18 yrs & under “When School is Out, Lunch is Still In” Starting this summer, The Summer Food Service Program will be sponsored by North Thurston Public Schools in partnership with the USDA. Meals are free to all participants less than 19 years of age. There is no registration process or paperwork, just come to any of the school sites listed during meal service times. Meet some of City of Lacey’s Fire Heroes and their awesome vehicles, and get messy putting out a ‘fire’. A change of clothes and towel are recommended as we expect a fabulously fun mess! This camp will immerse students in the expansive world of MinecraftEDU and will challenge student’s ingenuity and problem solving skills as they navigate through several engineering challenges. Students will learn how to use teamwork and manage resources like an engineer in the real world. Building in MinecraftEDU allows students to experiment with designs and materials, all without the risks associated with building structures in reality.

Let’s Make a TV Show | 8 – 11 yrs Have fun exploring the dynamic and unpredictable nature of television production. Learn to use equipment in a high-tech TV studio complete with green screen and robotic cameras. Be in front of the camera as a show host, on-air personality, or news anchor or work behind the scenes as a camera-person or audio technician. Students will produce a TV show that will air on TCMedia Channel 77 and on YouTube!

Youth Fisheries Academy Camp | 11 – 15 yrs Are you interested in fishing, hiking, camping and other outdoor recreation activities? Have you ever wondered how to take your love for the outdoors and make a career out of it? Get ready to get your hands dirty because the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is teaming up with the Lacey Stream Team and Lacey Parks & Recreation to offer the fun and educational Youth Fisheries Academy Day Camp. Activities include fisheries technology, radio telemetry hide and seek, fish dissection (optional), stream sampling and more! Dress for the weather; bring a sack lunch, snacks, and water bottle.

Hike: Reflection Lake | 12 – 17 yrs​​ On this hike, you will enjoy one of the most iconic views of Mt. Rainier in the National Park. This is a moderate 2.75 mile hike with 850 feet of elevation gain, but it’s all worth it. By the end of your hike you will have been rewarded with colorful blooms, enchanting animal life, and scenic, awe-inspiring beauty of mountain peaks and alpine lakes. Bring a day pack, sack lunch, snacks, plenty of water and money for a snack on the trip back.

Horseback Riding,Cle Elum | 12 – 17 yrs Join us on this unforgettable trail ride through the Teanaway Valley. After saddling your own horse, mount up in a large outdoor arena and begin with a lesson on basic horsemanship and safety. Once you feel comfortable, the Flying Horseshoe Ranch wranglers will guide you through the breathtaking pine forest and meadows that cover the hills behind the ranch. All levels of riding ability are accommodated, as the horses are gentle and used to the trail. The fee includes transportation and horse rental. For safety of horse and rider, maximum weight restriction is 240 lbs. Jeans and sturdy boots required, with a large assortment of boots available to borrow. Helmets are also required and provided. We will cool off in the pool at the ranch after the ride so bring your swimsuit, water bottle, and picnic lunch!

Join Lacey, Tumwater and Olympia Parks and Recreation Departments for an experience you will not forget. Held at Camp Cascades on spectacular Elbow Lake, this adventure is packed full of thrilling outdoor activities that include: swimming, hiking, canoeing, team games, competitions, sports, campfire stories, crafts, skits, songs, and more! Campers and staff are housed together in the Lakeside Lodge. Prepare yourself for a camp experience that you won’t want to end. Transportation, meals, equipment, lodging, and snacks are all included. Space is limited for this popular camp so register now!

Hike: Teneriffe Falls | 18 yrs – adult We’ll get a workout on this loop trail to the spectacular Teneriffe Falls (formerly Kamikaze Falls). This time of the year, the trail should be snow-free and the waterfall flowing at full volume. The first mile follows a gently inclining old roadbed followed by an easy trail until arriving at the start of the trail to the falls. The next mile will remain mellow, gaining only 375 feet. But if you’re looking for a workout, don’t worry, you’ll still get it. Over the last 0.9 miles, you’ll gain 850 feet. As we near the end of the trail, we’ll get a view of the lower part of Teneriffe Falls and a great spot to stop for lunch. We’ll then continue up the last couple switchbacks to a viewpoint for the upper falls. The final destination is three miles from the trailhead and at 2370 feet in elevation. The trail consists of loose rock in places, so sturdy shoes or boots are a must. Round trip is 7.2 miles with an elevation gain of 1,585 ft. Hike: Packwood Lake | 18 yrs – adult Bordering on the Goat Rocks Wilderness, this large mountain lake offers a picturesque view of the 7,487 ft. Johnson Peak. Although the round trip is 9 miles, the up and down trail gains only 500 ft. as it passes through beautiful forests to the lake. Difficulty rating: Easy/Moderate.

Hike: Quinault River-Pony Bridge-Enchanted Valley to Fire Creek | 18 yrs – adult Leaving from the Graves Creek campground, the route to Pony Bridge crosses a total of three wooden bridges, each growing in beauty the further you trek into the Quinault Wilderness. As you venture further down the trail, the roar of the Quinault soon returns and the river comes into view. Within feet, Pony Bridge becomes visible, as does the impressive and wild box canyon that it spans. From here, the path leads to an exposed ledge, giving a fantastic view of the river and the bridge from a few hundred feet upstream. From here we will continue on to Fire Creek. From there we’ll continue upwards to First and Second Burroughs Mountain with stunning views all around. Then we’ll loop back on a trail overlooking the Emmons Glacier and the headwaters of the White River. Passing an abandoned campground, we’ll work our way back to Sunrise. Your young ballplayer and the whole family can enjoy excitement and fun at the ballpark this summer as part of the Little Lacey Baseball League! Whether it’s the happy moment of crossing the plate after a home run, or the joy of making new friends, your child will have a great experience. This program emphasizes skill-building and teamwork for girls and boys under the guidance of volunteer coaches. Our league motto is “All Adults Working for the Benefit of All the Children” and our recreation staff provides support to ensure a positive atmosphere during league activities.
