Go pink to say no to bullying The Upper Hunter Youth Council is hosting a Pink Shirt Day on Tuesday, 13 March 2018 to bring awareness to bullying in schools, workplaces and generally life. Approximately one in four year 4 to year 9 Australian students report being bullied every few weeks, or more often during the last term of school. That means that 27% of students in those school years may not be enjoying their school life and that number is too high. The Youth Council is encouraging schools and local businesses to support this great cause. Donations to local charity, Where there’s a Will, will be collected at Upper Hunter Shire Council Administration Offi ces in Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone to raise funds to continue the promotion of prevention through education for strong mental health and wellbeing for the young people of the Upper Hunter. A new structure in the carpark of Council’s Administration Centre in Scone will soon have solar panels, reducing the building’s energy costs. Around 300 square metres of solar panels will soon be providing free electricity to help power Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Scone Administration Centre. The 60 Kilowatt solar PV system is predicted to supply over one third of the power the building requires. The successful tender for the project is Smart Commercial Solar. The company plans to make this a showpiece for future car park solar projects across the Hunter. Solar panels will also be installed at the Early Learning Centre in Scone. Gummun Place Hostel in Merriwa already has solar panels, reducing the building’s energy costs. Celebrating International Women’s Day International Women’s Day (IWD) 2018 will be celebrated with lunches in Merriwa and Scone and a dinner in Murrurundi on Thursday 8 March. Everyone is welcome to attend. The special guest at the White Hart Hotel in Murrurundi is Janie Jordan, a former journalist turned professional communicator, who is recognised globally for work in crisis management and authored a best-selling book on the topic. In Merriwa the speakers will be Sue Duggan, award-winning Hostel Supervisor at Gummun Place Aged Care and Dr Noman Jawaad who will speak on the topic of women’s heart health. • Top Pick Friday 9 March 8.30Pm
1 Top Pick Friday 9 March 8.30pm Harrow Dr. Daniel Harrow is a brilliant, maverick Forensic Pathologist at the Queensland Institute of Forensic Medicine (QIFM). But he’s quitting – the job is getting too much for him and he desperately wants to reconnect with his estranged daughter Fern. He makes Fern a bold promise to leave with her on his yacht Bettie and sail all the way to Bora Bora. However before they weigh anchor, Harrow must deal with one more case. Bruce Reimers is a grieving father whose daughter Olivia’s death was ruled a suicide by Harrow’s colleague, the thorough but unfeeling Fairley. Despite Olivia’s history of mental illness and evidence that Olivia overdosed on medication, Bruce is convinced the overdose was forced. Harrow sets about re-examining Olivia’s corpse and gathering information. While quizzing Detective Sergeant Bryan Nichols, who led the initial investigation, he meets new Scenes of Crime Officer Soroya Dass, a witty, beautiful woman with whom he feels an immediate spark. Harrow continues his off-book investigation and with Simon’s help, he examines Olivia’s body one last time where they find new evidence. But just when Harrow thinks all is well and he can sail to Bora Bora with Fern, a new case lands on his desk. Bones have been discovered in a cocoon of concrete pulled from the Brisbane river. Who do the bones belong to? And who put them there? CAST: Ioan Gruffudd, Robyn Malcolm, Mirrah Foulkes. #HarrowABC Short synopsis Brilliant forensic pathologist Doctor Daniel Harrow investigates the apparent suicide of a young woman whose grieving father suspects she was murdered.
