Cats, Monos and Gennekers, I guess we could call it a blow out. Not too bad in the morning and decisions were being made regarding adjustments for strong wind, 2 up not one up and is it going to get too windy.

The result was the Gennekers were keen to get out there and

Duncan managed a few capsizes, Vince stayed upright, Mike Wiley took out a new crew and was towed home after being stuck somewhere up river.

Millsy and Graeme Hams took some time deliberating until they finally decided to risk it and returned very quickly. Another new boat had a short christening. Immogen had a capsizing time and at the RSL club was caught in a circling wind and had to drift out of the shadow to capsize and sail home.

The cat crew changes and additions were sorted and watched the trailers from the shore and the visitor with the A class manage to get himself stranded on the rocks with no life jackets and no boots. Some people!! Club members eventually rescued them with the rubber duck.

Phil and Dave headed out on Phil’s boat to have a try and performed

3 wild nose dives and a crazy jibe before returning to the shore with a determined decision to cancel the race. Good move as it was quite crazy. Tony did manage to have a bit of a sail without any sign of dramatic moves. He declared that his boat was really quite stable.

Transitional Sailing Maurice and Graeme Turner are trying to run the intermediate training program but they need a licenced rescue boat driver to assist on Sunday mornings. Can anyone help out?? It is the only way we will continue to encourage sailing among the younger generation. Sadly we do not have any Learn to Sail training as it is not yet possible with willing helpers. Some one on one training might be happening and if you are willing to take on a learner on Sunday morning on your boat or use a club boat to help them out then please offer your services.

Repairing Club Boats - anyone like to help out?

Tony hard at work angle-grinding the old dolly wheel of our Club . A new jib is on the way. "Power of Ten" will be back in the water real soon :

Lesson:

Don't tow your boat with the expensive carbon mast bottom-section still upright!!!!! Ok, many told me this would happen. but I must have needed to find out for myself :-) And yes, the mast was taller than the supermarket car park shade sail supports....

Upcoming Regattas

22nd and 23rd October – Single Hander/ Regatta – HARWOOD

5th and 6th November – Bridge to Breakers – Harwood

11th, 12th 13th November – Sailing at Masters Games

This coming weekend (22/23 Oct) is our next scheduled Saturday Mobbs Bay Sleep-over Party, and Sunday Race.

There's a fresh Southerly predicted for Saturday night, and Sunday. Also, cool conditions predicted, with possible showers. This isn't ideal, but I'm sleeping over in Bella, at this stage. Julie is out of town - so Greg Spencer, and Amanda, will race on Bella, with me, on Sunday.

Graeme Fleming is planning to race his Hartley 16 on Sunday.

Frostie, and Paul Morris, have been representing the sleep-aboarders admirably, in Castle 650 "Heartbeat", at the Club Regatta, and recent races. I think that they won the long race on the Saturday of the Regatta. On Sunday, the block for their halyard jammed, while the kite was 2/3 up!!! Wouldn't go up, or down!! This worked reasonably well downwind, but Paul and Frostie definitely skipped a few 'Heartbeats" on the windward legs.

Attached pic, is of "Heartbeat", heading in to shore, with a Spider 550, in the shallows

Rod sailed his RL 24, I think, on the pea-souper Regatta Saturday Sorry, Rod, I haven't seen the full results . Bella did the arvo race, only, on the Regatta Sunday. We had a bit of a mess of a race, and pulled the plug early, so as not to delay the Regatta Presentations.

The next races when Bella will be sailing are: Harwood (maybe) 20 Nov 4 Dec 18 Dec (Nick Peate Memorial)

See you on the river Pierce
