Yesterday rain and lightning suspended the second game of the series with no score in the bottom of the first, and then in Monday’s resumption of the contest Jacksonville won by a 9-5 score. Jacksonville right-handed relief pitcher Jose Pena (2-3) earned the win, while BayBears right-handed relief pitcher Samil De Los Santos (1-1) took the loss. Jacksonville left-handed relief pitcher Miguel Del Pozo worked the final two innings in scoreless fashion to earn the save. The BayBears broke through with the game’s first run in the bottom of the fourth, when Unroe reached on a fielder’s choice to score Zach Gibbons from third to put the lead at 1- 0. Jacksonville quickly responded in the top of the fifth with Brian Schales hitting a two-run homer to left to grow the lead to 2-1. With two outs, Monte Harrison added to the fifth inning advantage with his RBI single to put the lead at 3-1. Jacksonville tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth when a run scored as Eric Jagielo hit into a double play, then an RBI single by Justin Twine grew the lead to 5-1. Mobile responded with a four-run bottom of the sixth. First against Poteet, Gibbons hit an RBI double to cut Jacksonville’s lead to 5-2. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jack Kruger hit a three-run triple to center field to tie the game at 5-5. Jacksonville quickly went back in front in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Chris Diaz to go back ahead 6-5. The Jumbo Shrimp added two more runs in the top of the eighth, with Twine contributing his second RBI single of the game, and then a Rodrigo Vigil sacrifice fly put the score at 8-5. The Shrimp scored in a fifth straight inning at the plate in the ninth when Jagielo added a sacrifice fly of his own to put the score at 9-5, which would be the final. Cody Poteet had a no decision pitching in his 24th birthday, as he took over to begin the resumption in the bottom of the first and worked four and two-thirds innings where he allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts. The Jumbo Shrimp earned a series win by winning the night cap 5-0 in seven innings behind a complete game shutout effort by right-handed starting pitcher Robert Dugger (3-5). Dugger, the Marlins No. 24 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, worked all seven innings in scoreless fashion where he allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out four as he earns the first shutout victory of his career, and his second career complete game. Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Jeremy Beasley (2-3) took the loss, working four and a third innings where he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jacksonville struck quickly in the top of the first, with Monte Harrison hitting an RBI double to put the score at 1-0 before a Brian Schales RBI groundout to third gave the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-0 lead. Schales also added a run in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to put the lead at 3-0 Jumbo Shrimp. Twine continued his hot hitting in the fifth to grow the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single. Blue Crabs Sign A Quartet of Outfielders Including MLB Veteran Posted by TBN(Staff) On 04/08/2021 WALDORF, Md. – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced the signing of four outfielders on Thursday afternoon, Braxton Lee, Dario Pizzano, Jordan Scott, and Will Decker. Braxton Lee joins the Blue Crabs as the team’s first MLB veteran position player on the 2021 roster. The Mississippi native made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2018 after proving to be not only a reliable bat, but also a Sportcenter Top 10 defender. At Ole Miss, Lee led the Rebels to their first College World Series appearance in 47 years. In 2014, the left-handed hitter was selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. Lee had a breakout season in Double-A in 2017, which led to a mid-season trade to the Miami Marlins in exchange for Adeiny Hechavarria. He ended the 2017 season as the Double-A Southern League leader in batting average and hits. Dario Pizzano was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. After two years at Columbia University, Pizzano played eight seasons and over 700 games in affiliated baseball, reaching as high as Triple-A. Pizzano led the Appalachian League in batting average (.356) in 2012 and was named a Post Season All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star. After beginning the 2019 season with the New York Mets Double-A affiliate, Pizzano made the move to independent baseball, joining the former Blue Crabs foe, the Somerset Patriots.
