Poet Dr. Keith Armstrong will perform this atmospheric narrative poem describing the state of South Shields in 1852 written by former Shields Gazette editor William Brockie (1811-1890), along with a short selection of other poetry by Brockie. South Shields born Eileen O'Shaughnessy was married to the writer George Orwell, (real name Eric Blair) this documentary looks at the influence she had on Orwell's writings, 'Homage to Catalonia' 'Animal Farm' and his most controversial novel '1984'. Sadly Eileen’s life was cut short and she died in 1945. Featuring interviews with the couple’s son, Richard Blair and more in this fascinating film which was filmed in South Shields, , Teeside, Oxford, Warwickshire, London and Barcelona. 3

Running Time 25 minutes. ‘South Tyneside at War’ This film looks at the impact of the Second World War on our area: from the bombing of Jarrow’s Prince’s Street and the Market Square South Shields, to our sea defences and the HMS Kelly which still has strong links with South Tyneside. A film by Gary Wilkinson and Tom Kelly. Running Time 45 minutes. ‘Lizards’ Along with Trow and Marsden, Lizard was the name of an ancient boundary near Whitburn. Lizards is a documentary which looks at the area from the Cleadon Hills down to the stunning scenery of the Marsden and Whitburn coast, part of which was an industrial area but is now returned to nature, and is used by ramblers, dog walkers, birdwatchers, horseriders and golfers, who in the film talk about spending their leisure time in this part of South Tyneside.
