Kevin Bennett Deputy Director, Objective 1 Programme What is Objective 1? ¾ A multi-faceted regeneration programme running 2000-2006 ¾ Utilises resources from EU Structural Funds, matching it with funds from UK public and private sector ¾ EU Structural Funds are provided for investment in regions with under-performing economies ¾ Objective 1 is the highest level of support and is given to regions with GDP lower than 75% of the EU average ¾ In 1999, South qualified - one of only 4 such regions in the UK ¾ Partnership at heart of decision making, involving many people from outside National/Regional Government The Programme strategy built around the common vision developed by partners:
